I would be most interested in reading the scripts, future scripts, after it was proven that Wes was Jock. You know they exist. Because ditching the storyline was done at the last minute.
He wasn't Jock Ewing . Wes parmalee or Wyatt Haynes was in the helecopter crash with Jock and had total memory loss believing he was Jock that's how he managed to convince miss Ellie almost destroying her marriage to Clayton. Jock unfortunately ended up at the bottom of a swamp
When I heard about Jock Ewing coming back into Dallas ( years ago). I imagined at first that JR would be happy to have his daddy back & would work with Wes/Jock to get rid of Clayton. Of course it turned out to be the opposite effect only JR & Bobby didn’t believe him and other family members did.
She wasn't. She was emotional and upset because of her love for Jock. She was torn between Clayton and Wes because on a certain level she believed that Wes could be Jock.
I have a question, if Jock and Wyatt Haines were in the same chopoer , why did Haines parmalee survive and Jock didn't ? And did Haines parmalee know what happened to Jocks body ? Did he see what happened to Jocks body?
The Wyatt Haines explanation was only thought up at the last minute when it became clear to the Producers that Steve Forrest playing Jock wasn't going to be accepted by the fans.
there is a book, Dallas The Complete Series, where the show's producers did hire an actor to play Jock after JD's death. that man was Howard Keel. Jock would have survived the crash but would have had surgery to change everything....that was until HK said that JD was a very close friend of his, and it really touched him that JD, after all his hard work, became a superstar with Dallas, so he turned down playing Jock and CF was created for him.
@@twc3546 Actually, Jim Davis was already dead in real life by the time Howard Keel came on to play Clayton Farlow, near the end of season 4 but the show's producers didn't want to kill the Jock Ewing character off just yet and had the character in South America offscreen when the Sue Ellen/J.R. custody battle/divorce storyline played out with Sue Ellen running off to the Southern Cross with Dusty and Clayton protecting her and John Ross. I am pretty sure JohnBlack2345's assertion that Howard Keel was meant to play Jock Ewing as a direct replacement for Jim Davis is incorrect since Davis was unable to perform due to his terminal illness (multiple myeloma) and did not appear in the last two episodes of season 4. His character was kept alive off screen for the first 12 episode of season 5. As I said before, Davis died while the fourth season was still airing and Keel made his first appearance as Farlow during the fourth season, so he was never meant to be a replacement for Davis as Jock Ewing. In fact, the producers had already made the decision when Davis died that they wouldn't recast Jock Ewing with another actor and even considered leaving his name and photos in the opening credits for the duration of the series. As a Dallas native, I am glad they never recast Jock Ewing with another actor. Jim Davis IS Jock Ewing and no one could have played him like he did.
The Wes storyline ended too abruptly. Although they said Xrays showed Wes had the same injuries as Jock. Even if they were in the same crash they wouldn’t have identical scars. But did Wes come thru the rehab thinking he was really Jock due to hearing actual Jocks ramblings when he had the fever
Yeah, I guess we suppose to believe a delirious, feverish rambling Jock told Wyatt Haines about Harv Smithfield. And Jock had a picture of him handy in South America. SMH 😂
@@jameshendricks2197 he was supposed to be originally. When Bobby returned from the dead, the show lost credibility and didn’t want to resurrect another character. I liked Wes but not as jock. Agreed. Although the new Dallas from a few years back was pretty damn good I think. JR's Masterpiece and Cliff going down for it was the crowned jewel of the show. Hagman would have been very proud I think.
@@johanbrand8601 No way the whole thing with JR marrying a woman that was what 30 years younger than him? Some farmer's daughter? That was a joke that pretty much jumped the shark of the show.
