Bjork is the reason why there is a genre called "Unclassifiable".

  • @DJHolte
    @DJHolte 2 ปีที่แล้ว +71

If there is actually such a thing as a "typical" Bjork sound, I'd say this one is a lot closer to that than the one you previously reacted to. The very first time I heard her music, I brushed it off as just "weird" - but the more I listened to more of her stuff, I did a total 180, and now consider her a musical genius. However, I've gotta be in the proper mood to listen to Bjork, haha.

“Army Of Me” is one of the most savage and unique songs ever. I wish she had stayed on the heavy rhythmic path of that song and this one. “Pagan Poetry” and the ultra-eerie “Bath” are other favorites of mine, and “Sick For Toys” is the pinnacle from her Sugarcubes days.

Absolutely! You can count on two hands the number of vocal artists in the post-classical space like this. Bjork, Moya & Enya Brennan, Aurora, Peter Gabriel, Brian Wilson, Mike Patton, Bobby McFerrin....musical geniuses with one of a kind, supernatural voices that they use as a DIVERSE instrument, and innovate new ways of using said voice as an instrument

The production is by Nellee Hooper who was part of the Wild Bunch crew who turned into Massive Attack (Unfinished Sympathy). He was also the producer on Soul II Soul of Keep on Movin' fame. Bristol was producing a lot of interesting music then and Bjork was part of that scene. It became known as Trip Hop and included Portishead (Glory Box) and Roni Size (Brown Paper Bag). Other great tracks - on that album: Come To Me is a beautiful ballad and Play Dead too. On the next album is Isobel which is also great - so many notable tracks, her golden era starting with this album (Debut) lasted at least four albums, others would argue longer.

This was our introduction to BJORK'S 90s Solo Career(her 1st Single). This song is Describing Human Beings but from the Point of View of every animal on earth. She 8s her own Bjork Lane & Category.
It's Oh So Quiet (is a cover of a 50s song)
But this is a better representation of Who and What BJORK'S about.
I usually don't recommend Listening to an Artists in Chronological Order, however when it comes to BJORK , it's a Must. Her Musical and Creative Evolution is a thing of Marvel and Inspiration. Her Brain is Unlike any1 else U Will ever come across.

I'm only a casual fan but everytime I dig into Bjork, it's so impressive, especially considering she was doing this in 1993 (and Oh So Quiet was 95). She was very cutting edge in her day, yet coming back to her decades down the line, her music is just timelessly awesome and interesting, while being 100% _musical_ . This and Oh So Quiet are a couple of my favs from her, a few others worth scoping out: Hyperballad, Bachelorette, Army of Me, Hunter. Cover Me is cool too, the Dillinja remix is a classic example of a 90s DnB track that goes great with the original samples.

I was already your fan but after you interrupted the video to put on a media that turned up the volume and so, you and we could hear this work of art better, my respect for you is in the heights!! Thank you very much!!

Hyper Ballad is Bjork's best song. I love your reactions. Keep up the good work.

If you want something a little easier to ease in to the world of bjork but still full of the scope/majesty that she brings, I recommend "Play dead". The song is absolute fire 🔥🔥

An amazing artist, Bjork has many great songs. She’s offbeat, in a very good way

You are the most insightful reaction artist on TH-cam. Bjork is in my opinion multi-layered and you recognize it. Keep it up!

Bjork is my all time favorite! You can sleep, do drugs, or have sex to her music. She's a genius! Watch her video Hunter. 30 Seconds To Mars covered it

I feel like this is a better way to experience Bjork. Everyone always suggests It's Oh So Quiet because it was her biggest mainstream hit, but she has so much more to offer. Her Medulla album is fully a cappella, and all the melodies are made from nothing but human vocals. Triumph of a Heart, and Oceania are great songs from that album. You should also check out some of her live stuff. She is pitch perfect live. I've seen her live and it was the most mind blowing concert I've ever been to.

Love Bjork! Just categorize her as a true artist. If you watch her videos they are wild as well. Just know that she knows exactly what she is doing with every sound she makes and how she makes it in the song. The Gate is a pretty wild song that I like.

That first solo album of hers is definitely my favourite. Loved that album, but never really got into much of her stuff after that. I think it's a real class of an album.

I remember being impressed and baffled by this chaotic video when it debuted on MTV in the summer of ‘93. After it, they showed an interview with her on a bed, with her giggling and wearing some sort of revealing nightgown, as I recall. I assumed she was some weird teenage phenom / Lolita, not knowing about her singing career going back to 1977.
A similar thing happened when they played Juliana Hatfield‘s “My Sister” video that summer & interviewed her as well. She was so shy that she could barely look at the camera, and had a soft, childish voice not unlike Björk’s. Two of the most unique songs and singers ever right there. Two years later they each released their most aggressive videos, “Army Of Me” and “Universal Heart-Beat” respectively, both of which you must review.
I’ll never forgive MTV for taking away these small moments of discovery from us when they phased out music programming. (They allegedly had a meeting in 1996 at which they decided to basically kill off rock & metal in favor of formulaic hip hop / R&B and reality shows, and in the next few years added a curiously high amount of boy bands & girl bands, and then corny nu-metal as the final nail in the coffin. A similar suicide was done to its sister network VH1.)

God, and then, like, 10 others. Bjork rules.

Bjork is just Bjork. She defies categorisation and exists in her own genre of one. There's a lot of different and brilliant stuff in her catalogue. Army of Me would be a good next step.
