Dear Dom Sigalas, I would like to leave a TH-cam comment to praise your work as a sound designer. I have learned more from you in a few days than in over 20 years of using recording software, starting with Cool Edit and then Cubase. I sincerely want to thank you from the bottom of my heart and let you know that I will continue to follow you and eagerly learn from you as long as I live! Since the first time I stumbled upon your videos, I have felt that you are a true expert in the field of sound design. Your clear and detailed explanations have allowed me to deepen my knowledge and improve my skills in recording and music production. Not only do you have vast technical knowledge, but you also possess a great ability to convey information in a clear and understandable manner, even for someone like me who doesn't have a professional background in the field. Thanks to your tutorials, I have learned numerous tricks and techniques that have helped me achieve incredible results in my recordings. I have learned how to make the most of the features of my recording software and how to use effects to manipulate and enhance sound. Additionally, you have generously shared your "secret sauces" to add a unique touch to tracks and create that beloved 80s atmosphere. I also want to thank you for your commitment to sharing your knowledge and your dedication to responding to your fans' questions. I truly appreciate that you are willing to give your time and expertise to help others improve their skills in sound design. I will continue to be a loyal viewer of your videos and learn from you. You are a true source of inspiration, and I look forward to seeing what you have in store for us in the future. Thank you again for everything you do and for helping me pursue my dream of becoming a better music producer. Warm thanks and a big hug, Thomas Grotto,
Nice! As you showed, level-matching is a great way to make sure one's on the right track when doing serial compression and saturation. :D It's easy to be tricked into thinking something is better just because it's louder.
WOW! A true masterclass! I'm a complete noob, fearful of how to process vocals for a professional sound. Seriously, I teared up at the end from sheer delight of haven been given access to the knowledge and skill of an audio mixing/mastering master. Fascinating how each processing step adds its own nuance(s). Thanks so much, Dom. And, thank you as well to all the commenters sharing their take and experience. I suggest watching this multiple times to ensure it soaks in. Also, compare and contrast with other techniques, and BE SURE to watch Dom's "Gain State Like a Pro" video.
Super helpful, Dom. The stages give me so much more structure. Thank you! The only thing I’m doing different ist to set the parallel compression as a pre and set the routing of both the vocals and the parallel compression FX channel to a new bus. On this bus I’m automating the volume so the compression is stable. Also I’m sending reverbs from this bus. Beside that this is my new standard chain for vocals!
Whoa! Thank you! This is very cool :) I recorded for myself the order of effects from this video: Insert: 1. Channel strip or Analog Eq 2.Multiband Compressor 3.Compressor 4.LA-2A 5.Saturator 6.Pultec Eq 7.Multiband liner phase 8.Maximiser Send: 1. Compressor 76 2.Tape compressor 3.Tape doubler or wider 4.Delay 5.Reverb
I was asked by many people to make a video using Waves plugins. The techniques can be used with any other maufacturer's plugins or stock plugins. In actual fact, all the techniques are found now in Cubase's stock VocalChain plugin :)
I do lay on the beach in Scheveningen (The Netherlands) but I am looking forward to it Wishing you a beautiful Weekend Dom and all your followers. Thanks in advance for your tutorial
What a fantastic video. One of the best tutorials I’ve seen in a while. Always a good sign when it wants to make you get up and try what you’ve just watched immediately. So, thanks, gotta go, things to try!
It's always impressive to see a great chef in his kitchen. Here in Hungary we don't hesitate on the paprika... in any case this video is very appetizing.
Have to say thanks for your videos, they really are transforming how i work/use cubase. I've used your vocal techniques from a few videos on my latest track and it's getting great feedback, the manual de essing tutorial was great, same as the vari audio tutorial. Great stuff. Just wanted to say thanks!
Thank you so much Dom! This tutorial is excellent, and it comes at exactly the right time. What a great sounding voice and song, absolutely gorgeous. :)
You know when you spend a while mixing a vocal, and you are almost happy with it, then Dom drops a video like this and it is back to the drawing board!!! Now to duplicate my vocal, try these steps and compare (and possibly blend???)
I enjoyed this video and was waiting for the right moment to buy what is listed here and black Friday deals made it possible, I am a proud owner of these plugins and I am ready to move up some levels with editing vocals. Thanks so much for this informative video.
Hello, I have been following you for a long time. You are wonderful. I am an Arab, may God bless you, but we want an episode about the sound level in vocal recording.
i have used most of these on my vocals but the combination is great. I usually start with the CLA2A the tip with multiband taming before is great. the abbey Road saturator is also one of my favourites never disappoints on vox. the parallel cla76 and kramer on the 2 sends was new really nice for chorus vs verse. i usually only throw extra takes on it - you do it all from the one track! tx Dom for sharing
OMG the parallel ADT blew my mind! HAHA! Now I want to go back and see where I can add it. Question. What listen button? In Cubase to listen Ive always put the send in Pre.I couldn't see what you hit for "listen".
