There was a lot going on here, so we won't be too hard on you for not picking up on everything!
This was a medley with one song from each of their albums going right back to the beginning.
The background colour changed with the start of each new song. Each song title was also shown in the bottom left hand corner with the name of the album and the year in the bottom right hand corner.

Pied piper is about their fans obsessing with them and not taking care of their lives and school or work , telepathy is about the connection of them with their fans with the pandemic , the guy literally said that he wrote them for them ( he wrote the song in the pandemic)
And UGH has crazy wordplay and bars.
Each song are from each album that you see below , and each one represents a different message that we’re trying to give, for example the first ones are from the school trilogy where they talk about things they deal in school and that includes high school crushes with the “like” of social media like the first song. The last song is from the album they made about what they feel about the pandemic so that’s why that song has that message.
In Bts lyricism you have to know the context of the song to get the whole meaning which cannot being well translate

This performance was a medley so it wasn't 1 song there were 7 different songs they performed covering 7 years of their career- Like (2013), Look Here (2014), Save Me (2016), Outro: Wings (2017), Pied Piper (2017), UGH! (2020), and Telepathy (2020). I would say the one with the most meaningful lyrics during this medley was UGH! which is a rap line song (a song by the rappers only). Since they only did a small part of the song you might've not caught onto the lyrics. UGH! addresses the theme of frustration and anger in response to criticism and negativity. The lyrics express the members' feelings of being judged and attacked, and their defiance in the face of such criticism. They talk about how they will not be swayed by others' opinions and will continue to persevere and succeed despite the challenges they face. Actually the song is more complex than that but that's just a short summary, maybe someone else will explain it in more detail. Pied Piper is also very interesting lyrically, it's basically about fan culture. Talking about how much time fans spend consuming their music and other content and it's basically saying we know you love our music and can't resist but don't let it consume your life. It's just interesting for them to say don't become obsessed with us while also saying "follow the sound of the pipe" luring us back in.

      @marirezende8478 26 วันที่ผ่านมา +49

UGH is more about the frustration of the misuse of the emotion anger. They mention the use of shallow criticism/negativity towards celebrities as an example, the song itself isn't about that.

Please keep in mind that many of BtS songs aren’t necessarily about traditional male female romantic relationships. Unlike western songs, they sing a lot about the relationship to the self, to friends, to their fans, to the music industry. So the “girl” they might reference may not always be a romantic actual girl

    • @huntressmma1822
      @huntressmma1822 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

Fun fact: the word girl (once spelled girls or girle) is olde English and was used to refer to a young person regardless of biological sex or gender. It wasn't until the 19th century (?) that it was changed to specifically mean a young woman.

The rappers' song Ugh is about people getting angry, criticising and ostracising someone for no justified reason and causing them mental harm when the anger could be put to better use by being angry about the bad things in society and trying to make things better.

This performance was a medley of different songs. BTS Festa is an annual celebration of their band since debut in 2013 and they typically do some type of performance or do a get together to share stories.

  • @rebeccabuxton1324
    @rebeccabuxton1324 26 วันที่ผ่านมา +51

I can only say about BTS that if you think a song is about romantic love then it is typically about either loving oneself and internal struggles, or their love for ARMY.
It is very difficult for you to interpret the deeper meanings from very short snippets, so thus is not a criticism of you at all.
Festa is a celebration of about a week around their debut date of 13th June each year. BTS give us extra content during the week, usually a performance of some kind (like this one), some fun games, a sit-down meal/feast where they talk live and talk about the year, often with live chat so they can talk with ARMY. It is a time of celebration where they show their appreciation of ARMYs' support, so it does tend to have a fun feel to it. With this performance, they were just chill and having fun doing what they love, it was not about a deep-dive into lyrics, so they were all just hanging out with us.

Professors, thank you for continuing to react to our artists.
BTS rarely performs songs about romantic love.
I would argue that regarding the content of their lyrics, BTS is a straight edge punk band (similar to Bad Religion) dressed in pop clothing.
Their most common lyrical themes are about sociopolitical problems, learning to love and respect oneself, the importance of mutually-supportive bonds within the global ARMY community, and of frank discussions of how to healthily cope when experiencing life stressors that feel insurmountable.
They have a lot of fun, lighthearted songs. But the majority of their lyrics are about more substantive topics.
Any solo work by a member of BTS is considered to be part of BTS’ official discography.

