I didn’t picture a Mister Camera video, but you put a polarizing villain in a good light, you didn’t loose focus, and you didn’t give a lot of negatives, you gave him good exposure, you must have a photographic memory of obscure Silver Age characters.
I kinda like the idea of Mr Camera in a position kinda like Eraser, where he’s not really a threat on his own, but his existence makes other villains and criminals more dangerous. Like, he’s someone who has this obsession with recoding images and visual information, and is willing to sell that info on to other criminals to fuel his own (relatively low stakes) criminal activity, while the data he sells would go on to be used to plan future more high stakes crimes.
You could break into the vault if you knew the security access code. If only you knew someone who had tapped into the security cameras and seen them use the code.
You could give him an arc where he manipulates superheroes into unknowingly participating in his own movie, filming even the secret identity part of their lives as he puts things in motion to play out the way he wants. His downfall can be where he loses it when the shot isn't how he wanted it, because Batman figured out he was being manipulated.
He could also be a surveillance specialist turned evil, using specialty software to datamine public and personal phones/cameras for private information and exploitation. Maybe even the ultrasonic imaging tech that's used in The Dark Knight movie could make a comeback, as a type of non-photonic camera (although writing that out, a surveillance specialist being evil sort of comes off as a given already).
That first idea of the movie is very similar to "Manhunt"s plot, the video game where you take part in an evil director's insidious snuff film, all being recorded through various CCTV cameras. It wouldn't take much to see a modern Batman take on a similar story line.
There's two directions I can see with him. 1: More lighthearted where he's an influencer that films hidden camera pranks. 2: Somebody who takes photography seriously, and is upset at the rise and ubiquitousness of phone cameras believing pictures taken with phones isn't "real art" so he set out to show them what "real art" is. Not the most creative interpretations, but still.
I find it hilarious that this silver age villains first appearance is basically making Batman’s victories hollow ones: first by hiding the blackmail photos, then by accidentally screwing up his blackmail, rendering Batman’s over complicated alibi pointless. If he had managed to get the photos to develop, he’d probably be remembered as the mastermind who managed to blackmail Batman for a while. Amazing how one mistake can make people stop taking you seriously- though admittedly the costume does him no favours.
Neil Gaiman has discussed in the past about the detached aspect of being a writer. Like someone close to you dies and part of your brain is analyzing the moment to moment experience so you can transcript it later in your next book. Your description of Mr. Camera being obsessed with photographing himself reminded me of that
Yes, he really delves into it in "The Tempest," and has none other than William Shakespeare muse over that. It's a great meditation on what it's like to be artist, there's always a part of you going "Oh, wow, now that I know how this feels, I can *really* capture this..."
Maybe give him a photographic memory he uses to commit his crimes, might be cool and used in different ways. Memorizing passcodes, the shape of keys, stuff like that.
Your idea of his obsession with filming himself, creating a real self that only exists on screen and denying everything else, I think connects super well with the blackmail angle- maybe he does the same for other people against their will, creating a version of their lives, a version of "who they really are" by cutting together candid footage, and threatening to publish it and make everyone think they really are this caricature of them he created.
The weird thing about the Brave and the Bold appearance is that they combine him with Huntress’s love interest Harry Sims. To muddle it further, the Mr. Camera billboard in Batman Arkham Knight has the name Sim’s Camera, further pushing that connection.
Mister Camera would be a cool villain for Batman to have to go to for information. Like he knows Mister Camera has the dirt on a villain, because Mister Camera is more chaotic neutral, not really taking sides in heroes and villains, just obsessed with his pictures and video. If you've ever seen Slacker, there's a scene with a character obsessed with video recordings. He has a room filled with TVs, all running different programs. He even has a TV strapped to his back. He starts lamenting about the time he saw a man get stabbed in a bar fight, and not having it on video, as he believed the videotape of the event would have been better than real life, as he could pause, rewind, and rewatch the moment, being able to see all of the details. I could see this angle for Mr. Camera, where Batman goes to meet with him in his "lair", which is just a studio apartment with wall to wall video monitors, playing back different security footage from around Gotham.
I also believe that mr Camera has untapped potential, because as you said the world today is full of cameras. Also, i think he is one of the first villains in the comics to put Batman's secret identity at risk. I think the first was either Killer Moth or the Mirror Man.
That last Brave and the Bold video is first time I heard about this guy and I was really hoping we'd get this deep dive into him. The nonsense side of the rogue's gallery needs more love.

