How did Azimio loose this election?I think either Raila Odinga did not want the presidency that bad or he was failed by those he trusted.......But I believe it is both.
I think raila believes in allowing systems work. Unlike ruto who had to do anything to make sure he gets presidency. If raila was to force things around. He wouldn't have made sure he controls chabukati before elections. Making sure that central Kenya does not register enough votors and ensure that he has his right hand men in the central Kenya as IEBC returning officers . Giving no room for ruto's agents. And manipulate mouth Kenya's and rift valley votes by all means. Ensure he gets not less than 2 million votes in ruto's strong holds and give no space for ruto in his traditional strong holds. He shouldn't have allowed the real time streaming of votes by making sure that the server fail. He should have made sure that IEBC is in his wraps that is if he really had all the government machine on his side. In Kenya what is key Is being announced the winner. Ruto would have little resistance because he knows time is on side. But I think he trusted that the system will work on his behalf without being seriously active checking things by himself. I believe the system didn't do enough for him.
If chabukati was not cooperating before elections, they had all powers to bangle him and find him a case to criminalize him and get him out and ensure chelera is chair before elections. But they allowed chabukati to be chair. A very untrustworthy man.

He trusted the deep state to deliver a win to him by win or rig. The deep state was not so keen on him, as Uhuru was though. They did not do too much and he lost. I've even heard that some of them were Ruto moles inside the government.

Ruto at 25 in 1992 could easily have been Raila's firstborn son who was 47 years at that time.Yet Ruto has come and passed him in political achievements.
This might be one of the reasons Raila is so bitter with Ruto.
Also Gachagua was only 26 years old being born in late 1965.
Uhuru was 30 years old being born in 1962.

To listen to Odinga trash Ruto today, you would never imagine that he once trusted Ruto enough to handle his campaign. It seems that when Odinga senses competition he moves to eliminate it. He removed Ruto after sensing that the guy was competent enough to threaten his elusive dream.

Odinga made alot of criminal mistakes as a political player, However that doesnt make Ruto a saint..Ruto is cunning and his populist politics could drive further divisions in Kenya.. right now kenya seems more divided than it was under Uhuru's reign, yet Ruto has been in power for only 9 months
