Rich, I'm one of the biggest Nas fans and your instrumental fits well with the illmatic rapper's vocals. :)
Keep making those hot beats, man.
I must correct you @ 2:50 you proclaim that I will see the difference, when in actuality we all know that the human eye cannot see faster than 24 FPS.
will scalpers affect the market again? or is there a prevention, as i'm in the uk and the limited edition only for the usa for some reason
Aren’t you 60 years old?
As an early adopter, this is so tempting; especially the limited edition clear model. I'll just hold out and wait for the eventual Steam Deck 2. Such an impressive update though.
Lmao, it’s a good update and Digital Foundry showed that there is enough there to warrant an upgrade for those who want it, but to call it impressive, whilst still being weaker than the ROG Ally is serious simp behavior.
Steam Deck is an awesome device, but this is merely just a mid gen refresh.
As a day 1 adopter who imported the Deck, I am in no rush to get this like I was in the rush to get the Deck when it was first announced.
Deck 2 is most likely waiting on RDNA 4 being a thing
@@cbgg1585 nah your the rog simp you just don't get the advantages deck has over it and there are many.
@@cbgg1585rog ally is terrible
Waiting for deck 2
Gabe is a genius I've only spent money on steam twice in two years and both of those purchases were steam decks
…what? That doesn’t make sense? Why buy two Steam Decks if you don’t buy games for them?
@@martinidream100They probably have a backlog built up from before. But other than Steam, there's also emulation.
@@martinidream100 steam is a 20 year old digital market place for games
It doesn't really take a genius to figure out that people like OLEDs more than LCDs. Just sayin'.
I think Gabe wants you to spend money on games on Steam too lol
As someone who's a console gamer and who's had the Steam Deck for 4-5 months, I'm so excited to be getting the Steam Deck OLED.
I'm just glad that Steam is really putting a lot of effort into their tech.. Moreso than they did with some of their earlier stuff.
They didn't succumb to their failures. They learned from them.
Take note Sony. This is how you do hardware iterations in regards to pricing. You don't offer less and charge more.
Valve knows their stuff when it comes to good hardware. But I might just hold off for now. I'm perfectly satisfied with my current Steam Deck which I have docked to my TV usually. The next generation of hand held PCs are going to be absolute beefy monsters. Imagine if they become upgradable just like a regular PC
I'm holding off as well, even though it is really good due to FF7 Rebirth.
I still don't have a PS5 and I can't wait for 2 years for it to be released on Steam.
By that time though, I am looking forward for the Steam Deck 2 OLED with Strix Point APU 🤭
@@rcvillapando Sorry, is FF7 Rebirth (That's Remake Chapter/Part 2, yes?) just on PS5?
Prob is battery life is absolutely terrible on these things
It's not a good idea to keep it docked like a switch because then it's just a PC, and you can get much better PCs than the steam deck...
@@NOMOREDEI What are you guys doing to make it terrible? Mine lasts at least 7.
Sold my Deck after a year or so just because I couldn't get used to how bad the screen was. That was really the only problem I had with it. So excited for this!
Yeah the screen was the weakest part of the system. Having a OLED screen is what I always wished it would have and I wasn't sure if we'd ever get it.
@MrDjBigZ nope, it's an objectively bad screen, and the tests prove it.
@MrDjBigZ your subjective opinion doesn't change the fact that it's an objectively bad screen. There are lots of people that are perfectly accepting of the screen, that doesn't mean that it's any good at all, that jusy means those people have low standards.
I hope they just straight up let us buy it and have to go through that preorder queue business. Or better yet, distribute the system at retail stores. You can buy ROG ally at any retail store.
Yeah well the Ally also has like a 20% return rate lol, so many of them popped up as open box as Best Buy for good reason.
Same with the legion go. They are both easy to get
Not any retail store, just Best Buy and microcenter.
There's no pre-orders and it ships same week.
I do now want the OLED Steam Deck 😄
oled modded vita better
I was not psychologically, mentally or physically prepared for the intro😂😂😂
Some decent updates but I’ll probably wait until the next iteration, Oled or not. This seems like the switch vs switch Oled, worthy to get if you’re a first timer, not so much for current owners unless you use the eff out of it.
I knew this was gonna happen so im glad i held off.