I think it could start with a Batman story in which Mr. Camera is the main villain then, when he is defeated at the end of the story, Penguin gives him an offer: working for him and getting paid and obtain Penguin's protection or go to jail and Mr. Camera accepts it. As for the "discover your true self" kind of story you could make with him i don't know, that's supposed to be Black Mask's entire shtick with all the False Face Society he runs. Maybe you could merge these 2 ideas by making Black Mask the one hiring Mr. Camera but still you would end up with 2 possible solutions: A) Mr. Camera being always used as an henchman B) having 2 Batman villains with the exact same objective
I could definitely see mr. Camera being like, the villain's equivalent to oracle: someone who taps into security systems, phone networks, anything with a camera, to keep track of and try and figure out heroes identities, or feeding info on their whereabouts to other villains

I had the funny thought that maybe he has different camera heads for different occasions: like he has a Polaroid camera helmet, an old timey film camera helmet, a GoPro helmet, an old camcorder helmet. He wears a different one depending on what sort of criminal mood he’s in
Only Sasha could pluck a villain who only appeared in canon once and do a full analysis that makes me want to see this character I've never heard of in the current continuity.
I think a good way to update him is to have a younger person take on his Mantle, maybe his kid or grandkid and them inherit his obsession with cameras, but focuses more on new technology
That is exactly what I was thinking. Like a good idea would be to have him be an older villain that passes it down to a kid that is also obsessed with technology that he takes under his wing. Then you could have it where the old Mr. Camera is still a mentor and willing to teach some older methods of spying to a younger generation so the new person who takes on the mantle basically has both old school and new school methods for spying on people
They teased a Nightwing villain a while ago called "The Director" who was all about making a movie of Dick's life and filming crimes. I think Mr. Camera would fit perfectly in that story if they ever continue with it.
He seems like a villain similar to the Fisherman. He could be a new main lineup character if he was in an animated series or had a really good depiction in a movie/show.
He needs the puns and jokes though. Points a gun at Robin "Keep your eye on the birdie Bats." Runs into Batman after he's just escaped an explosion and is vulnerable "Well, isn't this a Kodak moment." He wakes Batman up with the flash of his camera to see he's captured and about to be executed. "For posterity." Batman tires to escape a deathtrap and looks into a familiar camera lense. "I can't let you do that Batman."
Every time I see Sasha go off on brainstorming ideas, I get the feeling she'd be great as a game master for a DC Heroes or Mutants and Masterminds TRPG campaign.
If I wrote an edgy update: He'd be obsessed with memories that pictures preserve after dealing with a family member with Alzheimer's plus insert other edgy stuff here. If I wrote a more modern update: He'd be an influencer 100%. Obsessed with capturing every moment of his life and to fill that with content by going into more extremes to consistently have his and others' lives captured and recorded by him. Also a less gimmicky look could simply be adding a camera lens to one of his eyes or have digital eyeballs if you wanna go that far like in that one Black Mirror Episode. Or all of the above! LOVE the obscure villain videos btw! SO happy to see one pop up
Honestly an idea for a modern Mr camera could be a stalker type villain that perhaps blackmails other villains or city politicians especially with how corrupt Gotham is.
I think that Mr camera could be a genuinely really good villain because I feel like would be interesting if he's a human like Batman but uses gadgets like him as well or even maybe have implants that allow him to hack into cameras and see through them. Maybe even being an absolutely insanely good detective I like Batman but rather than using these skills for good he uses them to blackmail and maybe even sell information to other villains. Could even have robots / drones as henchmen that he could see through their cameras
Why didn't Bruce ask Clark to pretend to be Batman, instead of building a snowman? They found out each other's identities two years earlier in SUPERMAN # 76 (1952) on a cruise ship.
Back then comics weren't concerned with continuity or how many characters sometimes use the simple solution. It wasn't until many decades later where comics will get more respect and taken more seriously
I kind of like the idea of Mr Camera being, like, a subtle, criminal omnipresence over Gotham, where he knows just how to get photos and footage from just about anywhere of anyone, and knows when to capture it. I think he would match well in a more grounded take of Batman silver age villians, alongside The Eraser being a professional clean up criminal. Mr Camera can especially can be retextualized in the modern, photogenic setting
A good update for Mr. Camera should like the villain Stefano Vallentini from The Evil Within 2. A murderer that takes pictures of his victims and can warp reality.
Mr. Camera rebooted as a modern hacker villain would be really interesting. Camera hacking is a very real thing (to a degree, taping over your laptop camera doesn't really do anything). Web-enabled security cameras are a particularly vulnerable target. Having him as a blackmailing antagonist for any DC detective character would be neat for a cyberpunkesque story.
