Just saw the movie and this is my favorite scene. God & human in one. He was praying & playing. Just love it!
Beautiful. It's great to see this movie portray Joseph this way. Not much is said of Joseph but he held a big role as Jesus earthly father. It's a movie that allows our imagination to wonder freely. God bless all involved in making of this beautiful film.

I cry thinking about what Jesus went through because of my selfish and sinful ways. I can't even imagine being his earthly "father". I'd die of a broken heart.

How can someone who isn't even born yet be sinful? Because sin is not merely the evil we do, it is our inherent
propensity to do evil. That baby may seem innocent, but that's only because he is not yet able to give expression to the evil that exists in his heart. The moment he is able to talk and walk, his rebellious heart becomes obvious - hence the expression: "Terrible threes". You don't need to teach a child to do bad things, that comes automatically. You need to teach him to behave. And do not think that it gets better as they grow older! Just see how kids treat one another in the absence of adults. The book "Lord of the flies" is more than just mere fiction!
If children was without sin, then they wouldn't need Jesus or the gospel. Yet, they are in need of grace just like everyone else. Yes, there are some positive attributes that children have which we loose as adults: Their ability to trust their parents, to be humble, to obey unquestionably, and that is what Jesus refers to - but that does *not* imply that they are without sin. There is nothing more dangerous than a person who think he is without sin, because such a person is completely blind to the evil in his heart, and is completely incapable of introspection and corrective action, and the last thing you want to do is to implant that idea into a child's mind. The result of such an upbringing is a selfish, self centered ungrateful brat who thinks the world owes him something.
Jesus, on the other hand, was the only person who ever lived without sin - because He was not only truly man, but also truly God. There was no "terrible trees" stage, there was no disobedience to his parents, there was no being mean to his siblings. He was the sinless man who came to die for sinners.
Even though he did not sin, as he did the right thing. Jesus was all about crossing cultural norms and boundaries in order to do the right thing.
@@mercenaryknight5419 Someone who always does the right thing, never has to say "I know I was suppose to....". He would either have had a very valid reason to be disobedient to his parents, or He would've done what they asked.
My point stands. Also, sometimes in order to do right sometimes one has to act outside of set boundaries as to shame the inadequacies of said boundaries, as Jesus did all the time. There is nothing wrong with admitting you did so, it is called being honest.

What's truly beautiful is, God incarnate, the creator and supplier of this entire universe lived 30 years under the veil of ordinary life. This goes to show that our ordinary lives are important, and cared for so much by God. The little things we can do every day that we consider "small" or "mundane". God chose to live them too and for three decades. It goes to prove that our everyday lives if lived in simplicity and love. Fulfilling well even our smallest duties, can be a path of not only holiness, but sainthood.

I don't picture Jesus ever being a child like this. I believe He always knew who He is and what His purpose in coming into this world. To me, it's heartbreaking that even at a very young age He knew He would someday die terribly.

@@thomasmaggio1718 Yes I have seen the film, & read Jesus' Words everyday!! This film does have a lot of Gnosticism, especially when dealing with Him as a Young Man! Other than that, this scene was quite inspiring, much like the 1977 Film "Jesus of Nazareth", which they used to show every year, until the "misotheists" objected!?
@@christisking1316 That's good to know. Sadly, many people just watch movies instead of reading the scriptures for themselves. I have also seen "Jesus of Nazareth". It is available on TH-cam or at least it used to be. At least that movie made an effort to follow scripture. Sadly, the same cannot be said of shows like "The Chosen". It's entertaining, but not Biblical.

Any imagine the conversations between Joseph and Jesus the Christ my Lord. What were they like? God Grace for his elect is humbling and makes us grateful his mercy extends to us who do not deserve it.
Do these moments and accounts in this movie come from non-canonized scripture? Or is this just Hollywood fiction? The only time I remember anything mention about Jesus in his younger years, is staying behind and teaching in temple.

