@@thrash-xw6kn to be fair, in 1985 metal sub genre names were thrown around so loosely on compilations and in magazines. James Hetfield was calling Metallica 'power' metal back in the early 80s.
The only thing that Exodus didn’t do in those early days was let their bassist have a time to shine. I really wish we could’ve heard more of what Rob McKillop sounded like under those guitars.
I got to see Exodus for the 1st time in January '86 in LA...Exodus, DRI, Possessed, and Death Angel! Awesome show. Wish I still had the shirt. Exodus did a record store signing earlier in the day...I still have the pictures. Awesome times for sure.

Got to meet Gary and Paul at a gig before it started just the 4 of us talking like old friends , Billy Milano off in the background , no security no one bothering for autographs it was fuckin wicked !
Although I have no problems with the current Exodus lineup. This video definitely makes me nostalgic. Would be cool to see Rob and Rick back in the band.
@antisciaf I know that this isn't combat tour. But Slayer played at Dynamo in the Netherlands 1985, and it wouldn't surprise me if they did the show together!
If anyone is wondering what kind of bridge pickup rick is using he stated all his guitars pre emgs were the Seymour Duncan sh5 custom, killer tone with that raging Marshall
Actually they are both using DiMarzio Super Distortion bridge pickups.. you can tell in the pictures from back then the pickups are cream with hex pole pieces.
@@chrise.3814 I was told by someone who was the guitar tech for exodus around this time, he said Rick used a ts9 or two and gary used two sd1s . One pedal for tight rhythm and the other for a lead boost
Killer track!! I bet you Gary Holt never dreamt he'd be playing in Slayer one day in his wildest dreams!! Love Exodus earlier stuff Balof was Exodus Zetros cool better than Rob and so on we bash n roll!! 😎🤙🏽
The fact that they're barely moving at all (and I'm sure they're not the only ones) during the soundcheck and then acting all out of control during the gig makes me wonder, is there a fundamental difference between "going wild" for a show and "posing" for a show? I'm not hating on them, BBB is an undisputed masterpiece IMO, I do like some of their later albums too and I never got into hair metal, but how was the irony of "kill all posers" lost on Baloff? And yes, killer tune, great version, belated thanks for uploading.
Ellis1337 Fair point, but would you disagree that the "going crazy" image was something that was put on for the show? I wouldn't expect them to headbang furiously, but perhaps somehow show that they're feeling the music, not just playing it. This is what makes me think the macho metal image (of which I'm guilty of in the past) is the flip side of the coin of glam metal posing at the time.
ozricness Like what Ellis said, its a sound check. They save their energy for the real show, do you expect them to just go crazy during the sound check, and use up their energy and give a sloppy performance later that night? Either you are trolling or being an idiot. If so, get out.
+ozricness For soundcheck the focus is just on your gear. U need to make sure, not just your instrument is working perfectly but also all the gear the club owns that you've never used before. Watch the video. You can see the band is constantly talking to the soundguy and each other, working out all the ticks that can worsen before they hit the stage. The last thing you wanna do in a soundcheck is jump around, headband, get into it and not pay attention to what's going on around you, because it may be more important then the actual performance. Bad Soundcheck = Bad show
Jimi LaMort That is an intelligent answer. I hadn't actually thought about it like that. My comment was about looking completely nonchalant when they're playing. When I was in my early 20s I was full of energy and listening to metal made my blood boil - I couldn't stand still. I'm not a musician though so obviously I wasn't aware of the logistics of a gig. Thanks for clearing it up.
@n0minombre Whats Double live Dynamo??? Please give me sum info.Is it just Exodus on the DVD.Let me no I guess I could Google, but Im what you call lazy. And you say its a 2 dvd.WOW cool!!!

He was very shy, Paul always moves towards him so that the lights will point him out too.
Just saw old footage of them in Germany. He was tearing it up on a Kramer bass and you could hear him. Dude was good.
They have a new live in England in 1989 record and he sounds really good on that.
