Ahhh....what a great way to start the day.....my coffee fix and a stroll with the ellies in the morning! What a great view behind them! It was very interesting seeing how they roll the branches! Hoping rains come your way soon! Thank you for the update on Fishan. Oh to eat all day! Sounds good to me! Have an awesome day everyone at HERD!
I love all the noises (yes, the sound of the air in the trunk is always a treat) from those beloved elies. It is a bit as if one was walking with them. I'm so thankful for these videos. Wish you'll have some rain soon, so that they can swim again and have enough water and food.
Thank you for this lovely video; yesterday’s video about the droughts left me speechless as I’m not used to associating catastrophes with people/animals I know! I realise that with Jabulani Lodge celebrating 20 years that you will all be experienced in what you are going through with the challenges facing HERD. That said, trunk loads of admiration and respect to you for all of your efforts with the sustainability essential to you all. Of special importance is that you are another generation, carrying on from what was started by your parents, Adine, and you are facing a different set of challenges to what they did. Bravo! Bon courage! And thank you for the ‘tails’ about the herd and the update on Fishan 🙏 ❤️🐘❤️
Such a lovely and peaceful morning for all to enjoy. The family eating and relaxing with the landscape and sky in the background was enjoyable to see. Thank you carers for always ensuring the family is always fed, healthy, and happy. Thank you Adine for always educating us about the herd family members. Today's coverage about their tails was very informative and interesting. They're all my favorite, but as you know Fishan captured my heart long ago. Hopefully his family members are pulling his tail in play ;) Thank you for taking the time to show his wound, and to speak about its current condition, and for the update about the Lazer. As always, seeing gorgeous, majestic Fishan makes my day, but especially today before hurricane Milton makes his entrance here...
Look how big Khanyisa is next to the carers! She was just tiny a day ago! Bless all of you for your dedication and consistency with these beautiful creatures and with each other.💗
Long ago when I was a little girl, I would constantly beg my mom to take me to the Oakland Zoo in California. My favorite friend was Effie the elephant. I would go to one edge of her enclosure where she could reach her trunk over the wire fencing. She would rumble to me. Hearing the echo in Limpopo's trunk in this video, I remembered how I would take an empty coffee tin at home and practice rumbling in the back of my throat, into the coffee tin, to replicate it. Once, mom let me bring it with me and I rumbled to Effie and she rumbled back. I've never forgotten her. She was beloved by all and theres even an old article and picture of her birthday party at a young age. I think she was 35 when she passed. Thank you for the flashback to sweet memories of my elephant friend of my youth.
Big girl and her bottles...it never gets old. And she loves those sweet potatoes....Khanyisa is really getting big now....from a tiny little sprout. She's a beauty. The elephant walks are magical...what an honor and a gift to be able to walk with them. Everything is so dry there! I wish a good rain for you very soon. Mr. Mambo up to some trick for sure 🥰
Lovely, gentle video. Nice to see Mambo and Zindoga not sparring but eating instead! I'm glad Fishan's wound is covered but, as Adine says, it has closed and opened up before. It's a big decision about the purchase of a laser or ultrasound. If it's rarely or not used then that's a lot is money to waste which you don't want to happen. As always Love and Thanks to you all for all your hard work, much of which we never see. 😊👍💚🐘💚🙏
@@janparish7895 Hello my friend. Hope this day finds you well and good spirits. Course, anytime we get to watch the ellies, it's a good day. And you are so right...a good deal of the work at HERD is behind the scenes. We get to enjoy the fruits of their labor. The grounds are always cleaned and raked daily and everything is in it's place. You'd HAVE to be organized to run such a big project. Take care, my dear. I think of my special friends from HERD daily in prayers.🐘🩷🫂🙋♀️🤓🐿
@susanfeneley Hello Dear Susan; lovely to hear from you. Yes the HERD area is always so very well maintained due to the very hard work involved. I'm well, Thank You, and hope you are too? I have to admit I'm still feeling devastated at the loss of those two dear old Elephants at ENP. Dreadfully sad. And yet in Africa there is severe drought. It feels the world is in turmoil, both with regards to nature - floods and hurricanes in USA -and the events in the Middle East, Ukraine and elsewhere. The atrocities committed must come from such a deep hatred. I know I sound naive but why can't the world leaders just stop, look at the results of their actions, and at least try and work out a peaceful solution. It seems they are past that stage. I'm sorry, I didn't intend this to be such a miserable response to your lovely message!! We know there are many, many good people in the world doing wonderful things but we rarely see or hear about them. Our not-so-little Khanyisa is now 5!! I can barely believe it. What an inspiration she is. Against all odds she eventually thrived and it's a joy to see her as a part of a loving family. There has been much grief at HERD this year but Meisiekind brings such happiness to everyone. It's true - Elephants show us the right way to live don't they? I hope you are safe Susan and I send my Love and Well Wishes. Take care 😊🐘🐑🦏🦓🦁🦒🧡💐🙏
