I am so pleased to hear that; thank you for sharing 👍. There does not seem to be enough of an upgrade for me to try the 2, but I am so pleased Onyx Boox gave it the screen protector it needed, and I am delighted to hear it provides a fantastic writing experience 🙂.
In my Nova, the adhesive cover surprised me, for being a bit weird. But works, and when open the cover, the device goes on. As you say, the recharging procress with the cover is an issue on the Air. I also see the price a bit high compared to others. Good review.
Thanks 👍, I think the re adhesive the actual effect is I don't take it out of the cover but because the cover is so thin and light thats not really an issue.
Great summary, I am a fan of Boox and have all of their range. What you say about the glass screen and the writing experience is valid. My use has defaulted to the plastic screen Max3 and a Staedtler stylus for occasional note taking.
Thanks Rowdy 👍. I think that's an important point too. Note taking is a big draw to e-ink for me personally. But with the BOOX devices it doesn't need to be it can be more occasional like in your case because it offers so much. Re the Max 3, it's a fantastic device, I got a Max lumi for a member of my team. When I set it up for her I remember thinking this is amazing but just so big! Although she does use it as a monitor and it has really helped her stop getting headaches from eye strain. I really do feel the benefits of e-ink in the real world are not know as much as they should be 🤔. Anyway rant over 😂. Thanks again, keep well 😊.
Great review and thanks for sharing, I am on the search now and I do LOVE the design of the remarkeable2 it is really a piece of art, however I need something that can read my kindles and other formats, bookmarking and sketching, I do sketch a lot and I really don't like the glassy feeling on the iPad Pro, your tip on adding the doodroo cover seems to be perfect for having the pencil feeling that you have with the remarkeable2. I am 90% convinced to go with the Note Air, do you have experience with heavy drawing/sketching on this device? Thanks in advance
Sorry, it's taken me so long to respond, I thought had already. I don't have much experience with sketching although I have seen enough people use it for that to know it works. Have you seen the note air 2 that was announced this week and will be able to pre-order from next week? It looks like a much better writing device. It might be the answer.
Thanks, Mike. It's a brand called RIESS. I got it from one of their outlet stores, but there are numerous places to find their products. I hope that helps 👍.
Hi Sam, great question, this is the original Note Air released September 2020 👍. The Note air 2 looks great and seems to fix the screen protector issue I had with the original but I could not see enough benefit to get that product over this one as I already had it. I hope that helps 😊.
Is your onyx device still working properly? I'm curious to know the durability of onyx boox note series. Will it last for 3 to 4 years? I need one which lasts for academic and note taking purpose.
Hello, thanks for an informative video. I am thinking of buying note air soon. what are your thoughts on buying an android 10 device when android 11 is available in note air 2? Note air is currently offered on discount at good price so seems like a good option.
I would probably go for the discounted model if you think there is a big enough price difference. I would not be too worried personally about android 10 vs 11. However, I don't like the writing feel of the note air which they have fixed on the note air 2. You can fix this yourself with an after market screen protector but I would factor that in personally. A screen protector is like €34,50 from doodroo which I think is a great product I'm guessing the price difference is much bigger. I hope that helps 👍.
No, as a reading device the Kobo is the best IMHO. I often love the simplicity of specialist devices and the Kobo is fist and format a reader. The Boox products just do more, but if you don’t need it I would stick with the Kobo personally.
Hi Alex, thank you for your review! I'm thinking to buy a device, mainly for taking notes, but also reading pdf s sometimes. I have doubts regarding Kobo Elipsa or Boox Note Air, which one is better for writing? Remarkable 2 is n° 1 for this purpose? And in terms of apps sync Boox or Kono? Thank your for your help!
For writing Remarkable is just the best, I would probably say for most people it's then boox then Kobo. For reading PDFs I would put it in reverse. However if the aim is primarily writing then it sounds like the remarkable 2 would be the right device. In terms of apps personally I prefer the Kobo, I just find it simpler. The Boox is so amazing it does so much but in doing everything it seems to miss the simplicity I want from an e ink device. I hope that helps.
