  • Glowlight tetras are delightful little fish that are easy to accommodate in even the smallest of tanks (40L minimum). They are easy to feed so long as the food is small enough and will yollerate a wide range of different tank styles.
My favourite fishy stuff! (yes these are affiliate links :) )
    Lights
Nicrew Classic LED - amzn.to/3fG3Uv6 - Traditional led light that's got a nice high output in a white/cool colour range. Makes plants look extra green.
Nicrew SKY - amzn.to/3Ktn45U - really nice light for natural looking tanks, also the one I use for filming.
    Filters
Pat Mini - amzn.to/3fE1u0k - popular for a reason, just a superb little filter thats great for shrimp tanks and fish alike.
ASAP - amzn.to/3nBuytp - the old favourite and the one i return to most frequently.
    Air Pump
AP-3 Kit : amzn.to/34UMA3q - Great little air pump, not a silent runner, but has been very reliable for me.
    Tanks
Scaper 45 - amzn.to/3KBxG2H - a lovely high quality tank that comes with a super strong light, and a decent enough hang on back filter - perfect for newbies and scapers alike.
    My filming stuff
    Camera - Cannon 200D - amzn.to/354OLlc - nice camera, easy to use.
BigTripod - Manfrotto befree - amzn.to/3GLXDdj - pricey but super sturdy and can take being knocked over a lot by clumsy operators.
Lil' tripod - amzn.to/355WmQs - can't pronounce the name but it's been a good tripod for filming things on tables or when I have tanks on the floor.

I had a 4 ft tank with about 20 Glowlight tetras, 20 Neon Tetras, a dozen head and tail lights, and a few other loner contrasting fish. The tank was heavily planted, but had lots of swimming space at the front. It was so beautiful with all these little glowing lights moving around in schools. Love these fish, they are SO under rated.

2:53, poor breeding ethics is to blame, if there isn’t enough outcrossing of breeding stock, deformities and genetic health issues arise.
Ember tetras are prone to melanoma, anecdotal evidence supports this claim. There have been many cases of them developing small black internal growths that slowly spread inside the fish. My group of 14 ember tetras 8 months later is now down to 2.
If you want longer lived fish buy from a breeder that outcrosses their breeding stock. If they don’t, forget about them. A reputable breeder should be more than willing to answer your questions.

I have 5 left out of the 10 I started with. I have them together with black neons, cardinal and neon tetras. Black neons dominate the upper level, glowlight mid level with the cardinals and regular neons. Great informative video! I enjoy all your videos.😊

I awhile ago I replanted my big tank and was looking for something different. Didn't know what to go so I was going to settle for a school of neon tetras, but when I got to the shop I saw these glow lights for the 1st time and changed my mind. Glad I did these guys are super peaceful they school well and you get individuals wander off and return. They all come together when you approach the tank. Even after adding another 15 of them the new group hugged the gravel when I 1st released them but after feeding them that night they integrated well. Previously with neon tetras didn't matter the group size I've always noticed aggression fin nipping chasing etc, not with these. Usually you want the brightess newest out there fish, but these have easily become my favourite. Tank mates at the moment red cherry shrimp and snails they don't bother either of them.

I had bought about 7 glowlights about a year ago and sure enough 1 by 1 they died off until I have 3 remaining. It's been this way for about 8months they are quite hardy though. I added some raspboras recently and they all happily swim together

as always I love your videos! love the fish you choose to showcase, they often tend to be fish I'm interested in!
just out of curiosity, what do you think of denison barbs? I think they're absolutely beautiful and they're a dream fish of mine, but I would want a very, very long tank before I get any. And that is still a long way off.

I would just say that tank of 40 liters is too too small. And they do much better in black water tank.

I've added a 7-fish flotilla of glowlight tetras to my planted 10 gallon tank. They shoal around the anubius I have attached to a hunk of driftwood in the center and hold their own against my dwarf gourami. They may not go to the substrate, but pellets that land on the driftwood or in the leaves of the anubuis or crypto are fair game. They also pick roots off the water lettuce but don't really seem to use them to hide.
I know I overstocked a bit but I am trying to deal with that using an undergravel filter, a box filter full of floss, and regular water changes every Saturday evening. My test strips say everything is ok, so far. 🐟

Thank you for the species profile.
Separate note. I prefer to use a fine substrate, like sand, when keeping Corydoras or the Kuhli loach. 🙂
