The pro version allows the use of longer XLR cables, but certainly not longer 3.5mm cables!
There is some incorrect information in this video. The Pro version (with Transformer) allows for very long XLR cable runs. From what I understand, it will have little impact on the 3.5mm side in comparison to the VXLR+.
With the VXLR+ you will be limited to plugging it directly into the recording device (or with a very short XLR extension). The transformer in the VXLR Pro will allow you to add a very long XLR extension between the recording device and the adapter (for example when a mic is up on a boom across a stage).
Because the 3.5mm side of both units (Pro and Plus) use an unbalanced signal, it is always wise to keep the cord as short as possible and well shielded to avoid unwanted interference.

@@R.O.E. I think what he meant is that the balanced side of the adapter is the XLR part, not the 3.5 mm. Meaning it will become balanced only after you converted the signal into XLR... this would make sense, as whatever comes before the adapter is unaffected by the transformer. So if you plan to extend this and want to avoid unbalanced audio noises, you may need a long XLR cable, NOT a long 3.5mm cable... otherwise just use the plus adapter as you are running unbalanced cables for the most part, anyways
They are microphones that need a plug-in power supply, i.e. 5V. The classic power supply for condenser microphones is 48V, but some microphones need 24V or even between 9V and 57V. Computer microphones need 4-5V. This VXLR Plus creates that plug-in regardless of Phantom Power voltage, but is unbalanced. VXLR Pro is balanced, meaning it eliminates stray signal on long cables. Does the microphone need plug-in power? You will need to enable Phantom Power on the device where you want to connect the 3.5mm jack microphone, using the VXLR Plus or Pro

The other advantage of the transformer-balanced output is compatibility with transformer-balanced inputs like the kind found on higher-end mic preamps, which will not accept unbalanced signals.
Thanks for the video, just a correction, I think the other, without Phantom power, is not VXLR plus, it is simple VXLR jack. VXLR plus is the middle of these two and offers Phantom power.
Fantastic video! I have a Tascam DR40x + Comica VM30 Wireless Shotgun Mic (Plug in Power). I have been using a 3.5mm to XLR cable hooked up to my Tascam. Question: Is this method a safe option? Should I be using the VXLR Pro w/ the Comica 3.5mm hooked up to the Tascam instead?
I have had no issues with my mic or damage with the setup I mentioned however I am asking if my method is safe or should I invest in this VXLR Pro. Thx in advance!

No, the VXLR plus does not have its own power supply, you need external phantom power from your camera or XLR source in order for it to work. Once it gets phantom power, you cannot control it.

It will not burn the mic if using phantom power because the phantom power is needed in order for the VXLR to convert the voltage to plug-in power. Without phantom power, the VXLR is useless.
I don't know what the specs are for your boya mic, if it requires plug-in power, then using the VXLR will be needed. If it doesn't require power, then you can use a regular pass-through XLR adapter and do not need to turn on the Tascam's phantom power
