Looking forward to seeing this. Still waiting to hear on who will build the R262, and when the R268 will be revealed. The latter is said to replace any R68s and R68As not replaced by the R211s.

      @@ianhardy9375 Yeah, you nailed it.
The second option Was supposed to be "originally" an EXPANSION ORDER for the E,N and L lines.
What changed that was the "Congestion Pricing" situation, the delay ordering the cars and the fallout behind COVID 19 supplier issues.
One thing that should be said, is The MAJORITY OF THE ISSUES is the MTAs own fault decision wise.
They chose to make the new NTT cars "sets" instead of married pairs.
They chose to build 75ft cars for a new system that they knew wouldn't be up and running anytime soon.
They knew there would be logistics issues with the cars in the future because they never "fixed" the Eastern Division problem.
They didn't invest the already allocated money For the line for improvements, claiming it was too complicated and expensive.
They were talking about how to fix the Jamaica Line with its tight curves, close station envelope, and platforms.
The Canarsie line needed catwalk shaving and platform extensions, along with the Myrtle Ave line.
The Eastern Division Was supposed to be integrated into the New System, via Chrystie st and Second Avenue subway.
Since the MTA claimed being broke, none of the expansion plans panned out, including Eastern Division work.
It Would have been fine,if car design stuck with the married pair concept, or even single car.
But the Beginning of the car issues began with the R44s.
The SAS Should have been up and running When the cars were in the design phase, but since the line Was expected to be built by the mid 80s, they pressed forward anyway.
Mind you, the cars were EXCLUSIVELY BUILT FOR THE NEW ROUTES, ALONG WITH THE R46.
Things were so bad on the existing lines, that the TA placed the cars in service on existing routes, to retire the worst equipment, especially along the Queens Blvd line.
The old Prewar R units were retired by the 44/46, and the next batch of cars would be placed in SAS service after the first section opened.
The R55s never materialized, along with the CANCELLED SAS.
The MTA, not learning from its mistakes, pressed forward with the R55 program, but relabeled the cars "R68/68a".
Sorry about that, but it should be pointed out, that even after the "big plans" failing, the MTA tried to salvage most of it, without thinking things through.
Figuring the longer car would save on costs, reduce the "need for service" (8 car of 75fts vs 10 car 60fts).
The problem with this was something well known Today, locked doors between cars, isolation, not enough entry or exiting.
They quietly decided to never purchase 75ft cars again.
The limited service clearly stood out when it was established they were not allowed to operate along Eastern Division lines.
By now, you get where I'm going with this.
One bad decision after another, instead of sticking to what works.
The worst, creating the CURRENT situation, which limits Where the NTT cars can operate.
4 and 5 cars sets are RIDICULOUS, forcing limitations where there shouldn't be.
Also, this present s more problematic issues.
Eastern District platforms can berth 9 car trains.
      Why not run them?

The " B" Line is basically a part time train that's a local offshoot of the main branch " D" line. The priority for the new cars will probably be geared first towards 7 days a week 24 hour lines like the D. The Q line has old and new cars. And it's not unusual for rolling stock to be on the road for 40 years. In the 1970s we had trains running from the 1930s along with the trains they are retiring now.

The approved second option order of the R211s (355 R211A's & 80 R211T's) will replace the rest of the R46 and half of the R68 fleet. The R268s (355 cars in the 2025-2029 capital plan) will replace the rest of the R68s.
R262's will replace the R62's in the 2025-2029 capital plan.

The new cars coming next year will be the R211A Option order(640 cars), with the Second Option order closely following with mixed sets of 211A and 211T fleets.
What the 268s will look like is still up for speculation, but I'm pretty sure they will be similar to the previous order.
We've already seen what the 262s will look like, since the MTA has been pushing for these cars for several years.

The R262 will replace all the R62/62a on the IRT A Division.
The R211, AND the R268s will replace the R46/68/68a cars along B Division lines.
The missing facts are no new railcars for the Eastern Division lines.

