Surf fishing on east coast for Stripers and Drum, we use leaders about 6-8 inches, it allows your sinker to be closer to the bait so it doesn't flop around in the air during the cast
I have started converting to 12 foot Longitudes for shore too. Just used my tiny Okuma Classic 200 on a 12 footer and it cast pretty good using 30 pound mono! Now to get a good real for it and maybe another Longitude.
Buddy. I’m glad I’m not the only one who uses surf rods for catfishing. This year I’m using the 11’ penn carnage 2 (2) I used to use he Okuma longnitude like you have. I got them off eBay. They was only 10’ though and not 12’.
My TWSF 1025S10 10'00" ( 3.05M) Shakespeare TIDEWATER rod is ten foot, and with a Penn #140 Squidder reel will cast a solid hundred twenty yards. 12' heavers are good but not for me.
I bought my first 10 footer. Couldn't find a 12' rod I could afford. Actually, I got the 10' combo because it was fairly inexpensive, but also because I may not like a long rod setup. We shall see. Thanks for all the good tips.
Dave, "It saves me a lot of walking, and I like that. Because I'm lazy". No Dave it saves you walking because you are wiser and more experienced. When you get real old like me, you may get lazy, or you may get arthritis real bad and stop getting out like that. You are not lazy sir. I enjoy your catfish videos immensely. I grew up eating catfish and have a couple rivers with good fish in them.
Your calling that a cold winter, thats funny,We have cold winters here in Iowa,You have to drill a hole thru 2ft of ice just to get to water while wearing insulated coveralls,
It would aggravate me to not be able to eat some of those smaller blues. Any water besides the Tennessee and Clinch where the fish are edible round there?
I am using okuma longitude 12ft xh..there are better rods for alot more more money but these are a good rod for the price..they are no longer being made but there are plenty of old stock rods still online to be found..they are usually around $70
@@catfishdave8192 I still see 12 ft Okumas listed but always out of stock. Are they limited production, or have they been discontinued? I finally found an Big Water Ugly Stick 12 ft Casting Rod. I have a couple 12 ft spinning rods. My Newell 338J fits on one and it will cast a 6 ounce diamond jig well over a hundred yards. I am now looking to get a pair of #40 Sealines for fresh water and another long casting rod.
I'm fishing on the bank up here in Cincinnati. I'm about to buy a rod. I'm really stuck on if I should get a Longitude or a regular catfishing pole. I'm wondering if it's still fun to catch a 10lb blue cat on one of those
If u can get sum old daiwa sealine x surf 10ft and over under $100 grab them they weight nothing hardly and back bone and great action and cast forever
i have a 10,000..hardly use it though because it has a very low gear ratio compared to my daiwas..would be great for shorter distance work though..most of my conventionals that get regular use are daiwas,,sealines and saltist
hey Dave what the best rig for having to fish in big rocks. I fish from a pear above a dam and have to cast really far to get to the deep water. Thanks, I think I have watched all your videos.
But my reals are just the 6500cs abu Garcia rockets. You don’t have the levelwind and I just know I’d mess it up on the retrieve. There’s a couple pens I like I think it’s the phantom or something like that that is non levelwind.
Cat Daddy Fishin Penn lw reels is all my my brother, dad, best friend use. I'm going all Fathom's with 30 pound's of drag. I have the Fathom 25 and 40, the 40 is big. The best I can figure we have 20 Penn reel's on rod's from 7 to 14 foot.
I use a Penn #140 Squidder, that's around 30 years old now. Totally rebuildable and reliable. Used it half my life, everywhere from Padre island surf to the mississippi..
What are some reliable 12 foot surf rods you would recommend? But also very affordable. I have a couple whisker seeker 7.6 rods and I love them, but I have some spots I would love to reach an extra distance with.
Daiwa Sealines and Saltists..the sealine actually casts farther due to the lighter spool..only half the price as the Saltist..Doesn't have continuous anti reverse it has a spring lock system but thats really not an issue for catfishing
Do you use circle hooks? You seem to set the hook so I’m guessing not but there are some hybrids out there you can sometimes set the hook. Just wondering.
I love the Kahle's and catch them both way's with them. I tie them on with the easy snell knot. I fish in swift current in front of the dam's and depending on how aggressively biting they are that day will depend on how I set the hook. Like last night they was hammering them hard, I had one to slam my rod 3 times b4 I got to it and broke 30 pound line. We use 2 inch PVC pipe about 2 feet long stuck in the rocks for rod holder's.
Dave, what size weight are you throwing out on that rod? I read reviews of several people having the rod snap on them just from casting. Have any of your rods snap on you? Do you still suggest these ones for the price or are there better options now? Same price point of course.
Just started watching this channel. Really enjoy watching it. I fish from the bank to and am trying to learn. And u are very good. Can u help me. We don’t have blues here only channel cats and flatheads. Um I am fishing with 8/0 circle hooks and I’m having a tough time. I have set the clicker like u and when I click it off they are either gone or when I try to set the hook I miss him. I have put my pole in a pvc pipe tight drag tried to let them hook themselves and tried to reel down to load the pole when I get a good hit and usually nothing. I’m using live creek chubs live bluegill, cut bait shad u name it. Can u help me out. Anything will help.
I have just learned my waters after years of fishing..I pretty much know where to be when and the same goes for finding the bait which is half the battle
Adjust the knob next to drag knob......u want your bait to fall to the ground without backlash....then cast and loosen till u get the distance u like..also control the spool with your thumb
It would aggravate me to not be able to eat some of those smaller blues. Any water besides the Tennessee and Clinch where the fish are edible round there?
Lots of hard work man
Nice brother 😅
I like that music. And I liked 2017 too.
you da man Uncle Dave

