- Today's secrets is extra festive for the holidays, and why not do the D train. Secrets revealed range from consequences of weird topography in The Bronx and unique 1960s station design, to concrete viaducts and an "out of bounds sign."

My home line! Thanks for doing this!
Also here's another secret: at 47-50th streets, You can exit at 49th street and 6th avenue NORTHWEST CORNER (If you're exiting on the downtown platform, exit at the back of the platform and vice versa), there will be an elevator there. Once you get to the elevator, turn around and you will see evidence of the V train existing!
another secret of the d line that the abandoned 9th avenue down stairs station that used to be a shuttle line but after that it was closed and used for the d line also goes to the 32 street yard which is used for trains that have to transfer or go to the 32 street yard
Great video! Favorite line for me:
1) R68s, my favorites
2) runs to Yankee Stadium😊
Note: the mosaic tile treatments on the exterior of the Bay Parkway station are in pretty good shape.
The Bay Parkway station is so busy for shopping and because of the interchange with the B6, B82, and B1. It truly is a "hub" for Bensonhurst/Gravesend.
Thanks for the upload and the really intersting facts of the D line.
I am finally glad you did the D line cause
1: One of my favorite lines
2: I live by that line
Thank You so much Dude!
Fun true fact... The D line was originally planned to travel past 205th street station, cross under the bronx river and bronx park and connect to the IRT 2 train at Burke Avenue as it was to succesfully replace the connection that was done with the 3rd Avenue elevated aka 8 Line at Gun Hill Road to the 2 train there.the tracks beyond 205th street acrually go all the way to Webster Avenue, ending there. There is actually a subway grate / emergency egress on the corner of 205th and webster near the apartment building
Also the original plan for the never built second avenue line was to connect the IND subway at 155th streetto the current 5 line next to the Amtrak railroad tracks and continue to Dyre Ave as the 5 line from 180th to Dyre ave was originally purchased by NYC from the defunct New York Westchester and Boston railroad so technically it is an IND line! It uses IRT equipment because it uses 2 line tracks after Morris Park. You can actually see where the platforms where widened to compensate the narrower IRT cars
I used to live on 18th ave and you could always hear the train before you could see it and it was always fun watching it come around the corner. Also when I would fall asleep I could tell when my stop was because of the curve
That weird tile work is a art installation in 2002 called “wall slide”
That 175th st end of the station has a closed exit down to the street. About 5 years ago it looked like a cage back there. They covered it up during the renovation.
While you mentioned the switches around 161 / YS, it is worth mentioning that uptown D trains will stop at 161 st / Yankee stadium leading up to events, even during PM rush hours.
In addition, while the IRT stationed opened before the original Yankee Stadium was built, the IND concourse station was approved and opened after Ruth's house was built.
This is 1 of my favorite trains! This train takes me home from seeing the Radio City Rockettes for their annual Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular! And Fordham Road is my station; That's where, like you said; the Bx12 Select Bus Service is back!
Don't skip 145 St, man. It's a seven-track station for Pete's sake.
Conductors indication board for the 8 car 160 is for the M train that use to run to Bay Parkway through the cut tracks in the Montague Tube
The Bedford Park Blvd WAS designed to be a terminal for the CC, and later B trains from day one. The Concourse express trains - the 8th Avenue Express C train(earliest years) , and the later Sixth Avenue Express D train - 1940's to present. Notice the direct tracks to the train yard. Mike
Fordham Road is my favorite station on the D line as well! thanks for including my hometown Bx12 bus. only thing is that you forgot to mention that 174-175 streets is under Grand Concourse but on top of the Cross-Bronx Expressway!
You can view this from Jerome Ave. I was a kid living nearby and could not figure how the proposed Cross Bronx Xway was not going to disturb the trains.
In the G train video, you should mention that at 15th St-Prospect Park, there is an outdated sign that tells you when you exit you can transfer to the “B68” “B69” and “B75”. The B69 doesn’t run on prospect park west anymore and the B75 got removed.
I grew up at the very end of the D Train tunnel on 205th Street to the East. It had to end there because there was a cliff leading to NY Central tracks (Now called Metro North) and Bronx Park on the other side of Webster Ave.
It was also said that the D was supposed to go down Burk Avenue with a stop at White Plains Rd. Turn onto Boston road and end at Baychester Avenue, but the Dyre Avenue line being purchased by the city was a cheaper alternative.
I propose having the run to Bay Terrace-Cross Island Parkway via Concourse express, Burke Avenue express, Bruckner Boulevard express, & the Throgs Neck Bridge, while the (D) should run to Throgs Neck-Schurz Avenue via Bruckner Boulevard local & the IND Tremont Avenue Elevated Line. I also propose rebuilding the IND Concourse Line to have 4 tracks to allow for express service in both directions.
These should be the stations on the IND Concourse Line, IND Burke Avenue Line, IND Bruckner Boulevard Line, & IND Throgs Neck Bridge to Trackage from 145th Street to Bay Terrace-Cross Island Parkway:
Ⓜ️ Bay Terrace-Cross Island Parkway (express only)
Ⓜ️ Locust Point (express only)

Ⓜ️ 167th Street (local)
Ⓜ️ 161st Street-Yankee Stadium (local)

