My son has a good grasp on what is going on in the world he is 15 , and has decided he does not want to go to collage. He is really good at self teaching so I have faith he will be successful in what ever he chooses to do . All I care about is he's healthy happy ,and has solid life skills and also follows the good lord!

I am always blessed by your videos! Whenever I get distracted with all the things I “should be doing” for school with my elementary age son, I come back to your blog & videos to remind me of the things that are important. Helps me also not be wasteful by spending money on unnecessary things!
I think we've all been trained to think that we can solve our problems by spending money, something I have fallen for too many times to mention :P
@@MomDelights That is so true, I'm dealing with that now, the packaged curriculum looks so pretty and takes the work out of it yet it also removes the personal touch, I mean some of them actually have direct dialog that you read to them telling you how to speak to your kids, that runs me insane and I don't wanna go that route again!

Ok I was laughing at the filth bucket comment 🤣 I grew up with my brother and dad and I can tell you cleanliness was not exemplified well. It is so hard to have to learn all of those skills on my own. I don’t want my kids to not know how to do their laundry, clean up after dinner, create a comforting space for themselves and others, etc.

How did your year go? I'm homeschool high school for the first time starting in July as we school year round. I feel the pressure from peers, socially, and ect to go back to what public school does even though that's exactly why we chose to homeschool in the first place. To break away from a system that didn't work for me or my husband. I feel this push inside to just read great books for his high school years and talk about them. He still isn't should what he wants to do in life beside work and have a family. But I'm just concerned about all the writing essays incase he does want or need to go to college at some point. I really could care less about the science lab stuff. Oh btw we're in Texas so technically we chose our own graduation requirements, but if your college bound then most go by what a college wants them to have. That route just isn't bringing much peace or joy to even think about much less put my son through. Thanks for you help!

I have kids of all ages and currently love love pathway readers. We do lots of daily reading from pathway readers and copywork from mcguffeys or pathway. Overall we use Robinson Curriculum and approach writing and language arts as suggested on this channel. I supplement with writing skills programs when they ate ready to start writing paragraphs and essays and do an overall of different writing styles. I've built a collection of writing and English resources as needed. I love the gentle approach to 3Rs
@@LampWaters the Pathway readers are very sweet for early readers, but I have found the upper readers not to be as quality as the McG's
I think it’s awesome you mentioned the Robinson curriculum. What do you think about the Robinson curriculum? We will be doing it soon. (Also adding CM principles )
I think the basic ideas of the Robinson curriculum are genius and really work. I am not a purist, however, and have taken these ideas and tweaked them to fit our family and our ideals. Have you heard of Karen Rodriguez (Our House)? Her videos are terrific.
@@MomDelights yes I have. I am considering of getting and I always tweak things. I love the self teaching methodology. I am purchasing the book the 3 Rs to get started. We have always used Masterbooks curriculum but I am tired of feelings the pressures of finishing school books and feeling trapped in them. So that’s why I have been watching your videos and Karen’s. Y’all are both a breath of fresh air for as a mom with 5 kids. ❤️

@@samanthagraveswalters8443 Robinson style is wonderful and Karen has great thoughts on implementation. Love her to! I find Robinson is a man, who lost his wife...thus had to have it work a certain way. In most of our circumstances we are women whom want to add the maternal gentle side to it, but keep the bones of the program while adding a little gravy. Reading aloud periods or poetry time once a month, or adding the fun things on rainy days for art. I love the vocabulary program as it allows you to see your children's abilities a little clearer.
@@berrypatch5583 can you explain how you use Robinson curriculum? I have 5 kids 4 boys 1 girl. Ages 10-2. My girl is in the middle and is 5. . I want to combine Sherrys version of CM with RC :)

This is is helpful. I'm really struggling to figure out next school year. I have 5 boys. My oldest will be in 10th and as I see the years with him at home dwindling away, I want to do things differently with him. some colleges offer free courses that dont give your college credit but i bet you can use them for highschoo credit. hillsdale and mit i think does. duke university has some free novel studies

I appreciate your educational style and have learned a lot over the last few week as I’ve been subscribed. Gentle grammar is a hit with my middles!
We do Robinson style, except we only do one hour of math not two, one hour of reading in the morning plus more for high school in the afternoon, and either an English lesson or a writing assignment. Our afternoon reading period is content areas and this has worked so well for us. I read aloud to littles and middles during the time. The rest of time is real life.