Hi Alex, I was going to buy a RM2 but now there is a subscription fee from $5/month for basic features for new users, so I think it's not worth it for me. Which Top 2 taking-notes device will you choose, onyx note air or supernote A5X or which one? Do you think that staedtler digital jumbo could be a good option for onyx? Thank you again for your help!!!
Thanks for the great review, Alex. I have this device and agree with everything you said. In practical use, I do find that my workflow is a bit clunky; I’m sure that’s on me and my process and not the device! It’s when the files move off the device that things go wobbly. Like using any captured notes on my computer without having to recapture/retype thoughts, to dos, etc. Would you be willing to do a sample workflow video, eg: open a file and take some notes, write a new note and then push to a computer - maybe share some top tips or workflow suggestions? How would you rate the experience of devices (Boox, Remarkable, Supernote, etc.) in the context of them being used as part of a workflow that extends beyond the device itself? Thanks again and please keep up the great videos!!!
Hi Steve, thanks for this. Just out of interest what is your current workflow / system when you take the notes off the device? I do want to do a workflow video but it’s involved and other videos keep on getting in the way but I will aim to work it out over the next several weeks. I would rate Remarkable the best for workflow, although it’s a completely unique system there is no pushing. The app is available on Mac / Pc / iOS and Android and it’s all just there (normally). The other 3 I would rank similarly although maybe Boox at the bottom because there own systems are not great, I use the Note Air with Dropbox which works ok but there are defiantly better integrated systems on other devices. I need to make a bit more time to look at my Supernote device there have been a lot of really good updates since I last used it properly 🤔. Thanks again, have a great weekend 👍.
Thanks for this review. I'm looking for an e-reader in order to stop reading on my phone. I want to read my paid subscriptions to publications (newspapers, magazines etc) plus paid email newsletters etc (eg Substack). That would be the main use (along with reading books) no other apps or social media etc (the whole idea would be to avoid distractions). Do you think this device is worth it for that? I already have an (ancient) Kindle and a Kindle library, but the problem with that ecosystem is that you have to buy subscriptions to newspapers etc through their system. I want to use my existing subscriptions. Any advice appreciated. Thanks!
@@mikidron Sorry, I think I misread your message wrong initially. Unfortunately, I don't know the answer as I have not got the Note Air 2. As tempted as I am to buy one, I am not using the Note Air enough to justify it. Great question, though and one I now want to know the answer to. 👍
Not sure about LINE, you will be able to download the Android app but if like WhatsApp you need a phone number it won't work, if you don't need a phone number it should work fine. However I have got WhatsApp web to work on the device and that works ok. Hope that helps 👍
Hello Alex, My main usage is for reading. Could you please recommend a good E reader? I was thinking Boox Note air or Remarkable2 ? But not sure which one to choose. Thanks
That was a great review! Thank you very much. I was going for a supernote 5xA, but I really didn't want to pay all the taxes as I live in Europe. This one is actually cheaper in comparison and I think it will be great for me. Thanks!
Your welcome Irene, think you for your comment and kind words 😊. I do prefer the Note Air to the Supernote, however as I said in the review personally I would get a screen protector for it to really bring it to life. But for less than the Supernote, it's not a difficult choice for me 👍.
@@irenelozano8303 Awesome 👍, I hope you find it useful. There is a bit of a steeper learning curve than most e-ink devices because it does so much but if you have any questions I will try to help 😉. Hope you get it soon and enjoy 😊.
Why the hell would they make the right edge delete everything when you hand naturally goes there when you write closer to the right side of the tablet? Literally makes it worthless
Hi Michael, it's an interesting comment, but I am not 100% sure what you mean as I can't see that it does have a way to delete everything on the right-hand side. What I have found, and what is very annoying it that it is too easy to change the page to the right-hand page that gets rid of everything because you're now on a new page. It can almost be more difficult to get back to your original page than it was to accidentally get onto the new one. 🙈
7:00 7:21 and 7:43 I noticed that once you get to the far right side of the tablet with your wrist, everything in that line gets erased and then you undo it. Is this a hotkey that you've set or is it designed that way? Thanks so much, by the way! 😁😁
@@michaelperrigo Well spotted, it's neither, just a glitch. All e-ink tablets can be a bit glitchy at times, and the Onyx was having a bit of a hissy fit 🙈.
