Thanks. Can you explain the angle of stick and contact/utilizing the tip shape for the correct way and sound?

Great videos and glad I found them all. I'm a beginner and having issues relaxing when I play. I'm always tense and not sure how to relax. Any tips? Also on my right hand (I'm left handed) when I try and play with just the fingers for some reason my fingers start edging up the stick. Does that mean I'm not holding it tight enough between my thumb and forefinger?
    Thanks

As a drummer from the U.S., I find it fascinating that you mentioned that the most common way Scottish pipe band snare drummers holds the drumstick w/ the right hand is in the “American position”. Typically, American marching snare drummers have a very tight, close grip on the stick w/ the right hand (as in there’s virtually no space between the stick and the hand), which is the complete opposite for pipe band snare drummers w/ them having a more open grip (as in there’s clear space between stick and hand). So, I think it more fitting to called this the “Scottish position” instead!

Honestly Pio, I have to 100% AGREE. I'd be all-for changing the terminology to scottish grip! How long have you been drumming?

@@PipeBandDrumming I’ve been drumming ever since I was in 5th grade, starting w/ concert band percussion playing. As I got into high school, I got involve in the marching activity, being apart of the drumline for all 4 years. Started off playing cymbals, then moved on to playing marching snare for the rest of my 3 years. Currently, I’m not doing anything drumming related, but it doesn’t mean I haven’t been honing my skills, more than anything comparing myself now to myself back in freshmen year of high school, I’ve gotten so much better at rudimental drumming.

Thank you for the video! Can I start studying with standard sticks or it's crucial to have pipe band's sticks? Thanks!!

Great video James. Any thoughts on why some left handed drummers reverse the sticking. Seems counterintuitive to me.

I have no idea - but it does seem like quite a popular thing eh
