I’m actually better at straightening up my house in the evening than in the morning. But as long as I do it daily, I guess that’s what really matters.

I do fly lady, though I fell off after a move and need to get back to it. The thing I love about it is that it builds each habit over time rather than trying to do it all at once. For me that never stuck. I have had to make adjustments to some of it because I live in the country and we have four dogs and two cats. So that means dusting and taking care of my floors have to be done way more often. I change my sheets weekly, drilled into me by my mom. I do sleep with my dog but he's a yorkie so hair isn't a issue.
One thing I saw in the video is something I have had to work on myself. So when you are doing things in the kitchen and bathroom the reason it's messy is because you aren't "cleaning along the way". So let's say you are making scrambled eggs. As you finish using the ingredients put them away. And as you are finished using each dish wash it. So as I pour the eggs into the pan I immediately take the bowl and whisk and wash them. Same for getting ready in the bathroom. I pull out anything I will be using and as I finish using each item I put it back. Not gonna lie it took me a while to create this habit because like you I just left the room when I was done doing ANYTHING. My bathroom looks like it is about the size of yours but three people share it so we have to do this. Hope this helps. Your home is coming along beautifully.

I clean as I go but it's harder with breakfast because everything is cooking at once and it all cooks pretty fast. It's pretty easy with dinner and baking.

Yeah, nothing feels better than heading out and knowing, when you come back, everything is in order. I love the little hanger that says "Bonjour". It is such a lovely little detail. I work in rolling shifts so my routine is a bit different. When I have the day shift, I get up really early and see, that I get ready for the day. Not much housework done since I work 12 hours shifts. But the evening before, I have everything ready and orderly already so I can leave without thinking about it. When I have the night shift, I get up in the morning, do, whatever needs to be done (laundery and so on) and see to it, that I am done until noon(ish), so I know, I can either sleep for a few hours again or relax. If I have two night shifts in a row, when I get up between night shifts, I see to it, that there is nothing lying around and all the dishes are in the dishwasher or in the closets and maybe I do one or two little tihngs. The days I am off duty I do the cleaning and other tasks that take longer

I have 2 percale sets of sheets and one flannel. I'd like to say I always change them once a week but honestly sometimes it's 2 weeks. Over the past couple of months as I re-declutter my place and deep clean, then get some cleaning routines in place, I'm getting better about things. I keep watching all your videos for inspiration. You have such a calming spirit that comes through. I find that the more clean and decluttered I keep the place, the more I enjoy it and remember to do the little things to keep it clean. I've started just wiping the bathroom sink every time I use it and it really helps with the hard water buildup around the faucet / handles / drain plug.

Wow! I am really impressed by your desire and efforts to get into the habits of having a clean house. It's so rewarding and mind calming to live in and come back to a tidy and clean home. It's a habit that took me almost 2 years to master, and I can't see myself doing otherwise or without. Even on periods where life is hectic and I don't have much time, the house remains tidy because everything has a place to go back to and my routines are automatic. I don't even have to think about them. For me, that's peace of mind 😌

Hi, Carla. I don't have a dishwasher, either. I have found it is really hard to do the dishes consistently, too. My teen and I have made many attempts in making routines. We just now have one set of silverware per person, one cup/bowl/plate per person each day. We are responsible for keeping our sets clean. We both work on the dishes after each meal. It's a constant battle. Currently eating all three meals at home each day! Great job on your kitchen. I watched a video a while back where you had decluttered. I was shocked at how tidy it is looking now. Wow! Great work!

Love your view from the bedroom window but can't help but think of the spider hotels there 😂 😂 😂 Growing up, we lived in a house for a short time that had huge trees outside the window and one morning quite early, I was coming into the living room... my mom had fallen asleep there the night before and as I was walking, I saw this piece of newspaper moving and freaked out thinking it was a mouse or something. I said in a low voice, "Mom, this newspaper is moving" and I said it in such a low voice that my mom knew immediately and jumped up from a dead sleep. She ripped up the newspaper and saw a HUGE fox spider. It was massive and still gives me chills thinking about it. Suffice to say, that was the first of many visits from spiders and we moved shortly thereafter.

