The overall vibe like you're at home and just happen to have a killer studio too. We had a blast there cutting this week. Robin is a great owner and host.
This studio is a masterpiece, no doubt. As an audio engineer who’s had the privilege of working in some of the world’s top-tier studios, I have to say that Dark Horse Recording strikes a perfect balance between technical precision and creative vibe. The acoustics seem dialed in to perfection-those rooms must sing back at you when you’re laying down tracks. From the glimpses of the gear, it’s clear they’re not cutting corners. That mix of analog warmth and digital precision? Chef’s kiss. The integration of high-end outboard gear, paired with what looks like a carefully designed DAW workflow, is every engineer’s dream. And that console-oh man, talk about a centerpiece. Nothing beats having tactile control over your mix. But what really sets this place apart is the aesthetic and vibe. You don’t just walk into a space like this-you feel it. And that’s what inspires magic in the studio. I mean, sure, you can record in a “sonically perfect” box, but where’s the soul in that? Studios like this are what make you want to hit the big red button and let the creativity flow. Props to the team for creating an environment that doesn’t just cater to sonics but embraces the artistry of making music. This is the kind of place where records are born, not just recorded. Total respect.
This studio is beautiful. It's always amazing to see studios that cater to creativity at the same level that so many commercial studios care about "sonics and acoustics". At the end of the day, I'd rather make a record in a room that inspires me rather than an acoustically perfect chamber with no vibe whatsoever.
We're recording there today. Totally stoked, gotta say! Josh Ditty is our first engineer, credits include Keith Urban, Morgan Wallen, Hardy, Ernest and FGL. I'll post a vid after we finish... So grateful for this opp.
Wonderful looking place...I will never be able to afford my own 1040, but I love my little 440. What would be the next tube level up for a budget home recording room?
Pure Tube is great if you don't need extras like polar pattern or high pass. I think it's a sweet spot product for vocal and acoustic guitar recordings, it performs way higher than it's price, I love singing to it.
Yes! PURE TUBE uses the same capsule but a different circuit design and tube choice. It has it's on unique tone but it definitely stands up next to the LCT 1040 if you don't need all the extra features.
Beautiful. I think independent artist cannot pay that. I do not like to know, how much cost an hour there, but I am sure, that I here at my home, with my "cheap" home studio, can better mix do -free- compare to the price over there. A good Mix to do, don't depend from beautiful House, and million expensive pieces of equipments. Equipment take perhaps 20% out, and das Haus not at all. But, no question, show off, can you do.
Thanks for watching. I'm not sure what their rates are but I know they still try and make it accessible for independent bands to come through. Of course you can make great music in a humble home studio, but Dark Horse offers a unique atmosphere, world class gear, great sounding rooms and experienced engineers who've worked on chart-topping records. That doesn't guarantee you'll make great sounding music... but it sure makes it a lot easier.
What's your favorite room/feature of the studio?
The guitar player chairs! 😮😮
Right! Pretty cool

💯 They very clearly put a lot of effort into the experience for the artist (and have an incredible space to do so) which sets them apart
You forgot the word epic!

Love my 240 LCT. I'm on a mean budget but I'd love a Pure Tube.
PURE TUBE is a great one. Definitely an ideal entry point to our tube mics
Great place. Excellent vid.

In this whole channel, there ain't no MTP 840 DM video. Wasn't it the flagship DM?

Merci Lewitt. Quelle traduction de merde. Arrêtez avec l'IA. Apparemment cela semble intéressant mais en français cela ne veut rien dire. Dommage.
Honestly, I didn't know there was an AI translation feature. That must be new to TH-cam.
