Surprised there's no mention of perhaps one of the first ever GOATs of fighting games which is Ryan Hart. Man was a pioneer of competitive fighting games in multiple avenues, insane versatility in both 2D and 3D games, and also the source for one of the coldest quotes ever in FGC history: "I've won more tournaments than you'll ever enter. I've forgotten more about games than you'll ever know."
The competition for KOF globally outside the U.S. is redhot, and Xiaohai is god-tier level master of this entire franchise. (KOF is also arguably a more difficult game than Street Fighter.) Justin Wong is almost singlehandedly keeping legacy titles alive, so he's a god in more ways than one.
If there's a FGC mount rushmore Kaz and Tokido should be 2 of the first 3 spots, not gonna lie. Glad Xiaohai's dominance is mentioned here since some people try to discredit the franchise
I agree about Kazunoko and Tokido I haven't included just because I already have a whole video gassing him up lol. In reality there's more than 4 spots on this list but it's just a fun thought experiment I guess for who I'd pick if I HAD to pick 4.

For me, being on a Mount Rushmore is being at the top of many different games. Basically sustained greatness over a long period of time and encompassing multiple genres of fighting games. Tokido and Kazunoko are the two names that fit the most. They won almost everything there is to win and are still very strong competitors even now on any games they touch. The next would be Justin Wong since he has had similar success, even if he's pretty much semi-retired now and is more of a content creator. The last is Daigo, mainly because of his impact on the whole fighting game scene itself. For a lot of people, Daigo IS fighting games. If it's a top 5, then I'd add Sonic Fox. He's still young compared to everyone else, but the success he had on the grandest of stages definitely puts him as one of the greats.
I mostly know SonicFox from Skullgirls. Watching them make some of the wildest grand finals I've ever seen, again and again, is probably what got me into fighting games at all.
At first I was like no Daigo?! but I can agree it’s a bit neck and neck when it comes to them. They both dominated in their respective games, Justin’s being Marvel vs Capcom. I really haven’t been following them enough lately to definitively give it to one or the other. It’s just a shame you could technically only pick four 😂.
Ryan is an interesting case. He's one of the greatest but his achievements kinda pale when you realize he competed in a time when much less people were entering tournaments. Even without considering that, he's got less major wins than any of these guys have evo titles AND his "career" was much shorter than Jwong's or Tokido. It feels like old NBA vs new. You kinda can't compare cuz it isn't fair
As for SF, the most successful fighting game in terms of competition, it's hard to say who is the greatest. There are so many names to mention. Daigo and JWong were leaders of the whole FGC. Tokido, MenaRD, Kazunoko, Angrybird, they all have been famous for years and still play at a high level. No one is or was really dominating SF.
I would honorable mention MKLeo. Not a lot of FGC overlap but has been one of the most dominant smash players in the last decade. Ended Smash 4 as the best and was undisputed #1 in Ultimate from launch until last year. Down the road if Leffen continues to win in fgc games at a high level though he would be the smash player to make it.

Maybe a hot take, I don't know. I feel like we haven't seen enough yet. Arslan is the king of Tekken 7 hands down, no question. But Sonic Fox has been a force in the last 3 iterations of MK. The levels/pools of competition are hard to compare as well, so who knows

Hey man, if I can only talk about 4 people, I'm bound to pick and choose haha. But the Ryan Hart one is interesting to speak on. Ryan Hart is undoubtedly a legend in the community and to this day is a remarkably strong player. But his achievements are also somewhat diluted against those of the people I mentioned. He played most when fighting games and esports were very young in terms of competition and stakes. Him winning events then is hard to compare to people winning events now where there's dozens more pros in attendance and more people in general. I'm not downplaying what he's done/is doing but it's not easy to equate it to any of the achievements listed in this video. Valle is a similar case which probably goes without saying

Well... Ryan Hart is British, so less public "hype" in comparison to *cough* U *cough* S. Also he is from a time when social media is not around, and FGC wasn't in the "pro" circuit you could say. But honestly he is definitely up there with the best during his peak years. I remember when VF4 was out, played in both US and UK, Hart went over to the US the first time and dominated, which made US players to train harder. And wasn't there a similar story when he went over to Japan for a Tekken tournament and won? Which is considered one of the hardest regions back then. 90s? Anyway, feels like ancient times. 😂
Ryan Hart is awesome and there's lots of others on this list who are up for nomination like Chris G or Kazunoko but when I gotta keep it to 4, it just comes down to what you value. Ryan Hart is always a killer, I wad there when he beat Idom in pools at Evo for SFV. But his legacy achievements are somewhat overshadowed by players who were around at the same time as him and are still winning/competing at the highest of levels in multiple games like Xiaohai or Daigo. When it comes to CH d/f+2 into PEWGF with Kazuya, I honestly think he was the pioneer of this technique in Tekken. It is one of the hardest techniques to pull off, and he once did it 7 times in a row. He could do it under pressure, he could do it in Grand Finals matches with ease..long before the technique was simplified. There are many stories about Ryan Hart, my favorite is the one where he money matched someone who called him out, he beat them 10-0 and left the guy sitting in his chair . There is an old photo of the guy sitting there motionless for hours. Completely bewildered and shell-shocked as to what had occurred.

He managed to win evo2023 when he spent 80% of his time playing SF6. Arslan Ash himself marks the power of Pakistan in Tekken. I always think Pakistan and Korea hold a 50-50 in average level, but because of Arslan, Pakistan is the strongest Tekken region.

You do remember he won DBFZ at EVO right? He also has major wins in MVCI from when the game was in its peak (lol). I do agree that he falls off of some games when they evolve but DBFZ was the biggest game at Evo that year and he was in the grand finals of Evo for DBFZ again the next year. That IS the most fierce competition. It doesn't get harder than that.