We change our bedding every 2 weeks, if necessary then of course also more often, for example when someone had a fever.
My morning routine including general grooming for me, fixing and eating our breakfast, preparing lunch snacks for my daughter and getting dressed to leave the house lasts 1h 15min.
I do my cleaning in the afternoon and evening, maybe 15 -30 min each day and my partner does his bit as well, maybe also 15-30mins. Deep cleaning on the weekend is 2-3h.

Hello, thank you for your video! I really don't know about top loading washing machines, but in front loading ones I got advised not to use lemon juice or vinegar, since it can eat away on the rubber inside. Aaaaand my personal tip: always change the room. You go to the toilet? Stash some item away. You get a glass of water? Put something back on the shelf. It makes a difference to the length of tidying left to do if every time you do ONE thing! I change the sheets every 2 weeks, but if the kids leave their marks on them, I will change them more often. You have to remember that you don't have so much laundry every day (I do a full load per day for a family of four), so not every day has that much laundry. Not every day is your dog food prep day. See it this way: our ancestors didn't have a "job" but we're busy with food and work around their home/cave/clothes all of their time. Keep it up, you have achieved so much! Be proud of yourself! Greetings from Luxembourg

It looks so good… you will be so happy walking into that at the end if your day. My FlyLady morning routine takes about 30 minutes, but before I decluttered and got in the habit of cleaning up after myself throughout the day, it took a couple of hours!! It gets easier every day after the first one! (But, I do only start a load of laundry and move it to the dryer later and fold and put away later in the day. )

Every Saturday (or Sunday this week) I tear my bed apart and wash the sheets first (so bed is ready for nighttime if I get behind). Once a month I wash my thin bedspread. Then I do my darks, brights, whites and lastly towels. During the week I HAVE to make my bed before leaving and I keep my morning routine super simple. My mirror gets cleaned daily with my Norwex window cloth because the steam provides the water to wash it and the bathroom gets wiped down weekly and scrubbed monthly. I clean off my area of the table and clean out my purse and work bag weekly as I am doing lesson plans and weekly school prep. Everyone else at home has their responsibilities to keep our house livable.

Samson-lol! l change my sheets every 2 weeks (usually). I do the Fly Lady method as well. In the morning I swish and swipe and make my bed, in the evening I shine my sink and do one load of laundry. That's about all I can manage working outside of the home. I split up the weekly home blessing over the weekend. I kind of suck at Zone cleaning, but if I can squeeze some of that in, I find my place stays mostly clean.

Isave so much money doing it, it's such a great habit, but its really exhausting the clean up after and def lowers my life energy and ability to go out into the world and do other things. Wow! This felt more like 2-3 days worth of cleaning for me! Hahaha.
I'm more of a clean-as-I-go kind of person. During my bathroom routine, I use one item and put it right back without setting it down (usually). When I cook, I take out the ingredients and put them away as I finish using them.
My laundry routine is a load every 3 days. Day 1 is wash and dry. Day 2 is fold and put away. Day 3 is catch-up or rest (more like do another chore). I have a toddler and wash my husband's stuff, too, except his hockey gear, but I have chosen to have duller whites over spending the time to keep them separate. Unless we're talking about my curtains! 😜
I gifted myself a Eufy robot vacuum two years ago and a mini robot mop this year and they are some of the best things I've ever bought. Holy cow. I struggle with low energy and they are just life saving.
I loved your idea to use a cloth to catch the extra espresso grounds! What a great eat to contain a mess.
Thanks for sharing this! I'm not finished watching, but I hope you'll share what a sustainable routine would look like. There's no way I can spend 3 of my most productive morning hours not working for my job. I'm curious to hear what you'll say at the end. I change my bedding/linens like every other Weekend. Or let me say I try.. 😅
But what I love to do is vacuming the matrace after stripping off the linens, before putting new ones on.

