This is such a terrific video! Thanks so much for sharing your "secrets" with us. I've learned so much. Just happened to come across your video while doing some research on the Minc machine. I've been debating about getting one for awhile now. Your video clinched it for me. Thanks. I also realized that I have the same printer...exactly. Never knew about the tray to manually feed my paper through. I've had my printer for a couple of years or more and have ALWAYS had trouble using card stock weight papers. They get stuck in the printer! I'm excited to try the manual method. Nor did I realize there was a separate setting to do so. I also appreciate all the detail you shared about using the printer to get the best toner results...and the paper information also. Thanks again for all of your help. Love the way you design on the iPad. Your design is lovely.
THANK YOU for your video about foiling! It was enough detail with easy to understand instructions. I've never done this before and am considering adding it.
I want to say thank you this tutorial, I have been trying to do foil prints for my home and have failed at ever attempt. I do not run a business, but understand what you say at the beginning of your video about being reluctant to disclose you method. Unfortunately however I now understand the reason for my failures, the biggest one being I do not have the right equipment to be able to do these. I will therefore be looking to support you on Etsy by buying the prints from you rather than going to the expense of buying equipment I will probably only use a couple of times. You have also saved me hours of frustration trying to do the prints with what I do have ... an inkjet printer and a laminator ~ which was never going to work. Again Thank you x x x
Hi Wendy. So glad you find this tutorial insightful! I remember the frustration when I first started doing foiling and trying to get it right. So I wanted to help people as much as possible. Lovely to hear you’d like to support my Etsy shop. I take custom commission, so if there is something specific you would like that you can see in my shop, then please message me. Thanks :)
Hello, Beautiful. I'm so happy I found your channel. I have ordered some toner reactive foil, and will give this a try as soon as it arrives. Thank you for sharing this beautiful technique. Have a lovely day.
Thank you for some great tips. The things I have learnt is always use a carrier sheet when using a laminator as I ruined a great laminator when I used it without. If you are foiling using a laminator then adding a piece of card stock under the card you are foiling helps. But as you say in the video foiling is trial and error. But when it goes right it is definitely a wow moment.
I used to run them through an otherwise unused old laser printer as blank sheets, it went wonderfully for a few months till a sheet of foil wrapped itself around the fuser unit 🤣 You are spot on with the cardstock tip, and I find parchment paper on top really works well. I have also foiled in a heat press with outstanding results, but the downside is the energy bill.
Thank you so much I have been struggling with toner smudging while printing and changing the print settings easily fixed that I have been looking everywhere for a solution 💜💜💜
Thank you so much for this very informative video. I have been struggling with foiling for a long time. I’m a terrible perfectionist and it has never looked quite right to me. I have tried loads of different card but, thanks to your suggestion, am now going to try silk card. I can’t thank you enough!
Milly, thanks so much for directing me to your video. This has been super interesting and insightful and I appreciate you taking the time to make it and giving away your secrets. I hope to make our light hands and foot prints even better. X
Can I just say thank you so much for taking the time to share this video. I have truly searched everywhere for a video that explains what toner reactive foiling is and this is the most informative video I have seen. I’m currently trying to make my own wedding invitations and save the dates and I’m about ready to pull my hair out. I couldn’t figure out how people were getting the foil onto their cards! I bought the foil quill and it’s just not working out. I’m going to give this a try. Do you know if this will work on the clear vellum? Any recommendations?
Aww thanks lovely! So happy to hear you found this video helpful! And congratulations on your engagement! I actually started foiling because I did my own save the dates and wedding invites! I def had to to do a lot of research to even figure out what to do. So wanted to help other people as much as possible. I have seen people use this foiling method on vellum but I haven’t really tried it myself, so worth just testing it out to see what works :)
Hi, did it work with the velum?, I have been searching everywhere, because I want my business Thank You cards to be velum. Hope everything worked out well for you.
Wow this is soo helpful thank you!! I have just invested in Patsy May foil it machine but all your tips are just the insight I was looking for! Thank you, such a fab video!! 💕💕👍🏻👍🏻 Your foil drawer is 😍 oh I love a good peel back! 🤤
Hi, thanks for this great video! Is it possible to "foil" only the edges of a design (or at least some details) and print the rest of the design with colors?
Glad you found the video helpful :) yes it is! You’ll need to print the parts you want in colour first using an inkjet, and then the foiled part with a laser printer
Hi I was wondering that if we foiled it first and some bits didn't get foiled. Could we get more foil and add it to the missing bits and then laminate it?
@@BlinkLettering thanks :) I’m guessing it’s relative to the paper thickness the printer can take also …. With your printer what is the thickest you use ?
Hi there, I have recently watched your video and decided to use your link to buy the printer you recommend as I want to make some foiled stickers using the method you use. I have printed the stickers from Cricut Design Space however the text and image (stars) look fuzzy. It is like they have little dots on the outline. Is there a way to fix this please as I have no idea. Thank you in advance, H.
Thanks for your informative video! I was wondering if you have experience in printing stuff which requires a big solid surface of foil. Example if you would foil a round ball, star or something which is completely filled. Whats your experience in that?
I’ve printed a few things that covers more foil area. It looks amazing when it turns out right! But it’s more obvious when there are specs or print issues
Have you any experience of foil layers. I wish to do a layer of foil, then an outline over the top? Have you any experience in putting the foiled sheet back in the printer, printing another toner layer over the top, then perhaps layering another foil colour? The printer you have - is there a foolproof way of lining up (i can see many wasted attempts of designs out of register). Would be very grateful if you have any advice? Thank you
I’ve personally only ever used this printer, so I wouldn’t know which other brands are good I’m afraid. It just needs to be a laser printer, and mono printers work better than colour ones
Well done Milly- Are you still using the same printer- It's really hard to find the right printer for gold foiling today- the main sellers won't recco a printer. Today I was told to print Rich Black and use a colour printer then I stumbled on your video- Rich Black with a mono. So you would say your printer works for you in mono with rich black - or have you move on? Thank you kindly David
I have bought the paper and the minc machine and it still isnt working for me..... I dont understand. I bought the foil on ebay but it isnt the official minc one. is this why?
Your toner may be running low. Also double check you are printing a black colour and not a dark grey. Toner prints tend to print in dots so if you are printing a grey colour it will use less dots. Might also be worth getting your printer to do a clean/print test 😊
@@BlinkLettering will check that out :) I don't know how to do a clean print test haha. Writing is fine, but when it comes to printing from photoshop it seems to be patchy, tonor has barely been used so theirs still lots of ink. Still bought another tonor just incase but still haha
I would check if your image in photoshop is fully black. Also make sure you’re printing at a high dpi. Have a little google of your printer model to find out how to clean it or do print tests ☺️
@@BlinkLettering I've done a print test but the line at the bottom that fades darker, it has white spots missing. The image is fully black due to a colour overlay and its missing patches in the print test too, I know inkjet printers can do a head clean and nozzle checks etc, but I have no idea on what to do with a laser printer if it's patchy
I’m trying to find someone who willing to try one “we r keeper foil” through that laminated and responding to me because I’m trying to use it up. I’m not fan of their prodiucts. It’s consuming so I want to use the foil sheets up fast as I can if someone is willing to try test thjs and let me know!!!!