Richs British accent is dope
Since I already own a Steam Deck, I personally see no need to get the OLED. It's much like the Switch OLED in my opinion: If you already own the original, there's little reason to get the new one; but if you DON'T already have a Steam Deck then this is the perfect time to get one.
Pardon me, are OLED screens special? Like are they less fragile than whatever the current Switch/Steamdeck have?
@@Roadent1241 They're the same fragility, but yeah they're special. They're far, far, far, far, better looking. Way more colorful, and because each pixel is lit individually instead of all together via a backlight, the blacks on screen are literally black, as the black pixels are actually off.
@@Roadent1241 OLED screens are more fragile, but it shouldn't matter a lot in this example. The deck is far more robust than a bezel-less smartphone so the edges of the screen are fairly protected from shocks and drops.
The carrying case exists for a reason though
@@YounesLayachi I'm very good at cracking my screens just breathing on them, that's how fragile stuff is these days XD
I love the carrying case but a wrist strap would be great for when I'm actually holding the thing.
@@CaptainEffort Interesting. So it's just cosmetics, it doesn't actually do anything physically.
What they need to do is make more games compatible on the steam deck
@MrDjBigZ SHUT UP YES THEY DO!!!
anyone else unironically like rich's storytelling voice
A 1080P screen would have convinced me to buy another steam deck but since its still 720p I will just keep the one I got
I mean it's not like you would have been able to run many games in a good frame rate at 1080p anyways unless they were much older games or 2D Indi titles 720p still looks just fine at the screen size
I haven't even bought or played the original Steam Deck, yet.
Yet? It's not even 2 years old 😂
RTU is a man who doesn’t cry on live streams anymore. Keep it up brother! 👏🏾👏🏾
I have to give props to valve for being consumer friendly with the release of the steam deck and the steam store. They are truly putting other competition to shame. Makes the ps5 slim look like a joke in terms of a system refinement/refresh. The price is fair, the pros are upgrades that were needed. I want to support this but I’m broke, so here’s a comment to share how much I love valve.
I hope it has better performance too...
Nope, just better battery and a better screen. Cpu will be the same.
It has a slight boost of performance. not major, but it does have a slight bump.
Faster memory, so a little bit. Maybe like a DSi or new 3ds
And like the original Steam Deck, I still can't get my hands on one down under. Even though I covet one more than my next breath. And as for this one... I want one as well.
thinking about ordering one as a birthday gift for myself. Never had a steam deck before.
Wow, pretty tempting. Battery life has been the main issue with these handhelds, and this is surely going to make a huge impact, and the OLED screen on top of that just puts this in a league of its own. The ONLY reason I personally wouldn't get this device is because I absolutely hate how incompatible the Steam Deck is with games from other launchers. I have a pretty sizable GOG library, and when I had the OG Steam Deck, it barely ran any of the games from GOG. Even games that I double dipped on would act funny, working perfectly if bought from Steam, but not at all if bought from GOG. I really didn't like that. I opt to buy games from GOG whenever I have the option, so this is a no go for me, but this is definitely going to be cool for everyone else.
I haven't tried all my GOG games but doesn't Heroic Launcher fix that though?
@@tuanld91 yes the launcher ain't perfect, but still i played a lot of EGS games on there, the problem is GOG and epic, etc, lack of contribution on linux thoe.
@@tuanld91 Heroic is exactly what I'm talking about. When I had a Steam Deck, barely anything ran on it from my GOG library. I installed about 20 of my GoG games and only 2 of them ran.
I’m wondering if we can buy the OLED battery and install that on the original steam deck. It might not be fully compatible but let’s see. I know this is a refresh of the steam deck but honestly the battery life is the only issue I have with the original steam deck.
Cool, but I'm waiting on the Steam Deck Pro. I hope Rich says it's 100% confirmed soon!
Steam Deck 2 is going to be the next device that released and that's still at least a couple years out valve specifically said they're waiting for the technology to advance enough to justify a generational upgrade and that will be the steam deck 2
Have fun waiting for 2025 or later.
When they do, I hope the oled screen is included. Wonder if oled might be a completely separate line of decks.
Still outdated performance tho, rog and the legion is still the way to go personally
@@OTDECKbetter off getting a laptop
I skipped the current Steam Deck because of its battery life and screen. Now I'm excited for this new model! Probably gonna take me a long time to afford it tho. Can't say that I really need it... I just want it.