@@janparish7895 So pleased you're well. I am as well, just the usual aches and pains. Don't know anyone who gets through life without them!😬 Incredibly sad about those elephants at ENP. They finally had a chance at a better life and then this happens. I enjoy the playfulness of their rescued ellies; to see them without chains or horrible conditions. As you said, so many good people in the world, but they generally aren't the ones looking to have their pictures in the news. And if they do, it's for something positive/uplifting. I'm so very happy to have HERD in my life to perk up the rough spots and see clearly what can be accomplished with love and respect. Yes, you are right I'm afraid...there's way too much hatred in the world. Sadly enough to fill a very deep sinkhole. HERD has had a boatload of despair this year. As hard as it's been for the subscribers, it's almost unfathomable how those at HERD have been affected. I'll never forget that video with Adine after Phabeni passed. Just tore most of us up. But, I'm determined things are going to get better soon...some would probably call me a Pollyanna!! 😉 As a dear friend of mine used to say, "This too shall pass!" Take good care of yourself, dear friend. 🐘🩷🫂🍁🍂

Hello dear Susan! Extreme weather conditions, natural disasters worldwide. Recently, floods in Europe, then devastating hurricanes in Florida, severe drought in southern Africa, heavy floods in Southeast Asia (Elephant Nature Park in Thailand completely destroyed).😭 I am also sending prayers to everyone involved, both humans and animals.🙏 Here, I'm completely broken. Imagine, my dear friend, all 8 cygnets have died, only the parents survived.😳😱😡 One day there were one less, the next day even fewer, then I saw the conservationists taking away the last carcass in a bag.😭😡 BIRD FLU! It's pandemic, almost all continents are affected, North America, Asia too. Lots of poultry to slaughter (cull?).😢 It is spread by wild birds but many tigers have also perished. I just hope you are well, dearest Susan! Take care! Sending big hugs, blessings!🖤🦢💔🥀🐘🐯🍀🧦⛑️🩺🩻🫂🙋🏻♀️
@@Dnvr8083 Sorry my reply is so late. I was answering you and all of a sudden I lost everything. My dear sweet Agnes, you must be completely gutted! What a shock..could barely believe my eyes when I read your comment. I have been reading about the bird flu; having terrible time in Australia with the chicken population especially. That's the main reason I don't buy fresh farm eggs. Some of these diseases mutate and cross into other populations. Hadn't heard about tigers..that's scary. I hope the parents continue to survive. Perhaps the youngsters immune systems weren't fully developed. I think of how often you mentioned them and the joy they brought you. ENP is on my mind as well. Many of those rescues had a 'life' for the first time. And it somehow seems even more cruel that the one ellie lost was blind.😢 So much sadness and devastation this year in particular. I think it hits harder since we get news so fast nowadays that you can barely take a breath before the next thing. My prayers are with you dear heart...know that. You're probably in bed now; wish I'd seen your message sooner. It's 52°F here at 6:10 pm. Been windy lately and not much rain; red flag + 1 warnings for any burning. Our trees are turning.. the soft maples are so pretty. Wish we lived closer so I could give you a strong hug, but this will have to suffice 🫂🫂 Here's hoping you can rest after all this sadness. Hugs and love always.🐘🩷🧦🍁🙋♀️🌶🤓🐦🫶🙏🐿🦋🦢🐅🕊
@@susanfeneley Ah, my Susan, your reply is not late at all! You are the dearest!!!🥰❤️🙏🫂 I really hope the 🦢parents will be fine permanently. You are right, the chicks' immune system was not yet developed enough. This is so very sad because their character was already visible, they were almost as big as their parents, they were beautiful big birds.💖🦢🦢🦢🦢🦢🦢🦢🦢💖 Conservationists have already marked them with identifiers on the legs. It might also have been a problem that it is a rather small reservoir and perhaps too many different birds lived on it. Once in July, I counted 300 ducks napping under a tree in the shade.😅🦆🦆🦆And that wasn't all. Too many animals in a small space is never healthy. The case of tigers is special. These were tigers kept in Vietnamese zoos, which had been feeding the meat of sick chickens. ENP's loss is unfathomable. They wrote that they have managed to collect 10,000 USD in donations to date. Apart from the animals that fell victim, the whole area is covered by massive mud and so many tree fragments, wich the whole park could be rebuilt from. Only the decontamination will take months. Many of their vehicles had been washed away by the current, the medical equipments and supplies had been completely destroyed, I think also the kitchen, where the food was prepared for the animals and maybe also the accommodation for the tourist volunteers. Everything has to be rebuilt, meanwhile the hundreds of animals, including the large and partially handicapped elephants, are in a temporary place, they have to be taken care of.
