It is quite possible that the Chantry's rendition of the Tevinter Gods as possessing almost exclusively negative domains may have been a propaganda spin. Dumat sounds very much like a god of death, but worshiped as the chief diety, like if the Egyptians made Osiris top god over Ra. Andoral as a god of labor and laborers who in Tevinter would almost exclusively be slaves makes sense as a deliberate mistranslation by Andrastian Clerics and the faithful to demonize the Old Gods and rightfully so since their it was priesthood who were responsible for the Blights.
If the Qunari were created as slaves by the Elven gods I wonder if the Qun is actually just an evolution of the rules they lived under as slaves? Like after they were no longer slaves they decided to basically codify the way they were living before and hold themselves to it rather than being held by slave masters?
The Qun was written by Ashkari Koslun, if I'm not wrong. The Kossith predate the Qun. Those of the Kossith who chose to follow Koslun's Qun came to call themselves the Qunari. There are still Kossith who do not follow the Qun but we don't talk about them.
@@guesswho1047 we know next to nothing about the kossith because the qunari aren't cummunicative about it. That's what he meant by " we don't talk about it"
Yup, pretty sure it's that. Corypheus reaction to a possible Qunari Inquisitor, does speak to me. A slave race created by the Tevinter Imperium using blood magic and elves. The only problem to that is when did it happen? Thedas didn't knew Kossith (Qunari) existed prior to their first attack, right? Did the Imperium truly forgot about that? @@CumradFluffy I don't think Tevinter did it. Corypheus knows about it sure, but he knows about a damn lot of things. I think one of the elven gods (my guess would be Elgar'nan based on two things) altered some of the elves with dragon blood to create a new and better race that he could rule. Solas speaks their language after all, so my guess would be that they speak what originally was another elven language (possibly a "language of the slaves").

I really like the desgin difference between Urthemiel and Andoral. Where Urthemiel looked like he got a bad skin disease Andoral appearance made him looked like he was afflicted with large cysts all over its neck. I also find it interesting that Andoral has clearly defined horns, practically antlers at this point, which makes me wonder if the Old Gods uncorrupted bodies abide by the same horn-to-elemental trait as do the High Dragons in Inquisition.
I remember that somewhere is mentioned in game or one of the books or comics that the old gods were huge dragons that spoke to people and were wise creatures who helped and protected the people until one day a great calamity occurred and they didn't come and help the people and this made the elves mad and they started to hunt them down. I think this was the beginning of the Evanuris story on how those rose to god hood.
"Andoral is the god of slavery... He could also be Sylaise?... Sylaise was associated with weddings." My first thought was immediately "That brings a whole new meaning to 'the old Ball and Chain."
The Grey Wardens know where all the old gods are sleeping below the ground, that's how the Architect found out about Urthemiel's location (the Architect was Urthemiel's high priest). Don't ask me how they know, that part isn't clear. Since the Gray Wardens know which old god is who and people look to the Wardens during a blight that's probably how people know.
Or as a codex says about something elfy, that Dragons are "divine" forms for the Evanuris (elven gods). Simply a really strong form of shapeshifting magic. I believe the old gods, are whispers/spirits/souls of the Evanuris, trying to manipulate the living to free themselves. They are vain and so choose to appear to mortals as Dragons, mighty beasts, instead of Elves (their people), since they are reduced to slaves and to better manipulate humanity. When the High Priests of the Old Gods (Corypheus, the Architect and crew) managed to open the Fade, something fucked up and poured into the world. The blight (aka corruption of Andruil, another theory in itself). Anyways, when Solas (Fenharel, typo*) created the Veil, he basically cast away magic and spirits. The souls of the Evanuris was probably the only thing sealed, their bodies (Dragons, maybe stuck in these forms because they did battle Solas etc) were left behind, lifeless, in the Abyss (the battlefield of the Evanuris vs Titans which would become the Deep Roads infested with the blight. Maybe through the Calling, one of the Evanuris conspired for some Darkspawns to find his/her body, and tried to infuse it. Much like Corypheus attained immortality with the blight.
@@CumradFluffy an interesting point to to be sure. But truthfully I'm not too well-versed in every historical context of Dragon age. I could definitely see this being possible though.

I enjoy your theories. I've always considered the idea that the Old Gods are in some way connected to the Elven Gods. What reinforces this idea for me is when we talk to Solas about the Wardens going to the Deep Roads to kill the last of the Old Gods. It seems like he doesn't like the idea of the Wardens killing the Old Gods.
