    Love what you did with it! Very good choice to move the apex lower

    A very comprehensive look at the style and a great example using several great techniques on the pine. Definitely one to watch over the next few years Jason!

      Thank you Xavier. Definitely one to watch develop over the coming years. I was dry pleasantly surprised to find that tree among the usual mugo pines at the garden centre.

    You’ve given me a redesign idea on a few trees we have growing. Right - now a challenge to get them to an appropriate pot. Thanks.

    this was certainly one of those videos where i was on the edge of my seat at the big chop. Great video and introduction to literati.

    An excellent introduction to this style, Jason, thank you. Explaining each step for a total novice like me, helped me to appreciate the Literati style well, though I am not capable of achieving anything at all at such an early stage of my journey. Thank you again.

      Thanks though I started not very long away by styling garden centre plants, so anyone can give it a go. 👍

    Quite an entertaining video. I'm on the lookout for something suitable to style as a literati. I'm amazed at the plants you guys find in your local garden center! And occasionally in the grocery store! Not so many choices here. Seems I live in a bonsai desert.

    • @TheBonsaiGarden
      @TheBonsaiGarden  ปีที่แล้ว

      This tree was an unusual find in a regular garden centre. White pines here tend to be 8ft garden trees costing £500

      @@TheBonsaiGarden I can't imagine paying that kind of money for a tree.

    Hey sorry I missed the end of this premiere!! Levi thought he could get all sneaky cheeky with his nurf gun, I had to show him who is boss in this house… just to make things clear it’s my wife lol

      Ha ha I think you can be forgiven for missing the end of the premiere in the circumstances. 😂😂😂

    As you say, literati is a very difficult style to do well and i believe that a lot of material is called literati without actually fitting the brief.
    A bold cut to remove the top of the tree but a good one in my opinion. Though until the new leader grows, the tree is looking more proportional than elongatedly elegant.
    Thanks for the book recommendation.

    • @TheBonsaiGarden
      @TheBonsaiGarden  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Andrew. With hindsight I did wonder if perhaps the tree was now much less a literati after that big cut. Quick, look over there. squirrel 🐿️ 😆😆😆

    To me the literati style is the most difficult style to master, there's very little room for mistake or you're loosing the right balance which is probably one of the most important characteristics of this style. I would love to try this style but I don't think I have enough experience, maybe in a few years.
    You were lucky to find a Pinus parviflora in a garden center !
    Your literati styled tree has a good start, Jason.
    I wonder if literati style is sometimes used for shohin , I'm going to look it up.

    • @TheBonsaiGarden
      @TheBonsaiGarden  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agree with you the literati style. And yea it was definitely lucky finding this tree in a regular garden centre at a good price.

    Catching up on older videos and came across this lovely one. Wonderful guide to literati - and nothing gets creative juices going better than and Tony challenge! Your creation is beautiful. How is it doing now?

    • @TheBonsaiGarden
      @TheBonsaiGarden  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks Sue. It didn’t do too well. It browned off and lost all the needles. An example of a project that wasn’t successful sadly 🥹🤗

      @@TheBonsaiGarden The truth of being a bonsai artist is not always lined with successes. You probably have learned a lot and have made some theories why the tree suffered. I'd love to hear them! I learned a lot from watching your video.

      @sueb1317 I don’t think it ever recovered from the trunk splitter.
