To whomever put this together, THANK YOU SO MUCH for getting the names of the black Lindy Hoppers!!!! That put a smile in my face seeing that that was done and acknowledging them being that THEY taught "Hollywood" these dances. Also, sadly the dancer Irene Smith, passed away in February 2020.
An extraordinary piece of dance history. In some of the clips, I assumed the female dancer was Irene Thomas, but turned out to be Jewel McGowan, who I wasn't aware of until looking at other YT material. I simply can't believe the energy of people of that era, and of course the astonishing dancers, named here with thanks, of Whitey's Lindy Hoppers in Hellzapoppin'. I'm deeply impressed. Thank you, Robert, UK.
Outstanding! This keeps the Lindy style alive! I only wish the Mambo dancers from the Palladium days had this much footage… and that the legendary Latin dancers could pass on the Palladium Mambo style the way these Swing dancers did. I guess there was more work in Hollywood for Swing dancers over the years then there was Latin/mambo dancers.
We actually know quite a lot about her! She does talks and has DVDs of her interviews, and was on The Track swing dance interview podcast podcast, and is still with us today, so we hope we can get even more interviews with her.
Nice... as you see Lindy Hop didn't die with Hal and dean doing it at public dances on the east coast LOL. With the term "choreographer" changing and evolving thru the years FM did not choreograph ALL of Hellzapoppin
I WAS AT BOBBY MCGEE IN ABOUT 2004, & WAS TOLD TO DANCE WITH THE RED HEAD ,,I WAS TOLD SHE WAS THE STAR IN 50'S,, AFTER ONE MINUTE OF THE BALBOA SHE WAS OUT OF WIND.........I REMEMBER DEAN COLLINS AT THE TAILSSPIN NIGHT CLUB IN HOLLYWOOD ABOUT 1949-TO56, I HAD TWO WORLD CLASS DANCE PARTNERS & THEY DID NOT LIKE THE TAILSPIN ,, TOO MUCH SHOW OFF , NOT VERY CLASSY,,SO THE HOLLYWOOD PLADIAUM & LAMADALON'S WAS OUR HANGOUT .. ONE OF MY TALL DANCE PARTNER TURNED DOWN A MOVIE OFFER WITH ME,, SHE WAS A TOP MODEL & DID NOT WANT TO LOSE HER CONNECTION'S. THAT WAS 1949,, HER NAME WAS CRIS COLE..........(I ALWAYS WONDERED WHAT MOVIE,,MUSICAL OF COURSE)

TOTALLY STUNNING WORK with all of everyone and everything involved...to think this was what was in existence when I was just getting born ......
Thanks for putting names to great dancers in so many swing movies. They usually don't get due credit.
The lindy hop is a good workout. Everyone has so much energy.

4:07 Norma Miller is well into her 90's. The fun they had.
Just saw Norma in SF this past weekend. She's almost 100 and just as sharp as ever.
such a great video! thank you Bobby!!!
Should have mentioned Marcus dancing with Jean Veloz at 4:42. He's a great dancer, too.
4:50 Jean Veloz with Marcus Koch
Does anyone know who that is dancing with Gil Brady at 8:21? She's tall and has short, dark hair.
Nice!!!

We actually know quite a lot about her! She does talks and has DVDs of her interviews, and was on The Track swing dance interview podcast podcast, and is still with us today, so we hope we can get even more interviews with her.
