    These videos deserve more views. Thomas is absolutely prolific in his video output and attention to detail. In fact, I think his sheer number of videos, length of said videos, and near-constant upload rate might be intimidating to some people. This channel is basically becoming an encyclopedia of car reviews and we are lucky to have it.

    Always the ultimate details for enthusiasts from Autogefuhl. Good commentary and also camera view to the front on the driving part. Nice cars the PHEV’s. Shame about the price and limited electric range! A 60 mile electric range would be good! Many thanks Thomas and Team.

    • @alfonsodriver1324
      @alfonsodriver1324 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      A PHEV with a genuine 60 mile EV range - actual, proper, real-world 60 mile range minimum, in all conditions, winter/summer. Preferably a bit more! Then if you could charge overnight at home, the majority of my driving would be EV, and I don't mind carrying around the ICE for long road-trips, and in order to avoid me or my wife ever having to visit a charging station... I'd hardly ever use the ICE, so perhaps a diesel - shock - would be preferable for the ICE as diesel fuel has a longer shelf life, and the diesel would only be used in rural areas or motorways, and may be more economical on long road-trips. Another PHEV advantage over an BEV, say an emergency calls you out in the early evening when the battery hasn't had a chance to re-charge, you have to drive 100 miles to pick up your daughter or visit your granny - the car still available...

    Hey Thomas, Love your reviews, and the long thorough dive into the cars!! I would love to buy the laser light option here in America. But a slight correction to your comment, it is not the police but is the federal gov't keeping them out. Specifically NHTSA or national highway traffic safety administration that stubbornly refuses to improve lighting. It is my understanding that specifically the american mfg dont want the change as it would force them to spend money improving the dreadful lighting they produce on u.s. autos. It may be changing though as the iihs or insurance institute for highway safety which carries some sway over federal regulations, is finally noticing that poor quality lighting contributes to increase in accidents, costing ins companies $$. So, iihs is now giving a judgement on the quality of headlights for new vehicles. Hope this helps clarify why our lighting regs are still in the darker ages! thanks again for your great work, ~ Roger

    • @dwergmaster
      @dwergmaster 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe the US is making a better choice here compared to EU regulators. laser headlights are bullshit - just an immense danger due to blinding others.
      BMW’s automatic high beam system is not good enough to accurately recognise oncoming traffic a kilometer away. I’m blinded daily by especially 2 series.

    No matter whether it's Audi, Mercedes, BMW or VW, they all do that length extension with plastic stuff.
    Did they all get the design wrong in the first attempt?
    Why not reducing the length and the amount of plastic applications on the front for a change ?

    Thomas you told me on another video that there are quality differences between non animal upholstery options. And from your video i have to agree. When you touch it, the material certainly looks like a very high grade animal leather. It moves very subtle and you can see the softness. Would be interesting to see how it wears over time, but BMW wouldn't put it as standard in the US version if they haven't tested it considerably. Really want to drop by a BMW dealer and have a feel myself, once showrooms open again here in Ireland. Hopefully in June.

      i think that’s mostly a problem of using alcantara on the steering wheel. it’s quite durable and wear resistant on seats, from my experience.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. As a start, please tune in to what the animal leather industry tried to do here with our channel: th-cam.com/video/nP_CvLlaFlI/w-d-xo.html
      In general, depending on the animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter. However even if meat would be the reason no.1 in other cases, the hide remains one of the most profitable body parts. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you accept it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and destroys the environment, you make them more profitable. Also, if you turn the argument around "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize how biased the argument is. After all, would you care for which exact body part you would be murdered? Or imagine someone robs you on the street and beats you to death - would it matter to you if it was for your Smartphone or for your purse?
      The animal agriculture industry occupies 2/3 of all farm land on this planet which cannot be used for direct human nutrition then. That is extremely inefficient. The no.1 cause for deforestation is the animal industry. It is also one of the biggest contributor to climate change. The amount of land, resources, energy and water being used is beyond imagination.
      For the alternative, you can either use artificial fabrics which can be made from recyclables (we have already shown a lot of vehicles that use great fabric seats from PET-bottles etc.) or more and more also from plant-based materials (like Pinatex). And even if you would create a seat completely with petroleum without a recycling share, the amount of oil being used for that is nothing in comparing just to once fueling up your car.
      In practical reasons, fabric or microfibre seats are just more useful. You do not sweat in summer and it is not cold in winter. And if you want the slick look or something to wipe clean easier, that is possible with animal free leatherette.
      Using animal skin on seats is a major issue of animal rights, human rights - and after all it is just common sense what is better both for the environment and just more practical and more luxurious for the customer. We cannot change what we have bought in the past (that also counts for ourselves of course!), but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future.

    As a BMW enthousiast the only thing I am disappointed with is that you can't change the instrument panel, now you have this kind of spacey instrument panel. I liked the dails and in my 745e I would love it a bit more classic but still sporty. As all is digital it should be possible to create this....

    Agreed with the comment regarding wireless CarPlay : a wired connection is allways more stable. Here in France, the wireless CarPlay always disconnects when approaching an electronic tollbooth on the highway, which is annoying because your navigation (waze) stops. After passing the tollbooth, the CarPlay connection reconnects automatically. Also a downside is that using wireless CarPlay with high demanding apps (waze, Spotify) in combination with wireless charging causes the phone to overheat and shutdown. I’ve resorted to charging via cable as it causes much less heat.

    The pre-LCi was okay looking, albeit boring. BMW has done a great job with the LCi. It looks stunning and fresh, eventhough the major changes are really only the fromt and rear light. Def one of the most attractive cars in the BMW lineup right now

    Not a fan of BMW or MB but this one looks really nice. I do like the fact that they kept the main knobs, the space in the back is better than in the E Klasse, the seats look very comfortable etc. etc. In conclusion I would buy BMW instead of MB, even if I am not a fan of these brands. Very good review. I love this brand but I'm french and I am very disappointed with the new 5 series engines offered on the French market. 530 e, 520i and 550i (and M5 Competition) for hybrid and fuel. No 545e. With a 550i 20 000 € of CO2 taxes in France, with a 545e 0 € . 4 or 8 cylinders but not 6. And it's not a problem of regulation.Is it a marketing or condescension issue ?

    I really see little to no visual difference between G20/3 series, one saving grace is lack those irritating click click temperature buttons and instead the knob is still present, but that is pretty much it...in Australia where price difference between 3 and 5 can be nearly 50% it makes 0 sense to go up unless you have spare money

    I very like the grey one. However I'm a little sceptical about the subtle to none interior changes. Overall a great car and I'm really considering this as my next vehicle. The only problem is that some say that driving dynamics aren't that great. Some of my friends advise me to stick with the G20. This 5 series 6 cylinder shows great fuel consumption figures, so impressive!!!

    Great review once again Thomas! One drawback of the Sensatec seems to be that the seat heating is not available (at least not on the configurator as of now) CORRECTION: heating in front is possible, in back it is not, see comment below

    really liked it, 7 or 8 series tries too hard in design department to look stylish.. the 5 series have more humble and confident look to it.. beauty in subtle design.
    maybe MB wins over bmw in high end luxury cars, but the 5 series wins over any car even MB in it's category/size.
