Matchbox did a Christmas 5 pack a while back and the cars from that set are going up. I picked up a couple of the Team Hot Wheels 5 packs for £2.30. Reduced to clear at my local Tesco.
I agree with you. Damn!! I just love the old packaging of the Hotwheels 5 pack. you can see the car from front, back and side. I personally have a blue Careera GT from an old 5 pack and I love it.

You missed the fact the 1st 5 pack has the National ParksToyota Land Cruiser which resells for $7-$10 dollars on its own . National Parks almost always increase in value .
The price for buying bulk makes little sense when there is no discount. But Mattel knows collectors will take the hit to get a couple cars they gotta have.
Very interesting video, I'm an avid collector of 5-packs both from MBX & HW and it's cool to see that some of these cars are highly coveted. Funny that my latest video upload is really similar in regards to the latest Nightburnerz, down to the 2 purple McLarens, I do think we have very similar taste in diecast. I completely agree with why multipacks keep there value loose but it's really uncommon for these to pass the $10 mark individually. Condition would be key and that's a hard evaluation to make when loose. Great video. By the way what group do you normally sell/trade with on Facebook?
The doughnut truck in the City 5 pack that's on the shelves right now is similar. I didn't want to buy the full five pack, but when I looked up the individual car, it was like $9 shipped (I can't find any current ebay listings for it though). IIRC, the truck in that pack runs 2-3 bucks too. It makes sense for the multipack exclusive cars to hold more value when they're open. The packs themselves just take up so much space. Going back to that breadbox five pack, the truck is good, the fire engine is okay, but the green car and the helicopter are fugly. So by keeping the pack together, you're forcing yourself to keep those 1-3 undesirable vehicles and you're sacrificing all the space the packaging takes up. It might be interesting to look into the exclusives for the larger multipacks. The purple Lambo Hurican in the 9 and 20 packs this year runs about $4-5, that's half the cost of a nine pack, and a quarter of a 20.....

I don’t think there’s a right or wrong to collecting, everyone collects the way they can/want. I think the thing we all need to remember is RESPECT each other even if we don’t share the same beliefs 👍.
i got a 5 pack the batman set nd i wont opend it im just gonna leave it just like that nd 5 packs for me are better cause here in netherlands some loose cars are cheap but 5 packs you get 5 for 5 or 6 euro’s nd loose cars are for €2.50 in some places
extraction cost is a larger factor in the price. why spend 10 for 4 cars you don't want when you can spend 8 for the one you want? this drives up the single car price by default because there is no other way.
