Hi thanks for this video and especially the tip with the diesel purge as a primer for the filter. I own and drive a VW T4 AAB and I've seen a few tutorials w/ diy hose setups and extra containers which are way more complicated and afterwards leave the old filter in. Always thought it makes way more sense to change the fuel filter when doing a purge - so really glad I found your video. Quick question: Do you know the inner diameter of the braided hoses you exchanged ? Thx again best, Jan
I fill the fuel filter with Diesel Purge because we do not stock diesel fuel at the shop... to get the most out of diesel purge / the best performance, it needs to be attached standalone style to the injection pump. The engine is then run off of the diesel purge container until almost all of the liquid is used up (before the pump starts to suck air). When filling the fuel filter with diesel purge... fuel & diesel purge will return to the fuel tank once the engine is running... diluting the strength of the diesel purge / lowering its effectiveness.
It's a fuel system cleaner that can be added to the fuel tank, the engine can be run directly off of it for most effectiveness or like in this case, used as a filter priming agent. www.liqui-moly.com.au/diy-diesel-injector-service/
Thanks Thomas I did not know that. On my diesel tractor I have been changing the filter cartridge and filling it up with sea foam. I will check out moly.
The rubber seal ring was missing from my filter,I got air in the fuel line,had to order the ring as a separate item, i only noticed the ring was missing by watching videos, nobody mentions it.
+Thomas EXOVCDS , Thanks, I got stitched up by a mechanic before I figured it out. new timing belt glow plugs and diagnostics, new fuel filter, had me down for something else,before I pulled the plug, no pun intended.
Hello, I have a vw t4 2.5 petrol caravelle, about a month ago while I was going it turned off and it didn't go anymore. The mechanic tells me that the petrol pump in fact runs on LPG without problems, and I also understand why I felt the smell of petrol in the passenger compartment (I know that this is one of the symptoms). Once mounted it does not start anymore and runs very badly, the mechanic claims that something else must have been broken and that it is a long thing, and given the age of the vehicle he doesn't know if it's worth it.I feel like crying as he adores my caravel and I know (from experience, unfortunately) that every time they put their hand to it they break something. I pay and he took my vehicle away, I go to LPG up to the ring road I pick up speed and try to switch to petrol, but the engine turns off, I try again a couple of times and at some point it goes intermittently, I try again and finally it goes it's okay too. I run on petrol for quite a few miles but I notice that as soon as the speed drops to a stop, it switches off. And anyway it doesn't start, I always have to start it on LPG.I assumed he replaced the pump and filter but he probably didn't bleed the petrol circuit? I would love your opinion / advice. Thank you
The petrol system is self bleeding... I do not know if your Caravelle uses 1 or 2 fuel control modules (1 that controls both LPG & Petrol or 1 for LPG and 1 for Petrol). Depending on which setup you have... determines where to check for a problem.

As the filter got stuck, would it be a good idea to grease the new one to make it easier to replace next time ?