I like the movie in general but the story itself, I felt like there is still room for such development since it is a fictional story based only on Biblical events and characters... In the Holy Bible, the miracle at the wedding in Cana was the FIRST miracle of Jesus turning water into wine insinuated/obliged/implied/forced by Blessed Mary, when Christ said to her, "Woman it is not yet my time (to perform a miracle)."... but in the movie, Jesus as a 7 years old child already performed miracles unknowingly at first with the dead bird, but later on he realized he can do what he thinks of, he then raised the dead boy, cured his uncle and the blind rabbi... on the other hand, Blessed Mary was the opposite, overprotective, as she was one who does not want Jesus to perform miracles which is understandable for parents with a small child...
If I were the writer of the story, I will start first with the young messiah learning ABC in performing a miracle, and not raising a dead bird and a dead boy at once, for example, he can start to light up the oil lamp or candle by just touching them or anything small miracle to help the family household chores for cooking, cleaning, errands, etc, then start building up his power of curing the sick, the blind see, etc... before raising the dead bird or dead boy... that is my opinion for the story... which makes more logical sense... As he grew his wisdom from God, so does His power as he grows older in statues... Remember, his power comes from God, he does not have his own power apart from God... therefore, it can not be misused or mishandled as a child...
in the movie, the young messiah did a big miracle first by raising the dead bird and dead boy while in the Bible it was the opposite, by turning water into fine wine first, and then the last miracle was raising the dead Lazarus from his tomb, was the greatest miracle that Christ has done to prove to the word that HE is the RESURRECTION and THE LIFE of the World... Amen.

There are things that annoy me about this movie, "I'm sorry, I was supposed to help James." Obviously if Jesus was to help James, he would have been there. Also, "I believe I'm just here to experience life." We have to be careful of these Holywood "Christian" movies. They have God haters playing Jesus at times. Skewed versions of scripture, with fiction included. Still, there is a lot of merit to them. Just watch them with an open mind, and if you love Jesus, know the scriptures, and be aware of all the faults you can be. This is just a kid, so there's a lot cute, but the errors were made by men, a little less cute. Satanists making Christian movies should set off bells in your head.
I disagree, this film was based on a book, and also guided by a number of religious advisors who tried to interpret a part of history that existed but was not written down in scriptures. If a purist form was taken he would have been speaking Hebrew, and all the various other dialects of the time as in The Passion of the Christ. Given an intended family viewing film 'poetic licence' must have been allowed for certain human frailties and foibles. Given the subject matter this film had to be financed not using mainstream Hollywood resources (with Jewish influence).
The part of Jesus went though casting of some 2,000 individuals for the final selection. I was deeply moved by the way the story and inter-relationships were handled and for such times refreshing to see a 'movie' orientated with real depth, message, compassion for young and parents alike. It will allow young kids to perhaps to see a World beyond their Playstations, Xboxes, Smartphones for underlying impressive positive messages for youngsters to absorb and to try and understand. I found it intriguing how they had taken a character such as Severus played by Sean Bean to be interwoven in the script but also with a backdrop recognising the slaughter of babies under Herod's orders as a threat to his kingdom.
The film has probably arrived at a timely moment for young adults and for Parents to introduce their kids to accept Christian values where such few films perhaps exist. Anne Rice's meticulously researched book paints a vivid portrait of life in first-century Palestine and would probably be an ideal lesson for children and Adults in Gaza.
Rice's portrayal of historical Palestine circa the year 20, where she believes the young Jesus to have come of age, is gripping. Lawless hordes rape, pillage and terrorize in the name of bringing freedom to the Jews. Roman soldiers arrive to quell uprisings--killing and crucifying the innocent alongside the guilty--all in the name of efficient peacekeeping. Man, it seems, hasn't changed very much in 2,000 years
Disagree all you want. The scripture has authority. The kingdoms of this world are in the hands of Satan, they plot against the Lord. Good enough for me. It doesn't matter if you were moved, or if there were 100 "religious advisors." Hillsong preachers are advisors, Joel Ostean is an advisor. In the time of Jesus the pharisees were advisors. That doesn't mean anything. I'm sure parts of the film are great, but there are parts that show Jesus to be humanly fallable. These are ignorant of scriptural truth, which state Jesus was God manifest.

I've missed something in my understanding, I don't think Mary let him take off. His parents were looking for him, surprised he wasn't with the caravan when they left the city. But Jesus didn't say he was going with them. Jesus doesn't have to follow all the laws, I don't think scripture doesn't say that.

Can you imagine picking up our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ? I was struck by Jesus playing with his toy. The King Of King's The most powerful being in the Universe plays as a child would. My father said we should never think of Jesus as a child. But as the Mightiest of Might. We did not celebrate Christmas he did not want to be seen glorifying Jesus as a child. I am pretty sure it is ok to think of Jesus as a young person.
