For new seasons, the first episodes will be released on TH-cam will the remaining coming out exclusively on the Watcher platform.

Peace out.
I think your site is broken
Goodbye then 😔

I cant explain it but this video feels like when your rich corporate boss gives you a pizza party instead of a raise
It’s a pizza party but everyone has to chip in for the pizza 🤪
this is such an apt comparison LMAOO
And then fires you
LMAO
A pizza party where they tell everyone they're fired because the company's going in a new direction (the CEO is probably staying and getting a pay raise in the process)
Y’all remember when the best parts of buzzfeed unsolved was the black screens with nothing but text… Yeah, production quality isn’t why we watched
I have to agree.
old shane would hate shane now
*wheeze*
@@mirahbkvtsit’s like how Kirk would beat the shit out of William Shatner, old Shane would throttle New Shane with his bare hands

Rest in peace Shane Madej you would've hated Shane Madej
I can’t believe his wife responded saying the fans were in the wrong 😭
I used to respect these guys so much.
So, the merch website wasn't making enough with $80 hoodies, $40 tees, and $45/$125 "mystery boxes"? The 13k+ subscribers on your ACTIVE Patreon, with a minimum of $5/month donations (and higher tiers of $10/month, $25/month, and $100/month)? The monetization of your TH-cam (2.85 million subs), Instagram (489k followers), and Twitter (248k followers) accounts? The ongoing, sold-out tour shows? The podcast profits? NONE of that was enough? Instead, you felt obligated, for the sake of production quality, to add another streaming service that you want your audience to juggle? Solely for "exclusive" content?
Your apology video doesn't break these costs down, either. You need to be FULLY transparent if you want even a sliver of your fans to consider subscribing to something like this.
you forgot about the sponsorships...
That's so much worse than I thought lol I'm not too familiar with these guys, and I was like why don't they try something like Patreon first?
They rent a whole building in Los Angeles, have to pay their 20 aprox people on their stuff, have to pay them healthcare insurance, have to pay flight tickets for their crew and them when filming outside LA, have to pay a pre-production agency, post production agency, have to pay for some locations permits to film, filming gear, food for those travels and these last things are for one video only...... I've never heard of these guys before but some people in their community can't understand the huge quantity of money their videos cost. However I still think they made bad moves on a this and they should have partner with an existing platform.
@@MarianaHiddentheir content is not that great to be needing 20 people behind the scene to be honest :/
@@MarianaHiddenthey clearly need to down size if all of this isn’t working in the first place TH-cam people are used to free content you can’t just move the same content to a paid subscription service and expect it to go over well

So to recap: you overhired, leased an egregiously and needlessly large studio space in one of the most expensive cities in the world and have exhausted all other means of monetization as a result. Basically you pulled a Buzzfeed. Ponderous.
Yeah what was up with that? I always wondered why they hired so many people?!
Don’t slander Buzzfeed name like that 😉 Buzzfeed was still free 😂 they’re greedier than Buzzfeed (which is impressive).
one person who knows what they're doing after leaving BF I can think of is Safiya Nygaard, she was one of the first to leave BF, she's also making travel and food content, her videos have good production quality, she doesn't have 25 people on staff, pays attention to what her audience wants and not pulling this kind of bs
@@j.yang7 I was thinking of Safiya too! She makes loads of travel videos that obviously cost a lot and she even brings a small crew with her. We get less content but it’s insanely good and well budgeted.

Relatable. I didn’t eat the day this video came out. I make sure my animal’s are fed before me and because of one minor unforeseen expense, that’s how things had to be. After buying their cat food, I had 37 cents in my account until I got paid the next day. Talk about living paycheck to paycheck, lol 😅🥴. Too many people can relate to this, unfortunately.
I used my car change to eat for a couple days I totally get it. They failed us
25 EMPLOYEES?! You have less than 3M subscribers, what on earth are you thinking?!
That’s your problem right there. It’s not a YT problem, or an advertiser problem, it’s a YOU problem. Do better.