Don't know if someone else has already mentioned it, but I have a feeling that the Robin in the Brave and the Bold comic might have been Jason Todd. My only evidence is from Scooby Doo BatB and the Krypto/Scooby Doo animated movies. In the BatB, Aquaman asks Batman "Did you lose another Robin?". In the Krypto movie, the Scooby gang end up using the Justice League's subpar or out of date equipment. One of Batman's smoke pellets goes off and says "Happy Birthday, second Robin" I could very well be wrong but I have now head canoned it. Keep up the good work.
Give him a full series. Something like the vile and the villainous but with more of a reality tv or vlog angle. He teams up with villains films their exploits. Maybe explaining some of what’s going on for the audience. Definitely interrupted by interview segments.
This was seriously good and damn I wish I were half as creative and able to come up with ideas as fast as Casually Comics Someone at DC needs to update this villain for the tiktok era.
I mean you could give him a lot of awesome new angles. Like he uses Apokalyptian technology to trap people in pocket dimensions with his photos or something.
Mr. Camera's mind overwhelmed with images. I flashed😉 on Jim Carrey's Riddler from Batman Forever, his brain ballooned, going 'I can see _everything_!'
Mister Camera is one of those Bat-foes that I never heard of, but am now interested in, thanks to the research & creative suggestions you always put into your videos. So I'm all for an update on this one! Especially if they find a way to incorporate that press conference scene from the comic book story...at least the way YOU depicted it. What better way for Bruce Wayne to convince the world he's not Batman, then by delivering his statements in Batman's classic sore-throat gruff voice, the way he does at 2:19 here. Nice touch!
I would be interested in a Zodiac Master video. I remember an old 70's villain group in Marvel where the members each dressed up as a zodiac sign. They fought the Avengers.
I think it could be interesting if he was a photographer who turned to crime out of desperation but got blinded. Hence why he started wearing the camera contraption as a means to see, record what he sees and also protect his head. Give him a sympathetic origin story but later on make it clear that he wasn't a nice guy even before the accident. Maybe a villain akin to the one we saw in Batman Beyond: the guy who threatened to expose Batman's secret identity to the world only to end up sinking to the earth's core.
No crazier than Crazy Quilt. McFarlane gotta get on that Mister Camera action figure. He'd put Peter out of a job if he was in the 616. I love that hes a creep in the comic. His tone did change from just doing camera crimes but, the stalker angle is more current and topical.
i love these obscure villains, i like to collect their first appearances, i can’t really afford Mr Cameras though cause he appeared in the same comic that earth one Two Face.
I would love to see this character come back full social media personality style like Screwball from Spider-Man. After filming themselves committing crimes didn’t make them go viral, they’ve decided to capture the true identity of the Batman.
How about Mr. Camera forming a Super-Villan team based on office stuff. The Calculator, The Stapler (He/She's out there somewhere), Paper Cuts, The Shredder, and the infamous "Cooked Fish in the Microwave Man" & "Burnt Popcorn Lass".
In my head cannon Mr. Camera is a robot created by (ether Hugo strange or Lex Luthor) created to be the next generation of film technology, gone are the days of tripods, Crain’s, and holding the camera with your hand, nor Mr. Camera can film whatever you want him to film and you don’t even need to use your hands, just tell him what to film and he’ll film it, and with over a billion Gigabytes of storage, but the prototype malfunctions and starts taking control of everything with a camera in it, phones, drones, smart cars, ring doorbell’s, but then Batman destroys it and Mr. Camera isn’t put into production
Video is so big nowadays, everybody filming things on their phones, and uploading videos on social media. "Mr. Camera" might be a hokey name, but the character could certainly be updated in any number of ways for modern usage.
A guy with camera for head, they need to bring him back! Imaged a modern version . Something that similar to Vox from hazbin hotel, a digital camera version or IPhone type that control social media ! Man , the chaos that this man would do !
Well done as always Sasha! And did that say "I'll explode your career"? haha. Killer idea for an update, drone head or a DSLR or RED cinema camera rig!
If I had to do something with Mr Camera I'd probably make him similar to Batman's whole brother eye thing. Really go into the whole obsessive viewer angle. I'd also make him a very about the process. He commits crimes and gets captured because that's how the story goes. He is kinda going through the motions but that's where he is comfortable. He wants to color inside the lines.