Hell yeah some Tevinter! In all settings I usually always enjoy humans more. They're just so... scrappy. So thank you for beginning to explore and tell us all about one of the most influential and powerful natioins that ever inhabited Thedas, who happen to be human
I have a different theory about the relationship between elven gods and old gods. First of all, the first one to use "the dragon method" (whatever it is) was Mythal, who "made" Dumat (she was the first to be killed and no one really knows who really slayed Dumat.. maybe she found Flemeth at that time?). The one left out is Ghilan'nain because she wasn't one of those war generals Solas mentions, just Andruil's favourite slave. I think she's still alive and will be the main good of DA4 against Solas (there are a lot of references about wolves and hallas fighting). With this in mind, I think the Old Gods are related, in order of corruption, to Mythal, Andruil Elgar'nan, Sylaise, June, Dirthamen and Falon'din (I based all this on the pieces of Codex about the Gods and constellations). Yeah this took me several weeks.
I'm wondering if the Old Gods are supposed to be like the Titans, and the Evanuris are likened to the Olympus Gods. The Evanuris were in a war with the Old Gods, locking them away (like the Titans, literally and figuratively) in Tartus/the Void. Though that could also be the Forgotten Ones. I'm torn. But, those comparisons could help us better understand the roles of the Evanuris...

Never been so early for a video before! I'm starting to think that the writers are intentionally giving us so many similarly structured pantheons in order to confuse us lol.
My own opinion about the Old Gods is that they are spirits or something similar based on Solas. What alarms Solas the most is when something is diverted from the purpose it had at the time of the ancient elves. Solas's reaction to the fact wardens slay old gods isn't that different to his spirit of wisdom friend being diverted from its purpose. So maybe an archdemon is to a great dragon what a demon is to a spirit. Though we don't know their place is society which apparently Solas does. Perhaps it is imcomplete that when the veil split reality from the fade the old gods were separated from from some component of themselves in the fade and that is what they sing to. Why darkspawn are able to hear them, well that is perplexing.
Except, old gods are NOT great dragons, and it says explicitly that they take the FORM, hence shape-shifting into them, of a HIGH dragon, not a great dragon, not the vague term dragon, but HIGH dragon. Also, it is said before elves and other races, the physical world was ruled by great dragons, and seeing how great dragons had a understanding of atleast ONE language, and didn't attack any who had their blood, it's safe to say old gods are NOT great dragons. They are DEMONS in the form of HIGH dragons.
My idea was that the crossroads linked different planets in the universe and all the races came from different planets originally, dwarfs are the only native to thedas. So after the change of the fade or after battles between races the remnants of those other races was left on thedas and they made new cultures for themselves redefined themselves and their races. Perhaps the ancient elfs was the ones who linked different places to each other and the other races could somehow do the same or they learned from the elves how to do it. So qunari come from one planet or enslaved from there and manipulated to be like a slave race, the elves did manipulate the titans
Okay I am probably very wrong with this theory as all my knowledge is very rusty but here we go. So diva queen Solas makes the veil and seals most/if not all magic behind it, and does the same to the previous elven lords who basically could bend the world at will. But Solas didn't seal magic away perfectly right? Somehow humans can still access magic from the fade via necromancy and blood magic, blood magic also lets people use magic in the real world and lyrium is basically what we can use to let us perform magic. So basically Solas tried and did a good job but not a perfect one when it comes to sealing away magic. What if it is the same when it comes to the elven lords of his era. One of the stories of the end of Fen'Harel is that he made one group of gods go to the skies to look for a weapon to end a war and made the other go to the depths or the void and they are still searching while leaving the world alone...or thats what i kinda remember {as i said my lore is rusty so feel free to correct me}. So what if these two groups are the old gods and the titans. But since the number Solas didnt seal away is so large he tried to divide them in some way and that way was by not letting one group know of the other. When the old gods spoke to the tevinter magisters all we know they were told was how to use magic and what to do to get beyond the veil but never told them to search our titans who they could have made much better use of as they are the source of lyrium. So the magisters get through and get cursed? Or activate a trap Solas placed for any physical being who entered the veil first (hence all the other physical entries since have had no consequences) and which sent the old gods to eternal slumber. Cutting off the old gods ties to any puppets they had doing their bidding and erasing the memories of said puppets (or at least the architect doesn't know who or what he is