I agree. I remember loving this album, listening to it all the time, but also being confused somehow. Ever heard the remake of 'If you were that velvet dress'. Think that's the name. U2 was still working out these songs. It's only in retrospect that I understand how ahead of it's time it was, and I liken it to Rattle and Hum. I think U2 goes through creative cycles, and this was a stage in that cycle, and yet, so unique in it's own. I had tickets to a concert that was canceled due to rain damaging the equipment. Radio stations were saying U2 was done.... were they ever wrong. I think it is a shame that tour was cut short.
I remember being there in 97 with my mum in Leeds had my hair dyed bright red so bono could see me and getting wet threw looked like a complete wet matchstick but it was worth it....Loud as but bloody brilliant🍋love U2xx
I love the way they cleaned up and simplified this song. Much to my surprise, discotheque kills live. "Pop" for me is one of U2's best albums and the last one where they really pushed creativity and innovation.
I don’t agree that Pop is one of their best albums but you’re right about it being the last one where they pushed creativity and innovation! They have played it pretty safe since! That said, I love Songs of Innocence and Experience!
@@dct1 I've heard it described as a night in the club. The first 3 songs are the party, the rest of the album is the hangover. Its some of the most potent personal lyrics. And then to end with Wake Up Dead Man... unreal. 90's U2 is an epic conscious. Achtung Baby into Zooropa (into Passengers?) the relapse with HMTMKMKM into Pop.... oh its the Sweetest Thing (lol)
On this day February 3 1997, U2 released this great opening track from their most underrated album🅿️🅾️🅿️ Lyrics..."a riddle about love"(Bono) Popmart tour🔝cool graphics, Badass version...that entrance 🍋was amazing...it had more from a 2097 than from 1997😉 As a Belgian, i am proud to say their costumes, inspired by the Village People on the Popmart tour were created by Belgian designer🇧🇪 Walter Van Beirendonck!😍 Wish they bring this fantastic song back again! ❤❤🎵🎶🎤🎸🥁
Septembar 1997,Sarajevo, a year after f..... war midden in Europe , a U2 Concert, pop mart tour... Bono gave us hope, brought light and normal life back .. Will never forget. Best Concert I ever was.
It's his band. You can tell he's not interested in all the paraphernalia. He just wants to play drums with his school friends. He grounds them. This is why they are the best band ever. 4 perfect individual ingredients making an amazing ONE.
I saw this show 'live', in 3 different cities, Edmonton, Vancouver & Seattle. (They played 2 shows in Edmonton. They came to 'Rock the Chuck', & that's exactly what they did.) I love the fact, that they did whatever it took to dress up a 60,000 - 100,000 person stadium, transforming the whole place into a disco hall. (Not that I'm a disco fan.) This was the spectacle that was U2 Live. A larger than life experience. 2nd to none.
I seen it Dublin there was sound issues at the gig. It looked great but if I had to pick a tour this is not my favourite .and the reason is simple u2 did not have the album to back it up
hahahahahhaha........................you are right best year of my life .....I wass ten years old hahahaah I don´t know why but wass great be ten that year
Thessaloniki,Greece,1997, can't forget U2 live appearence, specially that song when suddenly a soft paper made lemon has been changed to this huge metallic intrustion, moved about our heads and then these guys came out, absolutelly nuts!!!
Watching this for me is such a juxtaposition to the past. I first saw them in 1982 in a crowd of about 1500 people. Just 4 guys giving their all on a stage - no pryrotechnics, screen effects or laser shows. I miss that. Yet in a time where music has regressed, we need these guys more than ever.
You can reach, but you can't grab it. You can't hold it, control it You can't bag it. You can push, but you can't direct it Circulate, regulate, oh no You cannot connect it - love. You know you're chewing bubble gum You know what that is but you still want some. You just can't get enough of that lovey-dovey stuff You get confused, but you know it Yeah, you hurt for it, work for it, love You don't always show it - love. Let go, let's go, discothèque. Go, go, let go, discothèque. Looking for the one But you know you're somewhere else instead. You want to be the song The song that you hear in your head Love, love, love, love. It's not a trick, you can't learn it It's the way that you don't pay that's okay 'Cause you can't earn it - love. You know you're chewing bubble gum You know what that is But you still want some You just can't get enough of that lovey-dovey stuff Let go, let's go, discothèque. Go, go, go, go, discothèque. Looking for the one But you know you're somewhere else instead. You want to be the song The song that you hear in your head Love, love, love. pinche presentación de poca madre : hoy en día no me canso de ver este concierto espectacular son mi máximo u2 tenia un año de nacido cuando vinieron en el 97
Magnificent over the top extravaganza poking fun at the music industry..... materialism..... And most things that moved or spoke, wish I'd seen it live but for most of the 90's I was on heroin... happy days, and no lasting damage..... anyone seen my Emu?............I still think he steals from me....
Imagine if that monstrosity were a time machine, and they went back to the year 1850 something, landed in a camp full of hard ass bandits then strolled outside and started performing discotheque. Imagine how those hard ass bandits would react😁

Best era of electronic rock alternative dance, reached its peak with radiohead with kid a, rock or pop music did not have more significance in the popular because the electronics with the edm remained
i was going to leave a comment that this makes me want to listen to idioteque more than anything else. Now that i see that giant lemon i wonder if Thom was secretly poking fun of all this on Kid A
i was lucky enough and watched their concert in Lisbon and it was remarkable. And i agree with some comments around here...this song is actually underrated
Damn, I missed this tour & this is the first time I've ever seen this, but I cant help thinking there's an element of Spinal Tappishness to all of this, imagine if the Lemon had malfunctioned & they were caught inside ( a la the pod ), given that this tour was about poking fun at many things, I'm sure there must of been some ironic tongue in cheek humor & referencing regarding the Lemon !!! Very underrated album also but a good triptych together with Achtung & Zooropa ....
Haha, the lemon did malfunction a few times. It wasn't used in Sydney at all because of problems. In Oslo the band has to escape through a trapdoor, & in Osaka even this didn't work 😂