Hey Malcolm! So good right? It's amazing for this subconscious vocal width! Listen button is always there along with Solo, Mute, Write automation in the channel. If you don't have it you are missing out big time- it's fantastic! It might be because you haven't activated Control Room- if not watch this one: th-cam.com/video/1QrgBa4bugc/w-d-xo.html&
Oh man that was killer!! Have you got any vids going in depth into multi band compression? This is something I really struggle with. I use a similar method, some of the same plugs... But I get a butt load of sibilance. You're right man, this just doesn't do that. But does a similar thing... Just better lol. I'm all over this! Awesome stuff man!!
I am really enjoying these videos, I learn so much from this channel, thanks Dom it's amazing. I will purchase some plugins mentioned here, greetings from Poland. thanks for sharing the knowledge.
Good day sir, I’m Tom Salvator (savaskii), from Nigeria 🇳🇬 I’ve been following up your mixing and mastering tutorials on TH-cam, and my mixing skills has really improved, all thanks. But I’m really having issues in the mastering aspect, after mastering a song it seems like the mastered version is more faster than the mix-down and I can’t really tell were the problem is coming from. I wish you could respond as soon as you see this message. Thanks once more for your good works.
i'd like to hear a comparison of this vocal chain with all stock plugins in Cubase. If the goal is subtlety, at all stages, then I bet there is zero audible difference. :) Or, at most, two different but equally good flavors. Prove me wrong. If I'm right, you just saved $250. :). (now, I'm not talking about ADT or even Abbey Chambers.)
LOVED when you sang "I have to go" 🙂 I said it and will always say it: BEST MAN ON TH-cam FOR MIXING. I`ve learned sooooooo much from you. Thanks from a german guy 💙
Fantastic as Always! Thank you for your tips! Wonder if you can do some example on some cinematic tribal viking epic voices! That would be swesome! Cheers!
Wow, doing stuff like compression and saturation in tiny steps, it really makes a huge difference! I find your videos very helpful, thank you 😊 👍🏻 Btw, it would be interesting to see how you treat layers of transient rich, percussive elements. Say, if you have alot of tight midi drums and percussion with overlaying transients that build up.
🔥Dom's on fire!! I've tried using the WAVES C6 X 2 on the lead vocal. The first C6 removes the frequencies below 100 Hz and above 4000hz, then compresses the low and high mids at the 'boxy' and 'nasal' areas. Then gently into a compressor (WAVES DBX60 is good), then into another C6 to get some air in 10000hz+ and remove harshness around 2500hz. Then saturation into the WAVES MV2 Limiter. I'll be trying the RVox in the chain next time and the sends Dom's using in this top video😁🖖
Another fantastic video Dom! Thank you very much. Your knowledge and skill base never ceases to blow my mind! Thank you in advance for the plugin links too! 👍😊
Thank U for this great video!!! ♥️❤️♥️ Will it be possible to make such a video fom mixing an academic baritone in a mix? These would be just amazing 😇😋
Hi Dom - I have a video request. I love 'acoustic' music - mostly acoustic things like folk, bluegrass, celtic, etc. Would you please do a video on how to record and produce this type of music, especially in Cubase - how to track unruly acoustic instruments, and how to apply some of Cubase's features when you aren't doing everything with MIDI, all neatly mapped to a grid, etc. If you record someone doing this, do you just let them wing it, and then adapt to that, or do you set up a click or percussion guide track... I think it's a rich area for a video, mainly because I struggle with all of the above :) Hope you think so too!
Hey Stan! I am looking for tracks that are not going to be flagged on TH-cam to use for my tutorials. If you know anyone that can send one that I can show please get in touch!
@@DomSigalas They say luck is when opportunity meets preparedness... Sadly, I am not prepared for this :(. I don't have anything useful tracked myself, but I will begin looking around. There should be some public domain stuff available in these areas, I just don't know where to lay my hands on one right now. With this question as motivation, I might be able to put something together sometime soon.
Hi nice video as usually, can I asked you a question from where you buy these beautiful T-Shirts ? Thanks for remaking always nice videos to help us to know what to buy & what to use , best regards,
A small suggestion for me, can you please post a video about how to use the plugins you've used for this voice from top to bottom... Please consider bro
Hey Dom thanks for everything you do. Could you please do a video on exponential rhythms like Odeza in cubase. All tutorials on this are for ableton. Appreciate it!

I compared it to my best preset and this setting of yours is drastically better! I got a pro vocal! Thanks a lot!
Thank you Goran, have fun!
This has to be the best vocal track masterclass on TH-cam. Thanks for sharing your techniques Dom!
Wow, I did not realize quite how much compression that professionals use! Really awesome video. Thanks for all your wisdom Dom.
Nice! As you showed, level-matching is a great way to make sure one's on the right track when doing serial compression and saturation. :D It's easy to be tricked into thinking something is better just because it's louder.

Dom, you made my day! Got perfect vocals now! THX a lot!