Rich have you ever thought about making your intros a shorts on shorts? I love some of these bits with the birds the trump ball and this one.
OLED Birds
Just in time when I am considering getting one now :)
Portable gaming needs to be the future!! Not cloud gaming
Ill only buy a new deck if it has significantly better performance.
0:13 reminds me of that scene at the end of Night of The Living Dead when Ben has a breakdown after finding the key to the gas...
I bought a steam deck a few months ago and have no issues with it, so I won't be picking this up. Love the improvements tho!
Channel called Review Tech USA finally reviews some tech 🎉
The future of steam deck looks very bright. Thank you
It's on the list lol...glad I held out, this looks to be a big improvement :)
I’m waiting for the Ambernic 35xx oled. 🤔
*Rich's maniacal laugh is scary!!*
Finally, some good feckin' news! was getting sick of the negatives.
I'm glad they seem to be getting rid of the 64GB Model as the memory used is slow. The 512GB is now the low-end OLED with 4+ hours of Battery Life, with the high-end being 1TB.
So it turns out I my mid-end 256GB Model is now the only standard Steam Deck option... but it still has worth due to it's price-point in comparison.
Damn they're gonna get me with the 90HZ
I'm dying to get a steam deck, just if I had a job. Been out of work for a while now sadly.
I felt this way when I wanted a switch, grateful to be working a job today
@@doovplayz I'll get there soon bro.
@@morris89swe I’m rooting for you. Now I gotta figure out how to trade in my current steam deck for the new one, I need that better battery 😩
@@doovplayz Thanks buddy. I don't know what one would do to trade in a steam deck since you can only buy them at steam I believe.
@@morris89swe I might just buy another one honestly
This is great news. Im gonna skip the oled and maybe see what the steam deck 2 has to offer, as my ROG Ally has me covered for now. I really hope steam os for desktop gets released soon.
Pretty sure the new steam deck still isn't 120hz too
@Tipman2OOO thought i heard it was 90 so still a huge improvement but not up to my ally yet. Although without an updated apu no need for 120 in many cases
Fellow ROG Ally user here and feel the same
@@Tipman2OOO 120 Hz is completely counterproductive on a handheld pc.
Not enough battery or performance to drive it, at least not today.
@@YounesLayachiagreed.
Glad I waited I’ll get this one now
0:13 Evil DarkStalkers laugh.👍😨
Rich, top tier British monolgue very majestic! 😂
My biggest concern is that they labeled the Steam Deck OLED as "Limited Edition". This makes me think they won't continue making more of them. I hope that the "Limited Edition" label is nothing more than marketing.
It's not limited edition.
Limited edition is the special transparent shell with red accents, and it's only temporarily limited as an experiment.
SD Oled is not limited
@@YounesLayachi Oh ok, thanks for clarifying because I was concerned. Lol
I will so be getting one now. I do agree that an OLED screen is awesome but I just wanna get the Steam Deck at a good price.
I mean you can they've been readily available for over a year now and you can buy them used for pretty cheap as well Valve will be selling out the old gen models that a discounted price you can get a base model for 350 although I wouldn't recommend it since you can probably find a base model used for closer to 300
You should still get the OLED, the battery life is a big deal and even though people say they don't care about OLED, they just don't know.
Hope it more lightweight too!!! Yeaaaah
I already own a handheld with a 7840U, but if I didn't buy it yet, or if they came out back in June, I'd definitely get it
I completely lost it with that intro! Jesus, XD
Please don't stop Rich! Do you need to go for Coffee? You always crack me up with these intros of yours! :) I instantly like and I've been subscribed for over a decade but if I could subscribe again I would. Retail horror stories and dating horror stories are a particular highlight too. That and the tomboy from that video game show that said women are not for men to look at. LOL. Please don't stop! Let's get that coffee... :)
0:14 bro 😂😂
Praise Gaben he has answered my prayers for an oled steam deck now I cannot wait to drop 650 dollars on this and forget about the insane prices on oled tvs and monitors, cpu and gpu prices, and triple a games that need ridiculous system requirements. Praise Gaben
The 1tb model is the SAME price I paid for the original 512gb model! OF COURSE I'm gonna buy it. I though it was gonna be more expensive like $750-$800 but no. SAME PRICE (that it was at launch, obviously the old models got price drops)
Rich became Heisenberg for a second there lol.
well I'm happy I held out
Glad I held off! This seems more tempting…
I got the "small" version of the first generation and this is quite tempting...
