for me it's the ambience, many samples and noise layers that sound very meticulously placed like the fireworks. there's analogue qualities to those samples too they don't all sound like differently processed wav files from around the internet, sounds like they record a lot of their foley stuff themself, which makes sense given that they started out as a sound collage/ambient artist

@@brokenenglishprod for the loud chaotic mixes on yves stuff i'd say degradation+sidechain is your friend, use haas effect to make it spacious, but most importantly just experiment, make some crazy harsh noise or something and randomly throw it into a mix

Any idea what he uses for those high, metallic sounding synths in parody and lovely sewers?
if you are referring to around 1:03 - 1:10 of lovely sewers a lot of it are sine waves initially. You can try then experimenting with adding chorus or resonators to the sound. However the base sound is definitely a simple sine wave.