The Bts message in their songs are up to the album they are from , so to get the total message you have to get the context , for example they first 2 are in the context of high school life , later album is about going out of school and not knowing what to do with your life and going into the temptations of life so loosing your innocence and becoming adult, later about coming to the conclusion of loving themselves first in order to love others , and then how to do it and last album is about what they felt during the pandemic ( that’s why the last song is about the connection between them and the fans during the pandemic ). With all those context you can understand better the meaning of the songs

This is simply a snippet from one B-side from each year since their debut in 2013. Often they present a deeper meaning wrapped in the more obvious/typical guise of a love song and it is only fully interpreted within the context of the total album or even album series. The album Wings and the Love Yourself and Map of the Soul album series are clear examples of this. The deeper you go, the more you find!

This is not 1 song, its a medly from different eras of bts.
    Here is the list
    1. Like 2013
    Skool trilogy albums.
Its about how your ex in high school seems to be happier without you on social media.
    2. Look here 2014
    Dark and wild album.
Its a classic love song with a lot of boyish vibes.
    3. Save me 2015
The most beautiful moment in life albums.
Its about the fraility of youth and feeling lost in your young adult life hoping for someone to save you.
    4. Outro Wings 2016
    WINGS album.
The song talks about growing your "wings" or entering adulthood, starting your life, growing with pains, bravely facing your life.
    5. Pied piper 2017
    Love yourself Her album.
It's dedicated to their fans, thanking them for being obsessed and at the same time asking them to be less obsessed in a humorous contrasting way. They are the pied piper tempting you.
    6. UGH! 2020
Map of the Soul: 7 album.
Its social commentary about the nature of anger. How people's anger is wasted on social media on the wrong people like celebrities while anger could have been used to bring revolution and change in society.
    7. Telepathy 2020
    BE album.
A pandemic song reminiscing about fun times spent together but saying that even though we are far apart now, we still have the same heart. Its dedicated to both fans and to bts themselves.

Ugh is about performative online rage that is pointless. That people being angry about everything minimizes the effectiveness of being angry about important things. Wings tackles the concept of the thirst for success and fame but that the thrill is accompanied by the fear that comes with flying that high. Telepathy is a song that came out of the pandemic. It talks about the never ending routine, feeling adrift without purpose and finding comfort in reminiscing about better times with friends.

I discovered them a year ago and am STILL learning about deeper meanings and references, such as the psychological terms magic shop reference in magic shop referring to when you swap painful memories for good memories and outro tear referring to the TEAR grief model. There is honestly so much there in many of the songs but some are just for fun.

@user-vv7hc7kb5o I got into k-dramas and then got my coworker hooked on k-dramas and then we started playlists from the OSTs and so we would chat a lot about music and one day she told me to check out BTS. I had honestly never heard of them. So I went home that evening and searched for them on youtube and luckily for me the first video that came up was fake love which is totally my vibe. I watched it 5 times in a row and immediately downloaded the song on spotify. If it had been any of their other mainstream songs that probably would have been the end of it. As it was, I became obsessed with the song and curious so I started searching for live performances and then fell down the rabbit hole. Coming from and alternative rock and indie background who had never listened to rap, hip hop, r&b, or mainstream pop, their music really pushed my boundaries musically. But I can honestly say they are my favorite musicians of all time. I love the variety and emotion and intelligence in their art.

One was a commentary on overzealous fandoms and you can lose months or even years of your life following celebrity if you're not careful. One was about how anger is an actual emotion that can do SOME good if focused on change and that lately anger is getting watered down because folks get angry at the dumbest trivial things.

Aww. Really enjoying your reactions. FESTA is something that happens every year around BTS's anniversary of their debut which occurred on June 13th, 2013. It is basically a week or more of gifts for ARMY, mostly in the form of content, live interaction on their Weverse app, and songs. I am not aware of any other artist that does this consistently or to the extent that BTS does. They spoil us. BTS are pretty special.