I loved JR and thought he could have been fine on his own show. However, I think the show jumped the shark for me when Farlow married Miss Ellie and suddenly a migration flow of every Tom, Dick and Harry was coming onto South Fork claiming to be a Ewing. Who wasn't a Ewing by then? I think around season 7 or 8 it should have ended because it got too silly and predictable. The Writers completely lost control of the script and the show just became a merry go round of Husband, boy friend and wife swapping-all on the same property of course with everyone still being friends and so understanding. Sorry, even though I took Drama and literary film study in college, not even my suspension of belief can go that far. Pam with Bobby, Jenna with Bobby, Jenna with Ray, Pam with Mark. It became the Melrose Place of the night time soaps. Everyone's screwing everyone else more than you would if there was a Swingers party going on at the ranch. Every time Writers don't have any real story lines or can't come up with any, they fall back on every body swinging from one sex partner with another. Yet, all that took place and no fire works, no fights? I mean really, come on. In real life people kill each other over things like that. NO one, especially Bobby, is non chalet about stuff like that. I think the producers punted on a lot of real life action that could have been used from how people really re-act when this kind of stuff goes on. But they kept it all composed and with everyone so polite and all this non-sense. People just aren't like that and the Writers really lost grip on some sense of reality when it comes to human behavior. I kind of stopped watching around season 7 or 8 but always stepped in just to watch JR do his thing. If TV is supposed to be as realistic as possible and you have them behaving so far from what real people do in certain situations in real life than its just impossible for me to watch and enjoy. It took JR and a bunch of other GROWN men 8 or 9 years to leave a house where they have no privacy and everyone is in their marriage business. I just find it old after a while. Just like the Cliff Barnes vs JR storyline. IT just seems to me a person is sick in the head if they can't move on from a guy they hate and get on with his life and realize he's not in JR's League. But I have the first 6 or 7 seasons on DVD. However, like most great shows, the first two or three years are always the best because they're new and the story lines are taking shape. I still say Dallas was a better show than Dynasty, although I watched both until the story lines got old and repetitive. I miss Larry. I watched him as a kid as Major Nelson. What a wonderful person that guy was. He will always be an Icon.
He thing that always gets me, if these Ewings were multi millionaires or billionaires, why did they all live in that South Fork Ranch together? My God, if my family was that wealthy I sure wouldn't want to live at home with my Parents. I'd have my own mansion to live in
Wes Parmelee was going to be revealed as Jock. But, fans didn't like it, because they felt it was a disservice to Jim Davis. So, the writers made Parmelee a business associate of Jock, who was on the helicopter.
I know right! He did remember some things and passed all their tests. I personally believe he was Jock. But to your point when he stood up there he said I have known most of you all my life. Okay some people could have quizzed him. Now as the story goes a deleriois/rambling/feverish Jock kept talking about his life. And Wyatt Haines (who they thought was Parmalee) was there at the time. Now come on you mean to tell me Jock would mention things about most of the people in that room? And Parmalee would remember come on. So correct they his family and some of the people in that room should have quizzed. him.
@@connerhuston2613 The Wyatt Haines explanation didn't make sense, especially as Wes's X ray's were identical to Jock's. Two different men cannot have identical X ray's.

I thought this made an interesting story and the actor was good. However, if he had turned out to be the "real Jock" I think it would have been an insult to the late Jim Davis. He made Jock Ewing come alive and the character died when Davis died.
They Originally had planed for Wes to Really Be Jock. but Fans out cry at the time and outrage made them change their mind they didn't want someone else playing Jock. if you watch the whole Storyline.. you see hints come out that he really might be jock. as the storyline went on.
That's not true. By the time, the season 10 episode premiered, the show had already filmed Steve Forrest's last episode, revealing Wes was a con. There was no fan outrage, at least none that prompted him to leave the show as he was already gone when his episodes aired.
I'm not sure. When they first brought him on in season 9 as Ben Stivers, I thought he would turn out to be Jason Ewing, Jock's brother and Jack and Jamie's father.
Yes, I thought that scene was an indicator that maybe Ben was Jason with a new face/plastic surgery because Jack got a strange vibe from him and the storyline was that Jack and Jason didn't get along.
And after listening to this clip once again. That's another thing Parmalee said Anyone or any of you wanting to do business with Ewing oil the man to talk to is ME. So how is Wyatt Haines (the guy Bobby said Parmalee was at the end of the story) suppose to know anything about the oil business? I would have loved if they questioned him about that. If Parmalee was able to answer those questions what excuse could they use then? Parmalee was Jock
He actually was really meant to be Jock Ewing recast with another actor (Steve Forrest) but some of the fans of the show got into a hissy fit & felt it was disrespectful to Jim Davis who had originally played the role.

He was gone so fast. Didn’t really let the storyline unfold
It's apparent that he was going to be Jock until the cast told the brass they didn't like it so they scrapped the idea.
I would be most interested in reading the scripts, future scripts, after it was proven that Wes was Jock.
You know they exist.
Because ditching the storyline was done at the last minute.
JR “the hellll you are” brilliant
Ellie and Ray both knew he was Jock. I think deep down JR and Bobby knew it too, but neither wanted to give up their power.
I don't know about Bobby and especially JR believing he was Jock. The other two especially Miss Ellie yes.
Who the sold that SOB a ticket!
This guy was obviously not Jock. He was younger and his personality was nothing like his.
He was Jock. Remember, we never saw his final conversation between him and Ellie.
Mrs. Ellie was spineless.
She wasn't. She was emotional and upset because of her love for Jock. She was torn between Clayton and Wes because on a certain level she believed that Wes could be Jock.
THE HELL U ARE JR SAID!!!!!!!