Drum in NC we use like a 2inch leader. doesnt hurt the fishing and you can cast farther.

Panfish i like the 200s but was wondering if they had enough drag for bigger fish

I’m going to buy me a surf rod
Excellent video Dave!
Thank you sir
Sure do love that music Catfish Dave ..

You proved people wrong about having to have a 18-24" leader
I brought a surf rod just because of your video. Keep dropping those tips bro, your fuckin awesome
I use Daiwa SLOSH 20's and 30's from the surf, caught many HUGE stripers with em, fine reel

Gorgeous sunset!
Serious equipment!
And I thought Dave was practicing for a 100 yard dash competition somewhere.
Awesome vid nice "cat"ches!💯💪👊LET'S GO!!!
What slide guitar song is that, reminds me of zepplin
Good video Dave, what Type & Size hooks do you use?
Your calling that a cold winter, thats funny,We have cold winters here in Iowa,You have to drill a hole thru 2ft of ice just to get to water while wearing insulated coveralls,
I wonder what Dave's 40 yard dash time is. Pretty quick if there's a fish to catch😂
Another great ""Fishing"" video,, :-), no bigger fish than I catch, a Zebco 202 would work fine for me,,
It would aggravate me to not be able to eat some of those smaller blues. Any water besides the Tennessee and Clinch where the fish are edible round there?
Hey C.F. Dave. Is that you playin guitar on some of your videos?
I wanna cast 6 miles like Catfish Dave!!
What rod do you prefer?
I am using okuma longitude 12ft xh..there are better rods for alot more more money but these are a good rod for the price..they are no longer being made but there are plenty of old stock rods still online to be found..they are usually around $70

Love your channel Dave. What band and song is that?
I use surf rods for the same reason, people think I'm nuts.

#27
Good video Dave, reason why you catching them fish on that same pole bc it's on a ledge them other two poles on a flat I bet. I can tell by the bank
Its always the rod that is the farthest away isn't it ???
Catfish Dave,
What are your boat rods? I see they are. Lime colored green that
Turn into all white at the midpoint of the rod all the way to the end. Thanks.
If u can get sum old daiwa sealine x surf 10ft and over under $100 grab them they weight nothing hardly and back bone and great action and cast forever
Trump and Catfish Dave 2020!
Can you do a review on ur rods and reels . Thank you...
Also. One last thing. I’ve never heard of an abu Garcia 9000. Where can I get one?
i have a 10,000..hardly use it though because it has a very low gear ratio compared to my daiwas..would be great for shorter distance work though..most of my conventionals that get regular use are daiwas,,sealines and saltist
Catfish Dave you had said 9000 in the video and it confused me. What gear ratio are those daiwa’s
He was stating his Diawa Sealine 40 is the same size as a Abu 9000.....
hey Dave what the best rig for having to fish in big rocks. I fish from a pear above a dam and have to cast really far to get to the deep water. Thanks, I think I have watched all your videos.
You ever used spinning reels Dave? On your big rods that is.
mot for my long rods..i might pitch some live bluegills closer to the bank with spinning gear sometimes
I may pick up me a St Croix Avid 10' surf casting rod for my Abu Garcia 6500C3.
Learn how too be handsome Dave! But u put your poop on the internet!!! Your fair game, stay positive and enjoy your fame!

That catfish that was missing a tail got gnawed by one of them 100 plus pound shark like catfish
Have you ever snagged one that size
yep I've got one that size
Resamator guitar,sounfs like a "honer" i have
I thought it was a cigar box 3 string

i am using hybrids but they are very heavy wire so i do add quite a bit of pressure to drive em home
Catfish Dave the Charlie Brown hooks? I use the 8/0 triple threat from whisker Seeker and the 8/0 double action from team catfish.
If you a jerker the Kahle hooks is the way to go
Chris P if you don’t want to jerk you don’t half to. You can use a kahle like a circle hook and just reel
I love the Kahle's and catch them both way's with them. I tie them on with the easy snell knot. how do u pick it spots
I have just learned my waters after years of fishing..I pretty much know where to be when and the same goes for finding the bait which is half the battle
Hey Dave I’m just curious. What kinda work do you do. I’m in industrial maintenance.
I work at a Block yard
I just bought the same style reel and i'm having problems getting off a proper cast. Any suggestions on how to prevent backlash?
Thanks

Worst God dam music ever heard
