This has nothing to do with pencils, but you obviously put time and effort into it, so. I really enjoy the clothes you wear for your videos. Not only do they fit, but they suit your coloring and body type. A+, from this fashion nerd! 😁
I checked one of my older Lyra kits (a 12 set I was gifted a year ago) and it had the same two different branding styles. Super strange how long it’s taking them to change over
Well the Lyra Rembrandt are an oil based pencil so they are closer to the Polychromos rather than the prismacolor (prismacolor is wax based). The prismacolor tends to be a little easier to blend because of that wax but like the Polychromos the Lyra is a bit easier for detail☺️. If you can get yourself a set they are a great pencil!
@@StuffBySunshine oh I dis not expect an answer that quickly thank you ! I should try for a wax based brand then ! They do seems very nice ! I just have many polychromos that I only use for sketch I’m not really advanced :) thank you for your answer you are really kind
I love my Lyras. I discovered them years ago and have a big fan ever since. My favourite pencils are the Faber Castell Polychromos but the Lyras come a close second. NOT sure why they are so underappreciated . They blend REALLY well and layer REALLY well too. I guess I should say that I am one who NEVER liked the Prismacolours so the lyra are a wonderful pencil for those times when I want a softer lead. thanks for the very through review! (hello from Canada! 🙂)
I’m glad you enjoyed it ☺️. I have to agree! They really are a very underrated pencil. It’s one of the great things I’m finding in doing these tests, I’m getting a chance to try out all these amazing ✏️ 💜!
Would be interesting to see a wrap up video (in the end when all pencils have been tested). You could put the results of the tests next to each other so we can see the results for the different brands in direct comparison. You could then also decide if you want to keep your current ranking or if you want to adjust it…
A little secret is I did all the first 10 pencil tests at once so I could do exactly that. Basically rank them side by side. To get an idea. I have changed them slightly as I edit the videos but so far I’m still pretty happy with the ranking (ish). But yes! If i ever do Allllll the pencils I’ll do that 😂. Likely the first combined video will be on the white pencil
Just the test part @@Thunderpaws111 they are time consuming but fairly easy. 😆 the talky speaky parts take foreeeever as i'm pretty terrible in front of the camera
I've always treated the colour on the pencil as a guideline and that's true regardless of brand. Some of them may be more accurate, but it is always just easiest to test it on paper. I actually consider the Polycolor pencils quite hard, but then they are compared to some others that I've used which are substantially softer.
Great channel! Thanks so much for this review, I went out and bought the set. All of my pencils had the Lyra Rembrandt LOGO at the bottom. I will now subscribe and LIKE if only to hear you say the word "offer" once again ~ Haha! I love your accent! ~
Hi Sunshine!, HaHa! Like you, your Aussie accent is lovely! You bring such positive and happy vibes to your channel and as I really need this review, you made getting the info an absolute pleasure! I am so looking forward to more! ~
They are too transparent, not richly pigmented. They do not work on dark backgrounds. My experiance is Derwent Artist is all you need. I have some of them from my now dead artist mothers tin, she bought them in London 40 years ago, they are still bright and smooth. 40 year old Derwent Artist look and perform just like the new ones. Think about that.
Ahh that’s because the Derwent artists are wax not oil. For oil pencils you build up layers for wax the pigment sort of smooshes on the page. With the Lyra or any oil pencil the more layers you do the more vibrant they become. Im doing some more reviews on Derwent pencils right now (hopefully the lightfast will be out on Monday) which you may be interested in ☺️
The red and green dropped off in the gradient test, made me think they would blend together well. not surprised at the low breaking point average, they are focusing on the quality of the pigment, and it seems they are focusing on a true color other than expectations. not surprised that the blue on the pencil was darker than what it produced. I would probably get a set of them along side the Farber Castell. I am interested in Cecil's suggestion for a taste test
Yes I agree, a low score in the breaking the leads isn’t going to effect most people too much. They are super saturated pencils and super buttery so I was kinda expecting them to be soft in the end. I always thought oil based pencils were harder but I’m starting to question whether they actually are or as all the oil based pencils I’ve tested have been so soft! 😅 Cecil reckons they were 10:10 taste wise as the wood was nice and soft to sink his beak in 😂
Excellent testing and review presentation. The only thing I found at fault was the misspelling of Holbein (not Holbien), pronounced "hole-bine". I don't mean to be nit-picky, but thought you should know. Thanks for the great video!
Thankyou! No that’s not picky at all. For some reason I swapped the I and the e in the Holbein review and the name of the graph has been causing me grief since!
@@StuffBySunshine I'm glad you didn't find my comment picky or obnoxious. Just wanted to help you out so you can make even better vids in future. Your approach to this review is very well thought out and presented. Reason I was watching it in the first place is curiousity about your opinion on these pencils, as I have the 72 set.
I first got a set of "these" as young. I loved them. About ten years ago, I bought myself a new set. A big disappointment! The colours marked on the outside were way off, the chose of colours were strange and especially disappointing, and they were not as bright as the old ones. (I still had a few to compare.)
Hmm that’s really interesting. I guess over the years formulas change? Sometimes it sucks a bit, like in your case. Which is such a shame. But I’m very glad they stopped using lead in paint! 😂
@@StuffBySunshine It's possible that there are changes for various reasons. That many traditional pigments are toxic is definitely one possibility. But I've also noticed that no matter what coloured pencil is being reviewed there is always at least one person who claims they were better in the past.
I like how your tests are a bit different from what you find in other channels. However please correct the logo and pronunciation for the Holbein pencils 😂 It is E followed by I and not the other way around, and it is pronounced as the German diphthong ei = /ay/
Glad you’re liking it! Oh dang! I didn’t even notice that In the graphs! Good eyes! I’ll make sure the next one is the right way round ☺️. Ooof another pronunciation wrong, it must just be the Australian way ☺️😂
@@StuffBySunshine I see it happen sometimes with native English speakers 😅 If it is of any help the name of brand, even thought it is a Japanese art supplies brand, comes from the name of a German-Swiss painter. I’m not sure if Hans Holbein the Younger or his father Hans Holbein the Elder.
It’s so interesting a Japanese company named there brand after a German (Swiss),name. I guess they thought it would make it sound much more professional or something? Anyway you’ve got me double checking names for the next video now😂
@@StuffBySunshine they wouldn't be the first company/brand to do that: Paul Rubens (Chinese) Da Vinci (German), Raphael (French), Turner (Japanese), Matisse (Australian), and so on and so forth... Then there are also companies who do the opposite and name themselves or their lines/brands after local artists :)
Your video was spectacular as always so charming so fashionable like those gorgeous ladies presenting products on the tv for auction or selling the news thing on the 📺. 💘💗😍🫠. I didn’t know Lyra existed, now that I know I will get one. Thanks to you and your amazing well organized and fashionable video all is perfect 😍. I want to see more of your content. I would love to do graphite as well though. I mean is there a difference between the cheap and super expensive brands? I have no idea at the moment but I’d love to find out!

I agree so charming you reminds me of those ladies from the 60 or 80 so elegant ladies presenting brands and products from tv show. Hehe 🥰
Interesting to see the different branding styles in the same set. I admit it would put me off of buying the set until the switch is finished.
I checked one of my older Lyra kits (a 12 set I was gifted a year ago) and it had the same two different branding styles. Super strange how long it’s taking them to change over
I've an older set and it's the same.
I mean many years old
I wonder how they compare to the prismacolor ? Or any brand suggestion ? Because they are hard to find in France :(

Snobbery perhaps, because Polychromos is usually more expensive.
