I fucking love their drummer, hes not super showy or anything, just a nice drving beat that accents the song perfectly, definitely better than anything "Gareth Bull" could ever play.
Bummed by how math has become a monolith of self proclaimed "music nerd" who are really just brahs who mostly play a repetitive circular riff in something other than 4/4, throw in a fingertap, and title the song something nonsensical like "why...are goats eating cheese in my closet" just so they're branded "math". It reminds me of high school days when I refused to play a bar chord because I was afraid people would label me as weak. Just wish bands would quit diluting the math genre, get over the musical athleticism bs, and play something that means something to them. Not saying that's what's going on with this band but I've definitely seen it in local scenes and I get what ^this guy is saying.
Drummer does not stand out, or blend in... he just... Meh. Mr. Drummer, whoever you are, go listen to some Caravan and get yourself inside the music. You sounding like a spectator right now. Sure, those guitars. But. You can raise your game to be with em.
Yeah, no. The drummer isn't bad, but he's following the guitars almost entirely. The style and songwriting begs for a drummer that can fuck around with the rhythm instead of standard time keeping with the occasional hit with the guitar.