I'd buy one if they actually sold them here in Australia.
You buy it online, you know? We did from the UK. Came from the Netherlands but it only took a week, very surprising because we expected a month.
@@Roadent1241 Yeah i know about that of course but the problem I had with the first steam deck was they had that wait list on steam etc for it then it was hard even finding anyone who sold it to deliver world wide at least at the time.
have to agree, my biggest issue with the current Deck is the screen. Not the oled part, moreso the ridiculously large bezel. But I'll take it!
I was hoping for specs upgrade
This is the first time I been hella early for a vid and I’m glad I stayed for the chicken
Hey Rich you have a booger in your nose
Rich: he’s just hanging out
I loved that intro😂😂
Steam deck oled. I need that.
I'm not sure if I should be salty after buying on during the sale 2 months ago or be happy of the future of the Steam Deck, I guess both. I wish I could switch it out now lol.
It's a new thing, so nobody could have known for sure that sales and refurbs hinted towards a refresh soon after ...
But if you plan to keep your deck for long time (3 years), and if you find a way to get most of your money back on your current deck, and if you're ok waiting a couple months (?) to get the new one...
Lots of ifs.
I just want one that fits in my pocket
Effective immediately
Here in Australia we still don't have the regular steam deck
Brah, don't bust out, rich!
while i think the new steam deck is tempting, i will wait for the eventual steam deck 2
since they said they don't have the tech for a full blown upgrade, so when it happens i will upgrade
I’m currently looking for a handheld gaming device. What your opinion on what I should buy? Price is no concern. Thanks
i want a steam deck with a crt tv built in
Steam deck 2 better be called steam double decked or i will riot
this is amazing news and i want one lol must save up
Gabe and Valve are are really getting me on board the steam deck express-the better battery life and performance is a huge selling point for me!
The Nintendo Switch is my Main Console because you can it use for both portable gaming and normal gaming on the TV.
You can do that with this too, you can link it up to a screen. It's just chaotic to make it fit XD
Impressive for sure.
This is HUGE!
Make sure to buy it cause I’m not until 2027 when they release the Steam Deck 2 that’s more powerful that can run the next gen games that’s in 2027
Great video Rich 👍🏻
I wonder if Valve will offer trade ins.
That intro was cursed asf
At this point it's like, wait until the final version of a game console is made before you buy it...
1. What the f is HDR2?
2. The Steam Deck is a year plus already?!
3. Sounds more like a pro version than what Nintendo did with their OLED iteration.
What are the sales numbers of the Steam Deck? It's been out for a while where are the official numbers?
Steam has a hit and there taking advantage of it am glad I love my steam deck playing my games on the go and some retro games
The pressure is real on nintendo, portable gaming systems are launching at raging speed.
Thanks!
Man who didn't they send a deck to, to gush over.
Sony "was" ahead of everyone with the vita, although game performance was up to the game dev
0:39 The Steam Deck came out in 2022, but continue!
You ALL should by this refresh model, so when the hardware upgrades are there with OLED are cheaper because of it I can buy that model.
Go forth Gabaneers :D
Hmm, I dunno. The OLED upgrade sounds nice, but I don't really know if I feel like spending the money. I will say I could get it and then swap in my current 2 TB SSD and 1TB Micro SD card, and I wouldn't even have to do much setup otherwise which would be nice.
I’m thinking of getting a 1tb card for my switch
@@DawayneBuffin-ho5mn SanDisk now has a 1.5 TB card in the Ultra series for about $150. You might go with that instead. Only downside is that it's not available in the Extreme or Extreme Pro series which are faster cards, but for the Switch it shouldn't be much of an issue I wouldn't think. I'd definitely go for that to give you just that extra bit of storage.
I winterized Gabe Newell's sprinkler system before
PUT WINDOWS ON THAT BI
Scalpers start your engines 😈
I do want to note that Valve directly credited Nintendo for helping to make handheld OLED systems far more manageable to make and produce. I would agree with Rich that if you *somehow* do not already have a Switch or you were considering the Switch OLED as an upgrade this late that you're better off just waiting until the Switch 2 happens, but if you don't have a Steam Deck that OLED model is looking *mighty* sexy.
If I had more safe-to-use cash, I would've pounced on that OLED pre-order. That's just gonna have to wait for now, though.