@@susanfeneley My dear friend, I don't know if you have seen Lek in the news there, when she found the lifeless bodies of the two precious elephants lying on their stomachs among the many broken branches on the river bank, after the water had receded. This sight is said (at least in our country) to be burned into one's retina forever. She was hugging them, caressing them, kissing them and crying desperately.😨😭😱 It was an extremely sad sight. The death of a beloved animal is sad anyway, especially in such horrible circumstances. Yes Susan, we are bombarded with a lot of horrible news, the problem is that the human brain's trauma processing capacity falls short of this volume and speed. It probably wouldn't hurt to hold a news detox sometimes but it's quite difficult to implement this in practice. Dearest Susan, thank you so much for your heartfelt, comforting lines and virtual hugs, I really appreciated them!🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️ It's really a shame that we don't live close to each other. Take care my dear friend! Sending you big hugs too and wishing a peaceful night!🌶🐘🦢👭🫂🫂🍁🍁🍀🧦🌜🌠🙋🏻♀️
Thank you Thank you Thank you. After listening to so many tragic events happening today, it was so lovely to watch these magnificent elephants. They have the ability to add joy and comfort in an otherwise troubled world. So, when the seasons change and the green plants have become brown to rest during the fall and winter season, can the Herd survive on the brown foliage or do you provide them a supplement food?
@@Vicki1951 Yes, every evening when the herd returns to the Homestead, they each have their own big bundle of branches, Bana grass and Lucerne. I believe 3 times a week HERD provides them with cabbages. At times HERD also purchases other vegetables and fruits for them, although there are some very generous local companies that donate the same to our Jabulani herd. They will never go hungry, thank goodness. 🐘🍊🍇🍉🍎🍏🫒🥦🥕🍌

I swear every time a new video comes out , that Khanyisa is getting bigger !! I think she will become one of the larger female ellies in the HERD. 3:30 with their ability to smell all these things even long after they have been eaten, why is no other HERD elephant going to compete with Khanyisa for the milk and sweet potatoes? Khanyisa gets to enjoy these treats without any challenge. is that typical elephant nicety or is their exemplary behaviour the result of good upbringing within the HERD reserve because everyone is content with the food and water supply? 🙂
@@embreis2257 Khanyisa is still in the process of being weaned. She doesn't receive as many bottles as before. Adine and the Carers will keep a close eye on her as the process goes forward, but they want to make sure she's getting all the nutrients necessary as the milk and treats are slowly withdrawn.
How nice of you for being so kind and caring, thanks for the very heartwarming feedback.
Thanks for the lovely walk just love the HERD and watching Khanyisa drinking her bottle and eating goodies ❤️❤️🐘🐘!!

We share your sentiments Susan, 🙏🙏🙏🙏.
Hello dear Susan! Extreme weather conditions, natural disasters worldwide. Recently, floods in Europe, then devastating hurricanes in Florida, severe drought in southern Africa, heavy floods in Southeast Asia (Elephant Nature Park in Thailand completely destroyed).😭 I am also sending prayers to everyone involved, both humans and animals.🙏
Here, I'm completely broken.
You are the dearest!!!🥰❤️🙏🫂
I really hope the 🦢parents will be fine permanently.

Ah, to be a pampered princess. Khanyisa really loves being doted on by Adine and Herman. And Timi is standing by waiting for her little sister to finish her milk and sweet potatoes. This baby is truly surrounded by so much love and attention. And it's nice to see the women powerhouse side by side by side, the dominant female, the matriarch, and the matriarch-in-training. Mambo and Zindoga are being peaceful and calm today. It seems sparring is not included in today's activities for these two young bulls. Thank you for the update about Fishan and for finding ways to ensure his comfort, Adine. I hope the laser therapy would really help relieve his pains. I really love days with the herd, even if I can only join them virtually. God Bless These Beauties And HERD.🙏🐘❤
Khanysia,is a big baby african elephant, she drinks her milk bottles.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🐘🍼
Oh my goodness 🔆 this would be Heaven for me ❣️
Good morning from Brazil ❤️💝

I’m going to miss watching Khanyisa drink her bottles when she’s weaned. You can see how much she enjoys them. Thank you for the update on Uncle Fish. He is a favorite of mine. Praying you get rain soon!
Thanks for your lovely feedback.
