- India announced their squad for the white-ball tour of Sri Lanka on Tuesday, 18 July. In a surprise call, the Board of Control for Cricket in India named Suryakumar Yadav as the T20I captain instead of Hardik Pandya, who was the deputy to Rohit in the ICC tournament. Hardik, who had captained the Indian T20I side throughout the 2023 season was not chosen to be the successor of Rohit Sharma. In fact, Hardik Pandya was snubbed from the vice-captain's position as well in the Indian T20I side.

All these panelists who are defending Hardik so much but forgetting that before Hardik it was KL Rahul who was vice captain and was seen as next captain. So why not defending KL Rahul for captaincy? What BCCI has done is absolutely correct and have made the right choice in making the team and making Surya as the t20 captain and continued with Rohit as ODI and test captain.

Pandya is a great all rounder. But a very average captain. He is a great finsher but he alway choose to bat up the order when he is the captain. Disturb the balace of the team. Sometimes he comes to bowl against Travis Head in 1st over and sometime he chooses to bowl last over against Dhoni. Rohit used him perfectly as a bowler. He mostly finish his quota from 4-16 overs.

Hardik is a very good all rounder however his temperament, frequent health issues and lack of team player ability may have gone against him. Sanju being left out was unfortunate but the management must have their own reasons.

Toiled hard for 10+ years, represented India as captain in Emerging Asia Cup and Won in 2013 captaining KL, Axar,etc, still never got to debut, now that he has debuted at 30 yrs of age and skyrocketed in rankings and stature, now has become captain. Sky's captaincy is justified, they needed someone permanent. Who are not prone to injuries. JBumrah can't be played every series and to be rested for work load management. Secondly same injury concern for HP. So basically Sky become the automatic choice.
Also we need to consider HP's captaincy experience befor WC when Rohit was rested and HP was given captaincy, when his attitude as captain was at question. While captaining Mumbai, there were noises of division politics. Even if we ignore Mumbai Indians experience we can't deny other facts.
