      There are LHD version available as they were imported to Europe and Turkey. The Turkish version had a carburated engine. My idea is to get one of those and front clip from a JDM A31, get a RB25, Tomei parts including cams, dump the twins and get a nasty big single, also 6 speed conversion.

    These cars are really popular back home(Trinidad)...I remember my dad was going to buy one from a used car dealer and they wanted about TT$80.000...we also got another version that was badged "Laurel Altima"....those were over TT$200,000 brand new. They came with CA18, RB20 and RB25 engines...guys love to build and race these too...I know of one with a 2jz swap and another with an SR20 both pretty quick cars. Some guys use them as taxis too. Nissan took the unusual step of making a left-hand drive version of the Cefiro A31, sold in Latin America, Turkey and other Eurasian countries as a Nissan Laurel ALTIMA - in most export markets this slot was filled by the Nissan Maxima. Unlike the Japanese versions, export models are fitted with a carburetted single cam CA20S inline-four producing 102 hp (76 kW) and RB24 engine which was a single-cam 2.4-liter RB inline-six producing 141 hp (105 kW). Left hand drive Laurel Altimas was the flagship vehicle of Nissan's Turkish lineup for the early 1990s.

    Too bad the United States never had an american version of this car until the A33 Cefiro came along and we got the infiniti I30. But we all probably know by now that those are FWD.

  • @cool50uae
    @cool50uae 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    it does have a 'counterpart' , maybe not an American model but
    The cefiro A31 was exported to the middle east and some other parts of the world under the name of Nissan Laurel Altima with a 2.0 4 cylinder and a 2.4 l6 both carburetor engines.
    here in dubai we have got some serious JZ and RB cefiros pushing 1000+ hp, so yeah..

    A32/A33 Maxima is actually the American counterpart of the A32/A33 Cefiro, but unfortunately the maxima's got the VQ/FWD

    • @sinistersmallblock
      @sinistersmallblock 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, the 92-94 Maxima had the Father of the VQ, called the VE30. It's one of Nissans most rare engines. 190hp stock, where as the VG came with 130hp, and the VQ was 200hp.

      They made 1750 6.5's, 1000 for Japan and 500 were allocated to AUS/NZ and 250 for the UK. Australia wouldnt allow them to be imported so NZ got all 500. Then u add the ones that have been imported from Japan since. Heap have been turned into rally cars tho

    Great video David. As a japanese who has lived in Tokyo for 18 years, it does slightly irritate me when people who live outside of japan call their car or see a car 'JDM' just because its made by a japanese manufacturer. But in this case, this Cefiro is quintessentially a Japanese Domestic Model. Does this car slot beneath the Skyline saloons in the Nissan model range? I get confused as they're from similar eras, they're both RWD and both have straight 6 engines. Sorry, my knowledge is poor when it comes to Nissans

    • @Incurafy
      @Incurafy 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +JIMmusic You'll actually find answers to pretty much all of your Nissan questions on Wikipedia, the English articles at least are very detailed.
      As for where the Cefiro fits, from my understanding the Skyline series were primarily sports cars with the sedan being the oddball, the Cefiro was a family sedan with a bit more class then the Skyline and the Laurel was the top of the range luxury sedan.
      All three cars are based on the R chassis (R32 Skyline, A31 Cefiro, C32 Laurel) which is why they all shared the RB series of engines.

    • @smilepermile888
      @smilepermile888 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Incurafy Thanks for the reply. It must have been quite costly for Nissan to provide quite a variety of FR saloons in those days. I guess it could be said that the R chassis is above the S Chassis with 180sx/200sx/240sx/S13 Silvia.
