Great video! Also if you wait until after Christmas those trees are super cheap. I paid 4 dollars a tree last year at Fred Myers. That's good tree savings! Thanks for the video!
Thank you both for sharing your knowledge! Thanks to your videos I succesfully pruned the two beautiful but overgrown maples in my yard this fall after ten years of neglect. They look so much better! Y'all gave me the confidence and know-how to get it done. I am def inspired to try this project next. Do you have any suggestions for sourcing slabs/flat containers? Thank you!!!
@@TheMurpleMan that's great to hear! We're glad to be able to share our techniques with you. As for finding flat marble containers, those are pretty hard to find. You would want to look for a bonsai/pending specialty store near you or find a bonsai club member. Slab rocks can be a bit easier depending on location. You would want to look for landscaping companies as these slabs are used for building large aquascapes. If you're in our area, we have both slabs and marble plates available.
I live in California and I'm doing a forest too with alberta spruces. Can I start pruning and repotting to make a forest now or should I wait until spring?
One comment, aren't a bit smaller branches important because they make the trunk appear even larger, and they are easier to work on? I was watching a Peter Chan video yesterday and he emphasized the importance of small branches. Thanks for the video!
@@AlecShernAPS yes, smaller branches do make the tree look bigger, but you wouldn't want the lowest branch to be smaller than the ones high above. The lower the branch, the older it is, so that's why we tend to remove small low branches. It also depends on the style you're creating. Forest groupings can lean away from traditional rules a bit as group plantings can hide minor details. If you prune back too much, it doesn't feel like a forest. If you don't prune back enough, it gets too crowded.
@@mokajones74 not crazy at all! After the holidays, you can find some great material for clearance. We've been able to find some good spruce trees for just $5.