Honestly I'm just so very happy you mentioned Scooby Doo and Scooby Doo and Batman the Brave and the Bold. Underrated Scooby movie that was super fun as a Brave and the Bold fan too. I love the whackiness of the camera but there's also so mich they can do with commentary on photography especially in the modern age.
I can see a nightcrawler type disgruntled photographer turned vigilante. Releasing all the dirt they collected from Gotham's eliet/criminals. Creating a man hunt for him with his final reveal being the bats' identity. With a daft punk monitor helmet with modern tech, the lens can be anywhere.
Also personally, I feel a modern Mister Camera should have a security camera for a head. I feel that would be very sinister, both from how common those are now and how low-key sinister that would look.
Mister camera vs booster gold . Those two would work well I mean they both want to be filmed right . Why isn’t Mr camera one of booster gold main enemies.
This would be cool as an updated villain like P. Diddy filming 🎥 everything & one for blackmail....lol Mr. Camera could throw a party that Bruce Wayne goes to and gets blackmailed for something, maybe not even being Batman, but something else, hmmmm....lol
Reminds me a lot of Gentle Criminal from MHA. Also could see a mister camera TH-cam channel in the future. Like a random background character just hating on various heroes. Kinda like a modern version of Livewire's origin.
Doorbell cameras, security cameras, car cameras, crooks using camera's to watch people's house's, hidden cameras in bathrooms, surveillance cameras, drone cameras, dash cameras, wildlife cameras, live cameras, body cameras, digital cameras, phone cameras… I think now would be a good time for an updated "Mister Camera". Or how about a child of the camera? And instead of the camera over the head, (though the face peeking out through a cracked lens is a great look,) a re-design: A VR style headset? Camera glasses ("Google-lens"), a camera worn on the chest (body-camera)? As always, thank you so very much for the videos. And then there's the whole issue of AI modified pictures and videos... (Oh look, a rabbit hole.)
The growing prevalence of video surveillance, combined with things like facial recognition technology, seems like it should be a constant threat to Batman's secret identity. I'm not sure if that idea has been thoroughly explored, but I could absolutely see Mr. Camera being a part of that.
I do like the idea he can see through all cameras. Imagine a version where is able to see through phone cameras and gain blackmail/stalk people through a device someone always has on them. And yes to Zodiac Master!
I'd tell a story about him visiting other hero's cities to photograph some action and crime but them get obsessed with trying to record Flash in Super Slowmo like some TH-cam video. XD
On the idea that a good Batman villain represents an exaggerated aspect of his own person, Camera could represent Batman's paranoia, or otherwise his desire to have eyes and ears everywhere (which for Batman culminated in the disastrous Brother Eye).
You should cover Marvels character Zodiac, hes currently over in the Moon Knight series but his break out role during Dark Reign was insane in ways I cant explain.
I love all of your "edgy" Mr. Camera update ideas! Covering 3D would make an interesting video, especially since you could link it directly to comics. Did you know Neal Adams created a 3D effect for comics? It was used for some sort of fast food kids meals. I also believe this same tech was used for the Valiant Vision 3D comics from the '90s, though I'm not 100% certain of that.
@@CasuallyComics actually his comics fate was worse as he was disfigured by an elderly Joker. If I'm not mistaken that was the state he was in during the Convergence event.
I really like your ideas for Mister Camera. I love the idea of a helmet that allows you to access any camera as well as various vision/sight/photography related gadgets. You could also have him use deepfake tech to pull various pranks and crimes.
I had the idea of that Mister Camera would be a professional stalker for hire to get dirt on people and targets superheroes at some point. He would have an array camera based gadgets and get away plans.
You could easily transfer Mr. Camer's camera obsession to special effects and make him similar to Mysterio but with more ego and more of a focus on filming himself as he commits crimes.
There is another villain from the old time that got reused as a Huntress villain: the Bookworm. He was in the 60's Batman show then was reinvented in the Post Crisis Huntress series as a Huntress villain. It got me thinking how Mr Camera and Bookworm could both end up being used as BOP villains.
Mr. Camera doing information-based stuff without dropping hints about it like Cluemaster or the Riddler sounds so scary to me. Also... DCUO callout by giving him a partner: The Calculator??? Ahh? Ahhhhh?
All it takes to get a villain seen as an old joke is for someone to take enough of an interest in them. We've seen it time and again. Mr. Camera might yet have his day!
Which villain would you pair Mister Camera up with?
Karlo Clayface and Mister Camera
Zebra man
Mirror Master -- although I imagine their crimes would be more upsetting than diabolical.