A few knee-jerk reaction points: 1 - It sounds like there are significant internal problems if your company is struggling to pay staff an equitable wage. That should not be taken out on viewers, you can't seriously expect people to foot the bill for your brand's financial problems or mismanagement. 2 - I make less than $16/hour and half my wage is spent on a 1-bedroom apartment in a small city with very few amenities. 3 - I financially support loved ones who are disabled, or who are lost to depression, or have car repairs they can't afford, and I'm still not asking someone who likes listening to me to cover any of that shit. We aren’t doing that for free, we are already committing our hard-earned dollars to support this channel, and this is a slap in the face.
And for those viewers who aren’t on Patreon, we aren’t ASKING them to pay thousands of dollars on top-notch graphics and elaborate sets. Many of us started watching back then they were on Buzzfeed, with a modest little set, a couple of chairs, and creepy mannequin in the corner. We were fine with it, we watched Ryan and Shane for them, not their production quality. In all the years I’ve been subscribed, I’ve never seen anyone complain “but why don’t you have more fancy graphics???”
So pining their troubles on financial issues, honestly that’s a Them Issue. They started their business, they need to figure out how to manage their budget. Whether that is laying off employees (admittedly a tough call) or cutting episodes, or trimming a series or two, or just slashing the budget on effects, they need to hire a Financial Advisor to help them manage their money better, that is for THEM to figure out, and frankly it is just inconsiderate to put that financial burden on their audience, especially when we have done so much to support them already.
And let’s not forget, if you are Subscribed, Liking their Videos, or even just adding to their View Count, you ARE supporting them. You are the reason Advertisers are interested in them, you are the reason they can monetize their channel. You are doing all that anyone has any right to ask of you. Their financial woes are not your responsibility to fix.
Yea laying people off sucks but 25 full time employees for a TH-cam channel is ludicrous
Thanks so much guys for showing us how to ruin your career in one video. I really appreciate it ❤️❤️❤️
im just doomscrolling the comment section to avoid processing my own fucking dissapointment rn
Same. I've been obsessively scrolling through all day yesterday and today just hoping for some explanation about why we were blindsided like this and why they didn't try other avenues before this. I'm so gutted. And there's just silence from them

“Anyone and everyone can afford it”
I know my experience is not universal but I have gone two winters without heat because I could not afford it, so no, anyone and everyone cannot afford this.
Ive gone three years without a working ac in my car and I live in Georgia where the summer heat OUTSIDE the car gets to around 110. Trust me if I could afford the $1605 bill to fix it I would have looong ago.
Yeah, there's a lot I'm willing to give up to keep electricity on, gas in my car, food on the table. I can't justify $6 a month for something that doesn't have a ton of content. Paramount+ is literally the same price but tons more stuff.
I love Watcher and the Ghoul Boys, but this is just going to become The Bravest Warriors/Cartoon Hangover all over again.
Edit: I also don't want to pay to watch Steven stuff his face with expensive food while there's a recession going on :v
@@rocketbillyoh god bravest warriors 😭
THIS!! Also, if you’re in a different country who has a lower currency then it’s going to cost you more than “just” $6/mo. In Australia it’s equivalent to 10 USD because CURRENCY EXCHANGE🤦🤦
I was thinking this :( The last three months my account got to the negative after bills and payments, I really can't afford a recurring subscription.
As someone who CAN afford the new streaming service, this decision is so tone deaf and selfish that I will NOT be investing a dime of my money into y’all. Hope this decision makes the change you wanted
I can an afford it but the real question is why would I pay for it? These guys aren’t Netflix. They don’t have the shows nor production that warrants us paying a subscription fee. Plus last time I checked Netflix doesn’t have a Patreon that is still active and running concurrently.
@@calpal6249 I thought about it but then went against it. I think they should do a seven free day trail to see if fans even want to get it.

I can afford it too but tbf all I cared about was ghost files which is defo not worth paying for when it’s not a full time thing 😅
This is ironically the most scripted thing they’ve done
The funny thing is the poor people are the ones watching your content. Not the rich that that can pay 65 dollars a year on 8 different platforms. You guys totally don't understand who your audience is
we never wanted better quality. all we wanted was shane and ryan, doing their stuff like they were at buzzfeed, but just in a better working environment. nobody asked for this
literally this ^
I only came here for Shane and Ryan.
THIS
My money is in Steve being the mastermind behind these decisions
Steven is a fucking Silicon Valley nepo baby who thinks he’s more than he is. Ryan and Shane make jokes about aliens all the time when in reality they’ve got an alien right behind them pulling the strings. He got into their head and started whispering sweet nothings. He is the embodiment of buzzfeed. Greed corrupts and now Ryan and Shane are biting off more than they can chew.
@@vengefulspirit99 A lot of hate is going to steven (Which is deserved), but even if he is masterminding at least one of the other two (my bet is ryan) agreeing fully, because if each of them have 1/3rd of the company, decisions have to be at least 2 people fully agreeing
Finally something the Shaneiacs and Boogaras can agree on!... how terrible an idea this is 💀

