Haha I keep hearing about beads and dimes being stacked up but I'm pretty sure it's supposed to look like black bubblegum surrounded by 1½" of brown on all sides......
Remember Kiddies, when welding use a welding mask, but when grinding and cutting, wear your reading glasses. What's the worst that could happen? My buddy had one shatter on him, but it was OK... he caught it with the bridge of his nose. F@ckin ugly scar!!!
Man, I'm no welder but if we are all TH-cam fanatics, and I know we are, I'm sure that we have seen many a welding videos showing how to properly weld sheet metal, that will be prone to look less like, well, this. I know building on a budget is a good thing abd everyone just wants to make a quick buck, nothing wrong with that. But, dang! This is horrible! Stick weld on a frame? Yes, its strong, but is ugly as hell. MIG, maybe? Or maybe not in the budget. I was glad to see that he whipped out the TIG torch, but that was even worse. I'm only watching this to get, some ideas for doing something like this for myself. I know that I'll be leaving the welding to people that weld for a leaving. I wonder who was the poor sap that ended up with this trophy. Yikes!
Someone who is actually good with stick could certainly do a frame with purty welds. Otherwise, "fill and flap disc" or mold the work. I'd be fine with any frame stick welded properly with 7018 by self (I'm decent at it) or someone who knows their shit. My pipeliner bros can lay 7018 and make weld porn. OTOH there are a lot of "cold" but pretty MIG welds out there. When in doubt, bend test some coupons and you'll know what you can do. Bend tests don't lie.
I bought a 1972 Sporty in 1975....stripped it down and built a complete rigid frame (and springer front end) using a stick welder AC no less...and Ox-ac torch for bends....1/2" electric drill motor for holes.....did the whole thing outdoors in my parking spot at apartment.....thing came out OK, rode it for 7-8 years, then took the motor out to have it built to another design by Alan Sputhe (Sputhe Engineering.....sputhe.com) gave the frame away to a kid with 'chopper' dreams....... Welding....90% preparation, 10% welding time.....if you prep it well, little or no grinding after the welding....AND....rear fender..... I bought 2 boat trailer fenders for $19.95 (sold in pairs).....worked fine....one for the Sporty, one for the 46 knuckle....
Fun fact about stick welding; Stick welding penetrates deeper into metal and doesn't need as much voltage to get a better weld, then MIG or TIG welding. The beads shown in this video are actually very good considering he is welding round bar with stick welding. Also, MIG or TIG could potentially burn threw the frame. So...... yeah, know yo stuff kid
Yeah....I did see a couple with worse stuff...welding, wiring, painting......and another where a guy is welding up some exhaust tubing...using a MIG welder....and feeding in TIG filler into the weld at the same time....then, a LOT of grinding.....
Love how he has a steady hand and a straight eye.
Would have kept duck lip n trimmed sides n chopped front but two each their own solid vid my man keep ‘em coming I support
god damn, that tig welding looks like ray charles did it with his feet
-big chief
trust me that saying has been around a lot longer than when big chief coined it, 30 years to my knowledge
I know, I had just finished watching an episode of Finnegan's garage, so it was fresh on the mind.
😂😂😂😂😂
I like the way he marks his lines on the outside if the fender and then cuts inside where he cant see the lines?
Well, did you see the lines? They weren't much help anyway.
"For those of you who have never welded, and wondered what it looks like..." It looks nothing like this!
As a welder, I came here to say this, lol
Haha I keep hearing about beads and dimes being stacked up but I'm pretty sure it's supposed to look like black bubblegum surrounded by 1½" of brown on all sides......

This series has the worst welding I've seen in a while.
..Yeah....Quite a while.....like since TH-cam started......

I don't know...kinda' reminds me of guys doing exhaust pipes in the 1960's with Oxy-ac torch.....