meanwhile Corypheus - who seemed to be the strongest - is the only one with memories of the process...but the memory thing could easily be wrong). So now the only way the old gods can awake is by being corrupted which seems to make them focus on destruction rather than any intelligent plan to tear down the veil and restore the world of their time, hence Solas gets sad and emotional when you talk about killing the old gods as they slumber as he is seeing his own kind being killed which he resents again in the well of sorrows if you decide to kill the elves present. So thats my theory on the old gods and now the titans. So as i said before i think they are the same elves just in different physical bodies and unaware of the others who are trapped outside the veil with them. Perhaps they even had different duties as we know the Evanuris were ridiculously powerful so perhaps these were ones that reshaped and terraformed the land to their will or to the will of their leaders...but this is pushing it into guessing territory. So they are trapped but know how powerful blood magic is and know their blood has some kind of power behind it but they are restricted with their bodies so they create the dwarfs and lead them to harvest the lyrium and get it to someone that can utilize it {hence dwarfs are the only creatures with some resistance to lyrium as they were probably designed like that}. Yes this is another loose connection but we know the dwarfs have their 'stone sense' and our favorite enchanter Sandal got too close with lyrium and has his moments of prophecy perhaps due to the closer connection to titans. As well as the entire happenings of The Descent show that the titans can indeed at least sway the thoughts and the intentions of dwarfs. So this and the fact the old gods had their ways of leading people to do their will makes me believe this is actually possible in the case of the titans. Also there is the fact that the blood of the titans can be corrupted too as we see in all of Inquisition, and once it is corrupted it does loose its original purpose as it doesn't pull the person closer to the veil but instead gives them more physical powers and physical mutations instead of spiritual. Yes i dont have as much reasoning why the titans and old gods could be the same elves but the way they interact with reality and how they interact with the corruption seems really similar to me. Feel free to correct me because I've doubts I've my facts right and also if you want to edit the more correct info or add some of your own then feel free and post it wherever as i wont stop you...provided this made sense to anyone else that is. Thanks for reading and sorry for the long essay.
I would say Andruil and andoral would be the best fit. As for June I always thought the things he made were eluvians and crossroads, rather than vallasin markings
What about the theory that the old gods are the forgotten ones? I can't remember which one but isn't there a codex entry about one of them (or someone at least) being banished by Mythal(???) for taking on a form reserved by for the gods, and this form was a dragon?? I think it might have even been in one of your lore videos...not that I subscribe to this theory, I like the idea of the old gods being their own thing. Makes them more mysterious :)
I wonder if one could look at the old gods being associated with the elven gods like in the dark crystal the skeksis and the mystics were one half of a being the Urskeks?
Slight correction. The old gods aren't asleep in the Deep Roads. They are asleep in their prisons underground, which could be the Deep Roads, or Thaigs, or just carved out chambers like underground caves/lakes, or even within titans.
when tevinters magisters entered the golden city they had to rift the veil, through 2/3 of empire lyrium + hundreds slaves sacrifices to power their magic
@@jamescastroalves16 Wow I knew that all happened but I never thought of how they entered the fade. I wonder how they closed that first rift then? Maybe it kindly shut itself after they were cast out?

Sorry, but they are connected. Just like the Roman gods were based on the Greek ones, the Tevinter Old Gods are based on the Elven ones. Remember Solas talking so much about corruption? Their original purpose is gone, they became corrupted = Tevinter Old Gods.
@@dirthamen5323 Yes, but outside material (aka comics, books) have hinted that that the dragons were part of Thedas long before the veil, and long before any other civilisation. I for one will like it if they are the same (which they probably are).
@@dirthamen5323 yes, but a problem with this theory, in jaws of halkon, they KNOW the DRAGON is a girl, AND possed by a MALE spirit, but refer to her as a girl. And prior to retconning, all old gods were ALL MALES in the FORM of HIGH dragons, and called they were a LITTLE bit more intelligent than high dragons, but never physically showed them selves to the people, other than in dreams in the vague form of dragons. And after the breach by the tevinter magistrates, they stopped talking when the veil was open. HALKON didn't stop talking even though the veil WAS (even if it was mostly closed, bits were still opened, and a another breach had just happened) torn open recently. And given the fact their corrupted form is called arch-DEMON, I think they are like super powerful demons, like the forbidden ones but stronger, and turned into dragons like MALVERNIS did.
