Crazy how a guy can slam nice fish in multiple outings, riding high confidence, and all as it takes is 1 slow day to humble us that mother nature still can beat us anytime. Good to see that you're never afraid to show the struggles. These times make the big wins worth all the effort ! Regardless, great content!
Hey Clayton! That breakdown montage really makes me appreciate all the work you do to bring these world class ice videos to us! Moving is tough even when your as dialed as you are! Thanks again!
I often get stuck going where I know I can catch fish. It is nice to see you exploring and learning. I am always feel accomplished when I go on a wild goose chase and am successful. good video
Even Clayton is bound to have a slow day every ONCE and a while! That's been the story of my winter ice fishing here in Alberta. The up and down weather has really messed with the winter ice fishing this year! Keep up the great work Clayton!
@@ClaytonSchickOutdoorsI much prefer videos of the details that happens before the fishing ever starts. The set up , the ride, the packing, the chat before or voice overs. Suppose its the journey vs destination debate. Nice seeing the area, people and site seeing of others backyards. I find once fishing starts, I get bored watching.
It's very cool to get info on how to catch fish when it's tough going. Anyone can catch when the bite is on. And great info on burping Lakers. I like the live well and let them recover themselves.
Loved this search video and I’d love to see another great Cisco video! Maybe showing how to find them? Love ya Clay! Thanks for the entertainment and knowledge
Reminds me of the morning of our Kickerfish tourney. We were around all the teams 1-5 and we didn’t mark any fish. By the time we got on them they had been stung already. We ran outta battery shortly after lunch. It was a gong show of a day. Lots was learnt. We are in the final and hopefully will do better. Keep the content coming my man! Absolutely love everything you put out.
Clayton - you need to try the Deep Freeze One Shot Skimmer. You had about 20 scoops with your Rapala scoop to clean one hole. While the One Shot may actually take 2 or 3 passes but it’s very efficient. Plus it’s pivoting fold flat design packs nicely.
Slow day but some great tips on picking potential fishing spots. If you can nail down where the most likely spots are at the correct time of day, then of course moving lots becomes a nonissue.. Accurate mapping is key!
Going up to Northern Maine this weekend to film a video, gonna be using what I learned from this video to hopefully slam some Lakers. Keep up the good stuff my guy
Great video as usual. I appreciate that you showed what type of structure you fish with a topographical map such as angler;s edge/avenza. I would like to see this included in more videos, I think it is very usual for beginning angler's to have an idea of what time of structure to look for on a map.
Frying any fish skin on is great if you get the skin crunchy. IMO the skin always has the most flavour. Flavour on fish is love it or hate it so some people will love the skin and some people will say it’s to fishy.
Ice fishing is done in Upper Michigan.. crazy weather this year! It was 60° during the day and that night turned to 7°. I know you tried the jack-knife jig... did you like it? I know I do... alot more range of motion for my minnow.. ended up getting a 17 inch large mouth bass through the ice😊 so fun! 😊
Hey “Donkey” would you fish in the same deep spots in the winter where you would fish in the summer or do you like shallower spots in the winter. And do you bleed your lakers that you keep to eat ? Thanks Scott Dodds Emsdale Ontario
Just came back from my first time there.. bucket list item, especially if you stay at the resort. Great fishing, great people.. you won't be disappointed
I’ve really tried to streamline my setup this year to make moving spots less work. It’s so easy to stay put (particularly when it’s cold) when you should be looking for more cooperative fish.
Hi Clayton, I noticed you carry your rods on the side of the rack on the sled. How do you keep rods from falling out, and have you ever lost a handle or rod by doing it that way?
I have never lost any, or any handles, but I have had friends lose handles. I also only carry them on there time to time. Usually for my long drives out they will still go in the rod box, then for short moves I use that to transport them. :)
Even a slow day is better than my any day! It was 18 degrees yesterday, 16 the day before and -20 today.. hard to know if I'll be ice fishing or nothing anymore
With rainbows i like to eat them with the skin on, Just gotta descale them first. super good wrapped in tinfoil butter onion lots of seasoning and throw it on the Bbq or coals by the fire
Hey Clayton, how do you transport your long ice rods? I'm currently looking for a rod case to hold my 45" drama queen from frostbite and a couple of 43" ice rods. Any good suggestions?
🤔🤔 not sure how that could be a favourite ice scoop, doesn't look like it would make a very good throttle lever replacement🤷♂️🤣🤣.. another great video. Goes to show, sometimes you need to be flexible and don't need to be tied to one spot.
@@ClaytonSchickOutdoors for sure weird weather… weird ice, snow etc. Thanks for all the amazing vids and advice. Definitely learnt a thing or two from them
Hey Clayton, I noticed you putting your dead minnow on, can you demonstrate how you do that? Do you go threw the eye and then hook threw the body? Always enjoy your content, thanks!
Clayton, do you ever cook burbot for lunch? I would appreciate a catch clean cook for them if it's something you have done. Always heard they are tasty if prepared correctly.
Clayton can you link the gold spoon you were using and have had luck with, i see a lot of similar stuff in stores, but i know small differences can make a huge difference with performance

I use the otter rod case. It’s 48”. It’s bulky but transport is awesome with it.

We wet down our rainbows and toss em in some fish fry and right into the pan skin and all. After cooked spine and all the bones pull out.