@@berrypatch5583 can you explain what you mean by 'content areas'? It's probably obvious but I'm not getting it. Lol my youngest is 9th-ish. She's interested in nursing. She's currently working at a 6th grade level Math. It's very difficult for her. I'm so torn what method over all to do. I want simple. I bought RC. We're not using it. I also like the Charlotte Mason method.
Great video. Suggestions for a 15 year old that has always struggled with learning?
Can I ask, if you are the teacher and they have a problem learning, couldn't that be a learning style issue?? How does one know someone has a learning issue?? I think of learning like a language and we all speak different languages?? Being in school we learn one type of learning style, memory basically. So how does one determine it's the child and not the method??
We have a son that is on the autistic spectrum, although he is very affectionate and in many ways super intelligent. He wasn't yet reading at the age of 15, but soon after learned to read and then proceeded to work through most of our library at home. He has a host of different issues, such as not being able to handle the input of things like church, not having a great grasp of numbers and money, etc., yet he can talk for hours about things such as history and quantum theory. He is growing and maturing, just at a slower rate than what others would consider "normal." But we are patient and allowing him to go at his own pace. He may end up being the most successful out of all of our children. I think it is a point of faith where we deal with character issues, but then let God work in a person's life and give them the support and encouragement they need to be as successful as they can without allowing outside expectations to shape what that may look like.
I have a child (now 28 year old adult) who is on the spectrum. He learned differently than other kids. We started homeschooling him after 3rd grade. We kept trying different methods and curriculums until we found what worked for him. Living books and a hands on, delight directed approach was what worked mostly for him. We took things slow and repeated concepts often if needed. He didn't fluently read until he was about 11 years old even though he was in a very good private school until age 9 and we tried so many methods including a year of tutoring at a private learning center (didn't help at all). We did a lot of hands on learning and read alouds all through his schooling. We followed his interests. We worked on life skills. We taught him about his Lord and savior. We did the basics. We did do science and history but we didn't dive really deep into those subjects. We did what we felt would serve him well in life. His biggest struggle was reading when he was young then once he could read, he read VERY slowly. His other difficulty was memory. He could remember facts about classic trucks but could not memorize other facts. Math was very hard for him. We didn't require him to go past basic math and finances/economics. We focused on his strengths. He was very mechanically minded, loved classic trucks and could solve problems by thinking outside the box. Some of his high school classes were Auto Mechanics (1, 2, and 3), Employment and Computer Skills, Construction and Carpentry, Home and Life Management Skills (he had to learn to cook, do laundry, care for our home, etc.), and more along with all of the core subjects. He learned many of these skills with his dad, grandpa, friends and a couple of uncles. He was almost 20 when he graduated from high school (our homeschool). He has always wanted to be a truck driver and he's pursuing that dream right now. He lived on our property and started working at 19 (odd jobs long before that). He bought his own home by the time he was 22 or 23 years old. I felt like it got easier when we let go of trying to put him in that box that he just didn't fit into also, once we let go of our expectations and just focused on what he needed. It didn't matter that it didn't fit what all of the other high schoolers were doing. Once we were able to do this, he thrived. It was still a lot of work, but it was SOOO worth it. He's a solid man of God now who is pursuing his dream job AND getting married this summer to a precious girl who thinks the world of him (it's mutual). I hope this gives you hope. Sherry is awesome and she has such great ideas!!!! I'm sure you'll get MANY more ideas by following her!!
@@ASmith-jn7kf he has been homeschooled his entire life. We’ve tried multiple methods. He’s a great reader but no comprehension.
@@MomDelights thanks for your reply. I’ve considered having him tested, but just never have. He’s a great reader, but almost no comprehension. Forget the 8 parts of speech. Nouns and verbs are it for him. He’s got basic math skills. He is anywhere from about a fourth grade to sixth grade level in general. He doesn’t understand common sense type things and takes everything literal and I mean everything and that can be quite funny at times. He has great difficulty speaking to people even his siblings. So, I just don’t know. ❤️

Our most succesful family member had a 6th grade education. He is now a millionaire with two successful business and real estate investments. My grandma raised 14 children successfully with a 4th grade education. My family ranges from little to college educated. The GEDs in our family make just as much as the graduates from state universities. I would say it took the college educated much longer to gain financial stability.
Absolutely! It takes a while to gain momentum for those without college education, but there is no debt (slavery) afterwards, either :)