Honestly this ^^
Shane & Ryan, my teenage son and I LOVED you, you were our 'comfort' show. Cant sleep? Just wanna chill? Wanna re-watch our favorite episodes? SHANE & RYAN IT IS!
We were so happy for you when you left Buzzfeed and made Watcher, you guys were awesome and 100% DESERVED the success. But....Watcher wasnt the same. Your 10 5 Beatdown got so raunchy and way too sexual. We just tuned out because it WASNT THE SAME. And now to see you guys do this? It's a heartbreaking disappointment.
No one tuned in to watch Steven WHOEVER pretend to be a bartender, pretend to be a food critic, or travel ANYWHERE! Hes your ceo, we get that, but his incorporating himself onto the scene? Its WRECKED you guys. He should have just made his OWN channel! But sadly, its too late now.
We are done, but still wish you well and please take care.
Me and my mom had the exact same experience as you. I completely agree with everything you said
I’m done with this channel. Your content is way over produced, we miss the old buzz days with just goofy Shane & Ryan. Now money matters most. Disappointed.
I didn't realize that when Shane said, "Eat the rich," that it was going to be a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Dear god you’re right
for people who say "eat the rich" theyre looking AWFULLY tasty rn...

Very true they could of had a clip at the end to thank all the patron for all the support.
I didn't even think about that. That's a really interesting point
The Patreon makes about 100k a month too
i WAS a member but uh. yeah this kinda made me feel unappreciated and taken for granted.
“Anybody and everybody can afford ($5.99)” is such a disgusting thing to say. How out of touch can you be?
your apology doesn't make up for the ruined reputation. there's something to be said about steven filming his 'we can't afford it' section in a kitchen that looks like its part of a multimillion dollar home. i would LOVE to know how much each of you are personally bringing home salary wise. also, it is in really poor taste to ask people to subscribe to this platform so that you can 'go international.' you want us to pay for your trip to france? come on guys.
Shane's wife made a comment on Instagram or something complaining about unfair wages. But apparently their wedding was in the millions of dollar range. I didn't read it, but I've heard from multiple people about it.
@@bradleyungles8605 They needed an expensive wedding to distract from their poor business acumen and greedy personalities

if y’all are really saying that you can’t afford to make videos on this scale anymore then the awnser is to scale back, not force us to pay for new shit. we are just gonna rewatch the old shit and act like you died or something
This is exactly right, much fewer fans would be pissed off if the quality of the content dropped than if they put it all behind a pay wall. It's so tone deaf.
REALLLLLLLLLL
@roborob4000 thats the thing though, fans WOULDNT be mad about a quality drop, especially the og buzzfeed fans, as long as shane and ryan are with eachother any episode is still enjoyable, theyre just desperate for money so they can buy more teslas
*The Watcher boys:* QUIT TELLING PEOPLE WE'RE DEAD!
*Fans, rewatching old videos on TH-cam:* Sometimes I can still hear their voices...
"Act like you died" is hilarious but so accurate. After this I feel like most fans will feel like the show they wanted, the thing they signed up for, is just GONE.
the goodbye video being over 10 minutes for that sweet youtube adsense is just the icing on the cake
The monetization time isn’t 10 minutes
@@gianlucagallegos5153 i’m referring to midroll ads, which i got two of during this video. four in total - one in the beginning, end, and then two in the middle. under ten minutes, you can’t input midroll ads (which give you more revenue).

@@damaged.collateral Not to defend them on their scummy move, but I believe 8 minutes is the new minimum, and the video is over 14. That part doesn't seem intentional, just them thinking they can convince us to buy it if the video is more "genuine"
@@PyxeledGenesis i didn’t know that, thanks for telling me :P i’ve heard the longer videos are, the more money you’re able to make off youtube though which makes sense because this video feels bloated, like it could have been condensed into five minutes.