Hi Carla. Loved this video. Something that motivates me is doing laundry at night to cut on time taken in the morning. I don't have a dryer but have a rack where clothes dry. Drying at night means it is ready for ironing in the morning. Also, I start with a cup of coffee 😉 and open all the curtains and windows for that lovely cool air in the morning. 💕💕

I wash/change bedding once a week, change pillow cases after two sleeps. I have allergies and was always waking up with a puffy face/eyes. Being consistent with this has made such a huge difference and my skin has improved as well. Also Sampson is SO handsome in his bandanna 💛

New subscriber here. Great video and very motivational. I try (try is the word here) to meal plan for the week on Sundays. This helps with my morning routine because I generally don't cook in the morning. I make a few breakfast items (sausage & egg scramble in muffin pans, boiled eggs, etc. Since I work from home I also make enough meals for lunch and dinner. I change my linen weekly and have tried various cleaning g methods over the years and the fly lady works for me. I meal prep on Sundays and nothing else, I leave the rest of the day as my time, to read, sleep, go shopping, basically anything I WANT to do, no work or cleaning though.
    Have a great week!

My morning routine takes an hour. Because that's the time I have after I get up before kids get up and we all got to go. I could have more time, and a longer morning routine, but I don't wanna get up that early! You mentioned it in the cleaning vid, but I really like the way the navy couch looks with the chartreuse tv shelf! I know it's a crazy combination, but it makes me happy! Great vid, Carla!!

We wash our bedding every 5 or so days, more frequently during summer months or hot days. Love hanging out sheets on line to dry. I’ve got 3 cats here, one seems to be moulting on a permanent basis (yet remains super fluffy and cute!) and vacuuming/sweeping daily is the bane of my life but she’s gorgeous so I don’t mind. At least she’s clean and washes herself every day unlike my kids who have to be nagged to wash their faces never mind having a shower!

Great routine. I felt very accomplished after watching your home become so lovely so I can only imagine how great you felt. My morning routine...hhhmmmm. I'm retired so have nothing to rush to. Every morning I make a big cup of tea and watch youtube. Then I make breakfast and read the Bible. Sometimes I have the washing going early. I make my bed Monday to Friday and leave it on the weekend. That is my easy and loose routine lol

I love watching your videos! They're so calming. I did a personal challenge a while ago where I made myself clean and tidy everyday for a week. It felt so good to have a clean kitchen in the morning (I'm naturally not the tidiest person...) but I realised that people who have clean houses all the time is because they are cleaning all the time... I couldn't keep it up because there was always something else I preferred to do 😅 BUT I am so much better now, though I'm not perfect, I don't leave mess anymore like I used to. You inspire me!!

Kudos to you! I do have a morning routine, but it's very scaled down in comparison to your routine 😂...I don't usually hang out in other parts of my home during the work week AND barely cook after work, so the spaces outside of my bedroom are usually already neat and tidy...I only make my bed, vacuum my area rug that is in my bedroom (I live 90% of the year in The Middle East and granite flooring is very popular in homes here, so area rugs peppered throughout the home are a must) 🤗...I clean the tub, toilet, and sink in my ensuite bathroom after washing but a large portion of my morning routine is around my prayers, meditations, and devotions. I work in an International School and am usually clocking in around 6:00 am, so set my morning alarm for 3:00 am. I will light an incense and have a large mug of black tea with milk and sugar, then I meditate and pray and read my morning devotions for about 90 minutes...Then I'll start preparing for my day...The last thing I do before leaving for work around 5:30 am is vacuum my area rug in the bedroom...I am not a breakfast eater, so rarely cook breakfast. Thankfully, I wouldn't be able to keep up with all of that if I did 🤣...My Friday morning looks a lot like your video here...Fridays and Saturdays are the weekend days here in The Gulf Region, so I usually do a deeper clean during the weekends...God Bless You with your many efforts to control the piles of hair from your dog's coat...My SEVERE OCD just cannot allow me to own a pet that would shed hair at that rate 😕.

Your videos are really motivating, because it is easy to see how much progress you are making. I use vinegar when washing whites as well, but I add it to the rinse water. The real benefit of using vinegar is that it helps to remove detergent residue, which is what causes yellowing over time, or when storing whites. Using the vinegar in the rinse cycle will help to stop yellowing, but I'm not sure if it is as helpful if it's added in the detergent stage. Having said that, your whites do look lovely and white! I'm loving your videos, and send best wishes from Australia.