Ⓜ️ Randall Avenue (local only)
Ⓜ️ Barkley Avenue (local only)
buh whyd you skip over the abandoned staircases at 170 st that use to be a trolley connection
It wasn't a line that I rode regularly but that express trip from West 4th and 34th, what a rush lol
161 had rectangular tiles before renovation.
At the McDonald’s by Yankee Stadium, there’s some subway artwork that “protrudes” from underground onto the sidewalk. And I personally would’ve mentioned that from the 62 Street station, you get a great view of the Verrezzano-Narrows Bridge.
Some of these things I didn't know about the Delta! Primarily the Bronx stuff. Something you could've mentioned is that at that mall at 47/50, there's a sign that says (B) (D) (F) (Q). Surprised they didn't update this sign from the 90's!
And, I don't know precisely where, but inside 47/70 too coming in from the ice ring, you can find art work for the (V). I think 47/70 is so big that they literally don't know where all of the signs are.
@ Another comment says it’s on the NW Exit towards 6th Avenue, but I didn’t know that!
It’s true that the Jerome Avenue el station at 161st and River Avenue (served by the 4) predates the original Yankee Stadium, but the Concourse Line was added after. It seems like not formally addressing the nearby attraction was a choice, same as it was at 155th and 8th for the Polo Grounds.
It's a pleasure to live 5 blocks from Bay Parkway, and to have 2540, lol.
Hey buddy, you should've mentioned the sixth Avenue walkway that used to exist in the 80s that went from the 40th Street exit at 42nd Street to 36th Street at 34th Street.
You could walk from the 42nd Street station to 34th Street Station underground . It was removed in the 90s because of crime.
You forgot to mention there was supposedly a pathway on the side platforms at Fordham Road.
i used to take the D to brooklyn lmao it’s so lonely when it’s not express
Should have gotten an invite but it’s whatever, I used this line for my whole life now.
Another Secret: At 170th Street Station theres a staircase that leads to an underpass under 170th street that was closed due to security reasons but I don't fully know what security risks came from it for it to be closed in the 90s
the same is true for 167th Street station, and as someone else in the comments explained, there was a trolley line that used the underpass and once service ended the transfer was gated, tiled over with a door being the only way to access it
I hope a 4 train line is done next.👍
I take the train from Charlotte to NYC! Hop on the A train to 125th and catch the D train to 170th to visit my dad who live across the street from Taft High School!
Kinda bummed you didn't go over 182nd-183rd Sts more as I used to live there lol. But yes, only 182nd Street is open. They should just rename the station to 182nd Street
you mention the "unused" island platform at the Columbus Circle station, but in reality it's been an underpass connection to the IRT #1 train's uptown and downtown platforms for a few years now, fenced off on both sides to make it clear it's not an in-use platform.
A bit of trivia about the unused platform below the 9th Avenue Brooklyn stop: it was used as a filming location for the 19__ "Crocodile Dundee" movie - the only time I've seen the lower level used in a movie.
I'm aware about the “open” portion of the abandoned platform at 59 Street, and I mentioned it when I went here for the A train video. I showed it again here since I wanted to get a shot of the portion of the platform without the transfer passage
Believe it or not, that lower level platform got used one more time back in 2018. If you're interested, watch JOKER, and check out the subway shooting sequence. The darkly lit platform Arthur gets out of? That's the 9th Avenue Lower Level!❤
In the 1980s...the very last 3 stops in Brooklyn were
SHEEPHEAD BAY
BRIGHTON BEACH
CONEY ISLAND
AS THE TRAIN TURN INTO THE SHEEPHEAD BAY STATION..YOU SEE THE RIDES IN CONEY ISLAND..AND THE MORE TURNS AINTO BRIGHTON BEACH. YOU SEE MORE RIDES..AND THEN THE FINAL TURN YOU SEE THE MAIN RIDE..CYCLONE..BEFORE YOU GET OFF THE TRAIN AS WELL FROM THE PLATFORM... WITH THE EXIT SIGN POINTING TO ASTRO LAND/ BEACH
It was nice to see the D line again. I was a Conductor there in 1967 and a Motorman in 1968. Too bad Transit didn't keep the
R32 cars. I operated all of the cars in the museum but gate cars and the R32 cars were the absolute best. Just add a/c and keep them
Forever. The R44 and R46 were total garage.
garbage.

2:41 we not gonna talk about the blue D?
Huh?
They filmed “The Cowboy Way” (1994) at 62nd street and you’ll see the R40 Slants
205th Street is the end of the line, but it isn't the terminal.
You're probably too young but this used to be the B.
Can you do the f line?
(D) Train Norwood 205Th St The Bronx To Coney Island Stillwell Ave Brooklyn ♿
The Concourse line was supposed to be 4 tracks wide.
After the G, can you do the 3 line?
Cam u do the N next?
Maybe there could be an extension of the D line since the layout is already set for 2 way traffic 🤷
You made add an extra station? The catchment area would just be Webster Avenue as the tunnel does not go through the Bronx River.
Secrets of the 5 train!
Can u do G next??
E next?
🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁LION takes LIKE Number 210 -----> Nathan's used to be good, but ever since super Storm Sandy they have changed their formula and it is no longer any good.
i may be an idiot but i thought this was about the D line in los angeles 😭
That line is purple, not orange
@blue9multimediagroup oof yeah thats on me, i was tired and for some reason i saw the orange d line circle colored as purple instead of orange