Khanyisa enjoys delicious breakfast 😃💕🥔🥔🍼🐘. Thank you for the reformation of Fishan's situations 🐘❤. Good evening from the Nordic countries ❤🌇
Hi my dear sister! The weather conditions are very extreme all over the world, there are many disaster areas these days. Everything, from severe drought to devastating tornadoes and typhoons happens. Unfortunately, epidemics caused by viral diseases do not stop even among animals. Imagine, dear Anita, our residential community is completely broken because 8 large, cute, almost independent cygnets living on the lake next to our apartment building, born in March-April, have died almost overnight from BIRD FLU.😭😱😡 Only the two parents survived. Unfortunately, this is a global epidemic, affecting many other animal species as well.🥺
I just hope you are well, dearest Anita! Sending you big hugs and have a peaceful night!🖤💔🦢🥀🌛🌠🫂🙋🏻♀️
@@Dnvr8083 Dear sister 💞. That is true, there are a lot of disasters around the world 😢😢! I am very sorry, cygnets passed away 😨😢😭. You love animals, like me. Thank you, i am well. I hope you are well💞. I sending you big hugs, and have a peaceful night 🫂🙏🌟🌠🙋♀.
@@anitasyvalahti1730 Thank you, my dear sister, otherwise I am also fine, only the death of these 8 cute, beautiful birds has taken a toll on me, as well as the death of those two precious rescued elephants, which was caused by the powerful flood that completely destroyed Elephant Nature Park in Thailand.💞🌜🌠🫂🙋🏻♀️
@@Dnvr8083 It is also very sad! to hear, these elephants, in Thailand 😥😭🥀🐘🐘💔❤️❤️
Hello from Hoedspruit, South Africa, Anita.
Thank you for the updates on the herd members :) I enjoy getting to know them a little better each time :) I also enjoy getting to hear from and about our two-legged herd members too :)
Thanks for you lovely feedback, all the best with identify the herd.
Khanyisa is so big now ❤
WOW !! Look at the height/ size of our Precious Pink Princess. ( unless Herman has shrunk😁)
Must be all the special milk, love and care she gets. Thank you all at HERD. 🐘🐘🐐🐐👍👍💖💖🥰🥰
@@susycavaleiro1265 Isn't it amazing?! And as small as she is next to the bigger ellies, it's impressive to realize she's over 2,000 pounds!! Imagine what she'll look like at 25 or 30 years of age. Unfortunately, I won't be around to see that, but I simply enjoy all her sweet funny ways now! Such a character. 🐘🩷
You are right! 🍼🐘🩷.
What a great look at the elephants.
Love the early morning perambulation!
@susangrant7544 😂😂
😊was ihr dort macht ist großartig danke 😊
Thank you Inge.
She is still only 5, and Timisa is the next oldest at about 8 or 9. And we all know Khanyisa is slightly spoiled so it wouldn't surprise me if she gets goodies for a bit longer!!🤗 All the ellies get branches, Bana grass and Lucerne every evening at the Homestead. Plus I believe they receive cabbages 3 times a week, plus other vegetables and fruits usually donated by several very generous local companies. They will never go hungry or want for excellent care.😁
@@susanfeneley yet we all know dogs, cats and other well cared pets forgetting their full belly when it comes to treats - in particular when they witness other animals getting some and jealousy about food instinct kicks in.
we have watched Khanyisa having milk bottles placed in her path back to the homestead when the HERD trots back home in the evening. the other elephants must know what's in there, they smell it, they see it. why is nobody trying to get to the milk ahead of Khanyisa?
@@embreis2257 When Khanyisa first was getting bottles out with the herd, a couple of the older cows (forgot just who) wanted a taste to see what Khanyisa was being fed. Apparently they approved and knew she was a baby needing milk. There were a few times when Timisa wanted some treats and I think she might have pinched a few. Guess they know she needs extra at this point in her life. Very intelligent beings. Hopefully someone from HERD will see this and have a better answer. 🐘🍁
@embreis2257: - Oh some have definitely tried, but we encourage them not to, as elephants can get possessive over their food and even butt heads over it. We have posted 2 TH-cam links depicting this, should you wish to peruse it. th-cam.com/video/HsZrlCdOnuQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=mjSrofZ_j_YB0YZq and @ 09:52 onwards th-cam.com/video/6xdUVxe4YTA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ue62yBjZAUONA9Nk
@@herdelephantorphanage thank you very much for the links. very kind. Adine decided it better to give Lundi some leftover drops - probably better this way than denying it completely.
the other clip with more than 19m views and almost 7,400 comments had a different vibe. it sounded as if the carers needed to raise their voices. does that even help with elephants? or do you communicate more with gestures or very low pitch noises?
Thank you for all you do for the elephants! Oh my goodness Khanyisa and her bottles, priceless. Sending much love to HERD! Enjoyed our morning walk together!!! suzanne USA