What is the maximum weight your printer goes to for paper? Does it handle a variety of cars stock?

Hi Molly what gsm of paper/card stock do you tend to use ? I’m having trouble deciding which is best for my vouchers I’m designing - thanks in advance
I use a variety depending on the project :) you can buy individual sheets, so I recommend buying a variety and see what works best for you

Have you tried running the foil back in through your printer? I have seen others do this instead of using a laminator/minc machine

Terrific tutorial!
Is there a way of masking an area off that you don’t want foiling ?
You can pop a piece of paper on top or baking paper is better as the tone is less likely to transfer on to it ☺️
Thank you !
Hiya, love your videos! I was just wondering what the maximum gsm was that the printer you have mentioned in the description takes?
Hey :) thanks! I haven’t tried anything thicker than 300gsm x

Hi Milly, what app do you use for vectorizing?
where can we that foil print machine?
what software are you using to print it? I couldn't quite work it out!
I used Adobe Acrobat to print :) Apologies that I didn't mention this!
hello great video 👌🥰 you use which brand of white paper and grammage please
Hey :) great to hear you like this video. Info on what card I use is in the description
What grammage do you use? I’m concerned it won’t take 300gms
Hi where did u get the draw from where you store your foil?
They are from IKEA, the range is called Alex drawers 😊
Wish I watched this yesterday after buying two wrong printers my toner printer bends the paper 🫣
Can you refoil?
I have bought the paper and the minc machine and it still isnt working for me..... I dont understand. I bought the foil on ebay but it isnt the official minc one. is this why?
Getting the perfect foil is a fine balancing act. If you haven’t got the right type of foil the. This is definitely an issue
hi Milly!
can you please tell me the actual number for your rich black color?
Thanks :)
I share the number for my rich black at 11:15 😊
What do I do if my prints have little spots missing? Not the foil, but the actual prints seem to have patches missing

I’m not sure if I missed something, why not just treat the file, originally in adobe illustrator rather procreate?
In this video I do the calligraphy by hand in procreate, and then take it in to illustrator to vectorise as this is best for foiling
@@BlinkLettering ahhhh many thanks, I was listening more than watching 😊
After a few years has much changed in the way you do things?
does it work on an inkjet printer?
No it doesn’t, I had to be a laser printer. I explain more about this at 4:30 😊
So it only adheres to blk toner ?
It can stick to colour tonor but is unlikely to work as well
what is the weight of your paper?
It depends what I’m doing, I change between the 120gsm and the 300gsm
