      Press handstand is about folding the body and balance with a good middle split.

    This is going straight into my girls daily plan to get them all back on track after lockdown. Press handstand understanding would be fab please. Why can some gymnasts get them whilst others always struggle. Thank you for your geekness it allows you to share your knowledge 🤸‍♀️💪😊

      Sounds like a great thing to add and we can definitely get a press handstand one together! Can tram up with some of our friends at Power Monkey Fitness 👌

    Thank you for demystifying the science behind splits!! I've been looking for someone to break down the different components of the split and the muscle groups and how they interact, and your video answers that PERFECTLY.
    I do have a question: How do you find someone who can do these flexibility screenings?

    Can you do a video where you explain the different types of stretching (eg eccentrics), when they are useful and appropriate? I feel like I'm missing a lot of the more basic terminology. I'm a trampoline coach and participant and we never went over any of this type of terminology in our coaching courses

    • @shiftmovement
      @shiftmovement  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sure thing Nicola! The geeky terms are a lot to wrap you’re head around and we can definitely cover this in a future video 👌

    Do you have one about knee pain? I understand this is common among young gymnasts and I imagine that strengthening and increasing the flexibility the muscles around the knee would help relieve this.

    I am a Physio student and find these sooo useful! We do a lot around working in hospital and I struggle around the high level MSK stuff. The way you break everything down really helps. I would love to hear your opinion on when athletes injure themselves in competition/training how you decide if they’re ok to keep going? Sometimes it’s difficult when they’re putting on a brave face in front of their team. Thanks again!

    This is great information but quick question, where would you take a gymnast to get a screening like this to tell us what is truly going on? I am assuming that our Gymnastic Coach is not qualified to do this test so who should we ask to do this test? Want to make sure we ask the appropriate people but not sure if it is a Sports Medicine Doctor or PT? If you were closer I would request you! Thanks for always helping all of us out with all this very important information.

  • @mariebaumbach7345
    @mariebaumbach7345 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    really great! We're still in online training due to corona and doing those tests would be a little difficult because it would fall to the athletes or their parents to judge the results. but these excercises/ stretches are a great addition to our stretch program, especially if we can target them for our less flexible athletes

    • @shiftmovement

    Great video!!! I have a JO Level 7 gymanst. She has decent flexibility. I will use this video help her improve her strength and flexibility. You mention doing this 5-6 times a week. Would you still recommend that when the gymnast works out 16-20hours a week? She practices 4-5 days a week, 4+ hours/day. Thanks.

    • @shiftmovement
      @shiftmovement  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So glad you liked it! Happy to help. Yes, 5 to 6 days per week is with the research supports to increase range of motion when consistently doing stretching and mobility work.
      As for your question about training hours, it’s hard to weigh in specifically as there’s a huge range in with the content of those hours are.
      If there is great coaching, planning, communication, and efforts to make sure she is doing well, then I can be completely fine!
      Just have to keep an eye out how she was feeling and responding to training to stay ahead of any possible problems 👍

      @JeepGladiatorestAprilJTR 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@shiftmovement thanks for your quick response. As far as the content of the hours she trains, it’s pretty intense. Usually only has one snack break and when they walk to the next event. Other than that they are working. She maxes out on her Physical Abilities Testing! She’s very focused!

    Great video. I manage to open side split, but I can't do jump split. I just open 120 degrees. Should be nice to have some guide for the progression to get jump split. And second issue, could you talk about bridge? I'm totally unsuccessful with that. I have some shoulders flex, but my back is bad and I can't extend legs, and can't pass. Thanks for share!

    Thank you for this informative video.
    Unfortunately, I am not one of those naturally agile gymnasts. Insufficient splits amplitudes always cost me too much deduction in my exercises...
    I will integrate your tips and exercises into my training schedule so that the judges on my beam and floor exercise at the Tokyo games don't have to guess if that was a deduction of 3 tenths and not only 1 tenth.

    I am wondering who can do the test and diagnosis? Physical Therapist? Chiropractor? Physiologist? I have tried PT and it seems i am in the normal range but in order to do split, I am stuck at 90 degree. Try PNF and seem to help slightly. Do i need to take an X-Ray to see hip structure?

    I think mine is the sciatic nerve. But what can i do about this? I really want to get my splits and have been working at it for months to no avail. I’ve tried pnf stretching, static stretching, rolling my muscles out with a foam roller everything

    • @iamballfrog
      @iamballfrog 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You want to do some nerve glides. Check out his other video - th-cam.com/video/V7WYrw34QCc/w-d-xo.html. He probably has other videos on nerve gliding as well. Just make sure you don´t irritate it too much when doing the nervegliding. You just want to flirt with the sensation and increase the range og motion over time.

    I think the main reason I don't like this video is it is setup like I am sitting in a class room. After you watch this one should get a PHD in splits. Now I for one like less paper work and more solutions. Now this may be that other videos I have looked into this cover much of this by showing the positions and what these positions do.. That said some may find this video useful.