    • @unbelievabler504
      @unbelievabler504 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@davidng2336 Yes,that is true.
But since the MTA is moving in to a "new era" of ADA compliance, and the new cars Are built for that purpose, you would expect SOME of the cars placed in service over there.
Especially on the L line, where overcrowding is a real situation.
I get it that the east is all "new tech". They really didn't have a choice since they boxed themselves into this by making the new cars "sets" instead of Married Pairs or singles.
I'm sure, when all is said and done,All R179 4 car sets will be sent to the east, the G will get Some R211s, the A/C will be completely R211a, the D will be a mixed bag.
The Queens Blvd line will be a mixed bag of 160s and 211s.
The Broadway lines will be a mixed bag of 211s and 268s.
That's what we have to look forward to.
One thing the TA hasn't really made "public" is the fact they are working on replacing the R142 Already! It's still pretty far off, but seriously go back and look through the "rolling stock" proposals, and you will see.
They are looking to hit the ground running on replacing the First generation NTT cars, including the A Division stock.
All in all,as long as everything is good, we get to where we have to go,it's all good.

First of all, these csrs will not be here in 3025, you will be lucky if we see them in 27 the earliest. Second.,just became the 68s are still running ,from the first capital program, just tells you how reliable they are. The 211s break down often, to technology advanced for the Subway, steel dust, ans electronics dont mix. As for the 262s, no contact has been signed or manufacturer has been chosen. The 142's are halfway their lifespan, and parts are getting difficult to com by. It will cost millions to convert those cars for C.B.T.C. They will also have to be replaced.

Believe it or not, the MTA already has a plan for the original NTT cars, beginning with the R143s.
Moving forward, the 268s will be virtually carbon copies of the 211a , with various improvements built into the design specs.
262s,262a will be the smaller versions of the 211Ts,as they are supposed to All be Open Gangway cars.
It's no mystery why the MTA is doing this,as they have mentioned in the past they would be looking to replace the 68s between 2025 and 2029.
I even suggested years ago, that they could buy enough 211, to start the process of replacing the remaining 75ft cars.
Looks to me like someone was listening.
I believe it would make more sense to just replace all the 68s Now, with a Third Option order.
The proposed "growth cars" for the E,N, and L lines were "changed" to the Replacement Cars for the R68s .
The True R268 were supposed to be a rather large fleet of 700 plus cars.
However, Now Option 2 will be the cars that will retire about half of the 68s.
The reason why this is being expedited is the MTAs own scheduling.
They are CBTC nutty right now, looking to get ahead of the program,so they won't be in a similar situation like what happened to Queens Blvd lines All the R160s from Coney Island, and the current 8th Ave CBTC rolling stock problem.
Broadway will eventually get CBTC, and they want to be prepared for it.
With this move, all the 75ft cars will be gone for good.
All cars can operate anywhere within the B Division.
Here's what to look forward to.
All base order cars to 8th Ave, Fulton St lines for CBTC.
A and C line fully equipped.
Base order, minus the R211T, since those cars Will be migrating to the Crosstown line for its CBTC program.
Some Option order cars Will head to the C, to fill out the rest of the requirements.
      Next up,is the D.
The TA has been wanting to move those cars from the D line for some reasonable measure of time, but the folks at Concourse were pretty reluctant to let them go.
The cars were broken in on the southern end of the route,true.. but the car has operated in D service for the last 35 plus years exclusively, with the Original assigned cars STILL there.
With 6th Ave and DeKalb junction up for conversion, the MTA doesn't have much choice but to replace the cars sooner than later.
Next up, the Queens Blvd routes,E F R.
We will see a massive car move around this time, with some R160s returning back to the Southern Division, some 179s moving moving to the Crosstown and Eastern Division.
Everything will be a mixed bag of NTT cars moving forward, with ONLY THE A and C, and D being completely NEW cars.
Queens Blvd will have a mixed bag of 160s, and 211s.
Coney Island Southern Division lines will Also mixed, with R160s and R268s as they arrive.
The Eastern Division will remain R143,160,179s shared between the J M L and Z.