@@PuzzlingHousing56nice one 👍
Mirror Master...endless selfies!🤣
I didn’t picture a Mister Camera video, but you put a polarizing villain in a good light, you didn’t loose focus, and you didn’t give a lot of negatives, you gave him good exposure, you must have a photographic memory of obscure Silver Age characters.
GOATed
So many goddamn puns, i feel like someone flashed me
This was painful to read.
I approve.
😂. These puns are just fantastic
… two of those references are going over the heads of most people who’ve never used a film camera.
A villain obsessed with filming themself? You just described 90% of TH-cam
Which if used correctly could be a pretty good story for a modern comic
Atleast Mr camera is honest.
Also last time I checked he didn't get any content from the (demonized) forest.
Yeah, which is exactly why it would be a perfect update for Mister Camera, or just a good villain backstory in general imo
Or Instagram. Or Snapchat. Basically 90% of social media.
So as early as 1954, Bruce has to go "YET AGAIN I've proven I'm not Batman".
I kinda like the idea of Mr Camera in a position kinda like Eraser, where he’s not really a threat on his own, but his existence makes other villains and criminals more dangerous.

His downfall can be where he loses it when the shot isn't how he wanted it, because Batman figured out he was being manipulated.
That sounds pretty cool ngl
Love this, you could go very psychological scary but also silly with it
He could also be a surveillance specialist turned evil, using specialty software to datamine public and personal phones/cameras for private information and exploitation. Maybe even the ultrasonic imaging tech that's used in The Dark Knight movie could make a comeback, as a type of non-photonic camera (although writing that out, a surveillance specialist being evil sort of comes off as a given already).

I half expected Sasha's Mister Camera pitch for him to be Punchline's brow beaten cameraman/producer, leaning further into her influencer aspect.
Is it weirder or cooler than the marvel guy that has an eyeball for a head
This was seriously good and damn I wish I were half as creative and able to come up with ideas as fast as Casually Comics
Someone at DC needs to update this villain for the tiktok era.
I need an edgy Mr. Camera reboot just to know how it will never stand up to the amazing glory that this is lol
I just love when she does these speculation and what you can do with characters
Mr camera joins all the charecters with a lot of potental that where not used like roberta the wonder girl, fireworks man and many others
I love your ideas for modernizing him. I'd love to see him make a proper return, even if only for a single story.
Honest to god, i love the videos when you shine a light on these obscure characters and try to suggest ways to modernize them. I love it!
If they bring back Mr Camera. They can make him a part of Calculators crew.
XD
Your Mister Camera impression, chef’s kiss.
Second video in a row where you implant inside my head the idea of wanting a Mr. Camera revival. Last week I didn't even know the character!
As someone with a webtoon about criminals with cameras for a head… I don’t know how I should feel about this
On the idea that a good Batman villain represents an exaggerated aspect of his own person, Camera could represent Batman's paranoia, or otherwise his desire to have eyes and ears everywhere (which for Batman culminated in the disastrous Brother Eye).
Mister Camera seems like the right level of comic book silly and serious enough he could be a good villain.
Harry Sims was the name of the Huntress' love interest in the Wonder Woman backups in the pre-Crisis 80s
What did Harry do to deserve this? lol
@@CasuallyComics actually his comics fate was worse as he was disfigured by an elderly Joker. If I'm not mistaken that was the state he was in during the Convergence event.
Mr. Camera and Film Freak need to team up
13:41- I'd like to thank this video for unintentionally giving me my daily dose of Steph and Cass.
Mister Camera sounds like a chain of photo booths or the old photo-mats.
Mister Camera: what happens when Jimmy Olsen gets hit with an “evil ray.”
I could see a modern version being an influencer that fell out of popularity
I love your videos but long for the day when you start penning comics yourself; your ideas and perspectives on characters are always super cool.
Kinda reminds me of that episode of Batman Beyond "Inside Peek" where a reporter tried to leak Bruce and Terry's secret
The look of Mr. Camera reminds me of the Robots from Saga.
He has SO MUCH potential. So many different ways you can spin that.
Mr Camera was just a flash in the pan.
That's not a camera pun.
Mr. Camera doing information-based stuff without dropping hints about it like Cluemaster or the Riddler sounds so scary to me. Also... DCUO callout by giving him a partner: The Calculator??? Ahh? Ahhhhh?
The name alone, it's just... yeah. I love your ideas. DC needs to hire you as a writer!
All it takes to get a villain seen as an old joke is for someone to take enough of an interest in them. We've seen it time and again. Mr. Camera might yet have his day!
