Struggling with the Ortega Oaks to Rancho Carrillo via Bear Canyon and Verdugo Trail on July 4th.

This was really tough, and even a little dangerous at the end.
The hike took 7.5 hours to complete (it was supposed to take 6) as I was delayed by overgrown sections of the trail, and then ran out of water with 3 miles to go (I took 3 liters/34oz with me).
The temps were climbing, the flies were REALLY annoying, and I was starting to experience all the early signs of a heat stroke.
Thankfully, The Candy Store was open and the owners let me sit by their AC and supplied watermelon slices and water until I started to feel better. If you're ever in the area, please visit their store. They sell freshly baked goods and camping supplies, and they even have a small British section of confectionary!
If you're interested in taking this trail, take plenty of water and wear protective clothing.