Anyway..), he is known to pick up games faster than most, I give him that, but soon GO1 got the better results after the first year. And DBFZ didn't have enough killers like in the SF series, as GO1 is the only Japanese player considered "god" from Japan who is willing to pick up the game and play competitively. The reason SF is rated the highest amongst them all, is because the competition is truly a global game, as you have killers from every corner of the world. Sonicfox knows this well, it's why he was serious with SF6 at the beginning, and he was doing great with his JP until strong players started to rock his boat. Yes, he is a multiple EVO champ, but he needs to win against the players who consider themselves as gods, like the ones in Japan, or upcoming gods like Mena, Angrybird, or even Punk if he starts winning big. And yes, Punk actually tried to encourage and get Sonic to be a killer in SF6, as he was training (sonic) and had alot of sets at the beginning. But Punk majority of the time had his number, and sonicfox dropped off pretty quick after the first Evo in SF6. That says alot as supposedly US best. 🤔

Fenritti too, as he's possibly the greatest BlazBlue player on the planet. Japan had tons of killers in DBFZ's early days. Dogura too. These are all "gods" of Fighting Games. And Sonic has results in tournament on all of these dudes from the first few years. The game was the biggest game at Evo man, people try to discredit what Sonic did here and he went nuts. This video isn't about just naming names but mostly talking about my personal favorite greatest players and why I think they're great. There's a reason there's a whole "hot takes incoming warning". People will get upset if I don't mention Tokido, Kazunoko, Daigo, or Ryan Hart, but that's why this is fun to talk about. We all value different things and I agree with pretty much everything you said. I literally had to transition into Justin Wong using a clip of Daigo besting him for the Evo title lol

He drops games as soon as the competition is too high to reach. Remember he was serious about SF6 at the beginning? Where is he now? He is good, no doubt, but he needs to start winning major games like SF, Tekken, KOF, etc. not just MK or the least fierce competition in a game.
You do remember he won DBFZ at EVO right? He also has major wins in MVCI from when the game was in its peak (lol). I do agree that he falls off of some games when they evolve but DBFZ was the biggest game at Evo that year and he was in the grand finals of Evo for DBFZ again the next year. That IS the most fierce competition. It doesn't get harder than that.
@@qmanchu he won DBFZ the first year (side switch mid game was a bit of controversy... Anyway..), he is known to pick up games faster than most, I give him that, but soon GO1 got the better results after the first year. And DBFZ didn't have enough killers like in the SF series, as GO1 is the only Japanese player considered "god" from Japan who is willing to pick up the game and play competitively. The reason SF is rated the highest amongst them all, is because the competition is truly a global game, as you have killers from every corner of the world. Sonicfox knows this well, it's why he was serious with SF6 at the beginning, and he was doing great with his JP until strong players started to rock his boat.
Yes, he is a multiple EVO champ, but he needs to win against the players who consider themselves as gods, like the ones in Japan, or upcoming gods like Mena, Angrybird, or even Punk if he starts winning big. And yes, Punk actually tried to encourage and get Sonic to be a killer in SF6, as he was training (sonic) and had alot of sets at the beginning. But Punk majority of the time had his number, and sonicfox dropped off pretty quick after the first Evo in SF6. That says alot as supposedly US best. 🤔
@@qmanchu MVCI? Maybe, but again... It's a game that the majority in Asia doesn't play. Just like MK, no players from the East who plays it. I'm putting games like Tekken, SF, because it's a worldwide competitive scene.
@Gold_Lightan Kazunoko is more established than GO1 from Japan and he's got the titles in that game. He's one of the greatest to ever do it. Fenritti too, as he's possibly the greatest BlazBlue player on the planet. Japan had tons of killers in DBFZ's early days. Dogura too. These are all "gods" of Fighting Games. And Sonic has results in tournament on all of these dudes from the first few years. The game was the biggest game at Evo man, people try to discredit what Sonic did here and he went nuts.
I get what you're saying though about not sticking to games but that's just cuz he doesn't find them fun. He's not ducking anyone. He ALWAYS says he's gonna take a game forreal and then only plays for fun lol. That's just how he is and it's admirable from where I'm standing. He just plays what he likes and he's godlike the entire time.
By your logic, Xiaohai wouldn't be one of the greats either because he competes in an objectively second tier game and doesn't beat what we'd consider gods in the west except for Reynald. Xiaohai and Sonic are two sides of the same coin here. If you discredit one, you're discrediting both.
@@qmanchu @qmanchu xiaohai? Cause KOF is played massively in Asia, and Mexico, and I guess it's more global than MK. Also players like Dogora are not considered a god. You know the 5 gods of Japan? 😊 All plays SF. Anyway.... xiaohai is still playing SF6 and considered amongst some of the best.
Sonicfox didn't dominate DBFZ for a "few years", if he did, he would of won a World Tour. The ones he entered in are 2018, which he came 5-6th placing? Commendable effort! 😉 Then in 2019-2020, he got washed in the final pools. He was doing well the first year when he won Evo, then a slow decline from there. Anyway, I don't follow sonic, but he is over hyped in my opinion, but that just my take and what I remember. If he is a god, we shall see how well he does in the future. Remember players like Daigo (6x Evo champ, 2x SBO champ) ? Literally 30(?) years holding on, and still able to go toe to toe with the best in SF, maybe doesn't win tournaments these days, but he can still get into the top 8 during SFV days. That's what you call incredible.
Arslan has always been a GOAT and always will be.
That being said - sad to see that disrespectful furball getting respect. Kid's a talent relying on cheese and identity politics, and that is the only reason he's being propped up as a deity.
As far as I'm concerned, SF had his run of reputation - doesn't mean the accolades have to be unsung, but he needs a drastic dose of humility, especially being "everything a republican hates"...