My theory is that the Old Gods were powerful elvhen mages (dreamers?) who "hijacked" a High Dragon's soul and super-imposed their own on top of it, destroying the dragon soul in the process (or merging their own with it?). We know that blood is powerful in a magic sense, and that dragon blood is even more special (possible reasoning for doing this?), and these mages found their magical potential and might skyrocket with their newfound blood. Additional theory: These mages were actually already in uthenera and found the dragons in their sleep - when the Veil went up, they "lost connection", and the bodies of the dragons - their own soul destroyed and their new one disconnected - are dead right now. The original mages are lost in the fade, and are searching for their bodies, which is the song the Darkspawn hear that leads them to the Old Gods' bodies.

Wait, not only do Andruil and Andoral has the same first three letters, they also have the same last letter!
The same NUMBER of letters too. Hmmm
I'm SO hyped that were going to tevinter next game omggg I'm drooling at all the lore were going to get to see added
I wonder if one could look at the old gods being associated with the elven gods like in the dark crystal the skeksis and the mystics were one half of a being the Urskeks?
Loved the Dark Crystal, I like the comparison
I like to think you are friendly neighborhood squirrel who sometimes come to tell us stories with her adventures 😇
Slight correction. The old gods aren't asleep in the Deep Roads. They are asleep in their prisons underground, which could be the Deep Roads, or Thaigs, or just carved out chambers like underground caves/lakes, or even within titans.
Love your work Ghil, keep it up.
Keep up the good work!
"But once the giant rift in the veil was opened [the OGs] became silent and the Blights began". Sorry, what giant rift might this be?
when tevinters magisters entered the golden city they had to rift the veil, through 2/3 of empire lyrium + hundreds slaves sacrifices to power their magic
@@jamescastroalves16 Wow I knew that all happened but I never thought of how they entered the fade. I wonder how they closed that first rift then? Maybe it kindly shut itself after they were cast out?
@@jonl3609 hopefully well get to know on da4, fingerscrossed
I love your videos!!!!
PLEASE Bioware, please don't make the Old Gods connected to the Elven Gods. Let the dragons be their own thing!
As Sten said: "They were unto dragons as Kings were onto the first men."
To me, the only thing that connects them is a number. There is no other hard evidence to support this theory. If the devs make it official, I'll accept it. But I won't be happy about it.
@@donovan9456 Oh, that part is clear (that dragons were around long before the veil). By the way, did you play the JoH dlc? In that dlc they place a soul/spirit/demon inside a dragon. I'm pretty sure that's what happened to the old gods too. Probably normal dragons infused with a soul/spirit/demon. I also think the "Dragon Age 4 teaser" heavily hints in the old gods being the same ones as the Evanuris (minus Mythal), but we'll see. I for one will like it if they are the same (which they probably are).
@@dirthamen5323 I feel like I'm C.S Lewis shouting at Tolkien: "NOT ANOTHER BLOODY ELF!"
Do lore on Zevran, please
Do lore on Oghren, please
Bioware/ Ea isn't looking so goo right now... i fear for them....
could you .. maybe promote / create a petition or Fundraiser to assist DA4 to be created....?
..... i am such a huge fan of it.

I don’t think the Evanuris were all the same, or a happy family. I think that their names were gaven like ranks. Mythal has 5 children. Falon’ Din, and Dirthamen are two that we know. They also fit very well Dumat = Mythal, Falon’Din = Lusican, Dirthamen = Razikal. The rest of her kids were forgotten ones and have all parish when the Archdemons were killed. Mythal seeks revenge for what was done to her children.
Mythal seeks revenge for her own murder, she never mentions children at all.
@@abitcattywampus Flemeth never actually says why Mythal wants revenge, but indirectly sort of does. " She was betrayed as I was betrayed, and I will have my revenge " ( Flemeth in the fade ).
Flemeth was betrayed by her husband who had killed her lover, and imprisoned Flemeth. So, if Mythal was betrayed like Flemeth then perhaps Mythal as well must have been betrayed by someone she trusted.
Your right she never mentions children, but elven legend say that she had five kids. Although, we should not completely trust elven tails. I just find it hard to believe that the all mother / protecter of the people wants revenge for her murder. Like Solas said " there are worst thing then murder, like being corrupted against your nature ". Maybe your right, and Mythal is self-obsessed.
Dumat = Dirthamen, Falon’Din = Lusican, Draconis = Mythal
Solas flat out said that the old gods are not connected to the elven gods