JohnBlack2345 Clayton was on several episodes when Jim was still alive, so he couldn’t have been Jock
@@Chemdawg2009 there were 2 episodes where Keel and Davis both appeared, however they had no scenes together
Identity theft....the 1986 version
Why even start this if not going to finish it?
Steve Forrest was an awesome actor
He looks nothing like Jock
How did Wes recognize Harv Smithfield and he even knew who Jock's tailor was! 🤔
Because he was jock!!
@@donnn-ow4rj Lol!!! 😆
In the dream, his name was Ben Stivers and he was meant to be Jock. I think they originally meant to keep this but backed out. That’s why there was so much plot holes. Not bc the show wanted you to wonder if he was Jock, but bc they just flat out backed out and created an undoable mess
He was Jock. He saw his family's true nature and that they would rather have him dead. So he just left town lol
The last great storyline of Dallas.
Agreed. Although the new Dallas from a few years back was pretty damn good I think. JR's Masterpiece and Cliff going down for it was the crowned jewel of the show. Hagman would have been very proud I think.
I did like new Dallas too. I liked JR's letter to Bobby.."That malignant little troll Barnes"...LOL Classic JR to the end.
@@KeithFroehlich07 this was the worst storyline of the entire series!
@@johanbrand8601
No way the whole thing with JR marrying a woman that was what 30 years younger than him? Some farmer's daughter?
That was a joke that pretty much jumped the shark of the show.
JR Is a total Bad ass and a sceamer but you gatta love him this scene is a CLASSIC J R said your not my Daddy
Maybe Keels best work on Dallas?
MultiCased Yes! You ain't never lied! 😃
Keel's best work on Dallas? That ain't saying much. Keel sucked.
@@reneep9972 Sad but true. He was a good character Clayton but in no way was he better than Jock Ewing.
@@reneep9972 not a fraction as much as you
I loved JR and thought he could have been fine on his own show.
Right and Major Nelson is who he will always preferentially be to me
He thing that always gets me, if these Ewings were multi millionaires or billionaires, why did they all live in that South Fork Ranch together? My God, if my family was that wealthy I sure wouldn't want to live at home with my Parents. I'd have my own mansion to live in
The thing...
Wes Parmelee was going to be revealed as Jock. But, fans didn't like it, because they felt it was a disservice to Jim Davis. So, the writers made Parmelee a business associate of Jock, who was on the helicopter.
Some epic hair in this episode
Great storyline back in 1986
One of my favorite storylines since Jock died.
Just a shame that they didn't follow through & make Steve Forrest's character Jock.
@@Via_The_Void , the prevailing reason was fan backlash didn't want him to be Jock.
@@connerhuston2613 I know, such a shame though as Steve Forrest would've been a great Jock Ewing. Sadly it wasn't meant to be.
That is the type of thing that Jock would do. 😂
What am I missing here? Couldn't any family member quiz Wes to see if he was really Jock?

Clayton earned his stripes here. He was badass.

Jock had retired . Now 5 yrs later he wants take over again. Not something real jock would do
It's Colonel Sanders!
This is Clayton At his best never cared for his character but everyone is united behind Clayton there.
I thought this made an interesting story and the actor was good. However, if he had turned out to be the "real Jock" I think it would have been an insult to the late Jim Davis. He made Jock Ewing come alive and the character died when Davis died.
This storyline was an experiment to see if they could recast the role of Jock with another actor. It sadly didn't work.
And this is why Dallas was sooooooooooooooooooooooooo much better than dynasty
Dallas was a lot more grittier than Dynasty.
"The hell you are, everybody can see you're not my daddy"
They should have made him jock for real the character. Was needed
Yes, I thought that scene was an indicator that maybe Ben was Jason with a new face/plastic surgery because Jack got a strange vibe from him and the storyline was that Jack and Jason didn't get along.
radrobd in the early years movie jock and Jason had a big fight the night of the oil fires in pride texas and they parted ways
Of course he was Jock. The Wyatt Haines explanation was only used when they had to write him off the show.
A lot of Grey hair there.
This fiction was stranger than fiction.
It would have been interesting if Wes Parmalee turned out to be Jock Ewing. Great storyline.
He actually was really meant to be Jock Ewing recast with another actor (Steve Forrest) but some of the fans of the show got into a hissy fit & felt it was disrespectful to Jim Davis who had originally played the role.
@@Via_The_Void and when Bobby was resurrected the show got cold feet and didn’t want to resurrect another character. They had also done in the beginning of dream season with mark graison. Problem with paramalee is after the cold feet it created plot holes and continuity issues that left many fans believing he was Jock but walked away. That was not the plan
How ridiculous! I had not even known as a kid they had tried to bring back Jock! No wonder my family and I stopped watching after 1984. As if getting rid of Barbara Bel Geddes was not bad enough. The show was already going downhill....
