Thank you for uploading. I know the pieces well, I studied them. It is strange they are never performed. They were published by Henle. Schumann did not finish all of them, some of the material is used in the Etudes Symphoniques, and some are in the Bunte Blätter. The theme is a bit 'monothematic' and it gives a glow of sadness on the whole set, but there are real jewels between them. I knew this beautiful recording which brought me to study these variations.
I like his little reorganisation of variation 2,3 and 4. it makes a lot of sense for me and i think Schumann would agree with it, but who can say?...unfortunatelly he never finished this extraordinary masterpiece. Thanks, Mr. Katsaris for this inspriring interpretation.

There are much faster recording that, despite the exposed virtuosity, waste most of the texture and musicality of these variations. Katsaris details much better the richness of the music
Wow, variation starting at 7:53 melds the theme from the 7th symphony with the beginning of the 9th, Schumann is so cool!!

A gorgeous piece and truly wonderful playing!
The last variation is heartbreaking...
3:39 Exact same texture as one of the Symphonic Etudes, Op. 11!! Definitely on my radar of pieces to next learn!

wow - new (for me) Schumann - and variations on a famous Beethoven theme. Fascinating meld of these 2 such different composers.
Admirable!
This is one of my favourite piano pieces....
Now I know what I will practice. This work is amazing and the interpretation of Katsaris is impressive.

Katsaris seems to be the master of other composers' adaptations of the 7th Symphony. First the Liszt, now this.
Very precious recording. thnak's.
Great display of fire and technique for these difficult and little known variations.
Should be performed more often. A wonderful reading by Katsaris.
Excellent

A great recent discovery!

Dear Magbag,
It extremely hard to understand your English. Thanks you.
anticipating TANGO
Yes I noticed the “tango” variation. Did you catch the reference to the opening of Beethoven’s Ninth?
Don' t like much of Schumann' piano works , so this is a pleasant discovery indeed
Have you listened to the Fantasy Opus 17 it is sublime... one of the great works of the piano repertoire...
@@TJFNYC212 Really depends on who plays it...