  • @bernix100
    @bernix100 25 วันที่ผ่านมา +16

First of all, thank you for continuing the journey with BTS.
Secondly - there is nothing wrong with simply enjoying BTS's music, without deeper analysis.
Not all songs have a deep meaning or don't have one at first glance. But it's okay that you might not catch it. You're not as deep into this as most of the commenters. In many songs you can immediately see the depth, in many you need to know the context, history of creation, inspiration, purpose, explanations, and sometimes they themselves tell us what the meaning is, etc.
    For example:
    - the song Tears - it is apparently about the breakup of two people - but we know that it was created at a difficult time for BTS, when they were thinking about disbanding the group and it was a message from the rap line addressed to the remaining band members.
    - they often weave thoughtful literary, philosophical and cultural references into their music, e.g. the album Map of teh Soul was inspired by the theory of psychologist Carl Jung.
    - they often play with words, which is sometimes difficult for non-Koreans to understand and requires explanation
    - BTS uses music to inspire fans to better themselves and defy cultural expectations, to love themselves (Love Yourself album trilogy).
    - many songs are an expression of BTS's love for their fans (ARMY).
But BTS also has light, easy and pleasant songs, although some of them have interesting stories behind them. For example: Dynamite, Butter and Permission to dance were created during the pandemic and their task was to bring a bit of joy and color in this difficult time, which is why their main advantage is rhythmicity and cheerful, catchy lyrics. But even in them, BTS managed to include hidden gems and in Permision to dance, the choreography used international sign language signs.
I hope you don't get discouraged and continue to explore BTS's music.

Most of their songs have a meaning behind them and as others have said, this is a compilation of a number of their songs. I would recommend Spring Day and the Italian A.R.M.Y explanation video, Fake Love, Black Swan, Blood, Sweat and Tears (which you've reacted to), are just a very few of their songs full of meaning and symbolism. I enjoyed your reaction! Enjoy your dive into BTS! Borahae 💜

BTS definitely have a lot of songs that are more so just fun, a lot of them about love and such. But, they also have a big part of their discography that tackles deeper, more serious topics such as mental health, social issues (pressures of school, how the economy is affecting youth, the behavior of youth towards their family, the toxic hate culture that seems to be growing, etc), their views on fame and how it's affected them, and self love.
If you want to dive into these types of songs, I recommend checking out the following songs and reading the lyrics: Interlude Shadow, N.O, Ugh, Tomorrow, 00:00 (Zero O'clock), and Paradise. There are many, many more of course, but I wanted to give just a few examples if you want to get started.

Thanks for the reaction!!!! When someone decides to embark on this immense universe of possibilities that is BTS, we usually say that they are entering the "Rabbit Hole", some messages are more profound than they seem, including when it comes to social issues. That's why I really wanted a reaction on the "Spring Day" music video, but followed by a documentary by Italian journalists to explain the details. But my special request is for a special award that takes place every year in Korea, the 2019 MMA...... then tell me the damage.... 🤣🤣🤣🤣🙋‍♀️💟💜

I find it hilarious, every time I see a reaction towards BTS, that people assume that it has a romantic connotation, when it never is, in fact it is very strange to find romantic songs in their discography, it generally focuses on self-love, self-improvement, fight against the adversities of life, in addition to very serious psychological issues. In this video they only show a small percentage of each song, so they cannot be analyzed in depth but you can enjoy the music and their incomparable voices and in that context we appreciate your reaction and that you enjoyed it, thank you

I was feeling horrible when this came out, really a pick up. The song ugh and telepathy I believe has the most messages. This was for themselves and army of course. BTS always talk about their telepathy and understanding each other. It was a nice one during the pandemic when they couldn't do live concerts and see army in person to send that message. Ugh you have to listen to the whole thing of course

This was many songs put into a medley, but here are very short explanations of the lyrics for my favourites :)
*Outro: Wings* - is about overcoming hardships and fighting through them, its a hopeful track. "My back pains me because it is for wings to be" and "with my blood stained wings I will fly" are the lyrics that wrap it up the best in my opinion.
*UGH!* is a comment on rage and anger in society nowadays and shows their their frustration against malice-filled anger.
There is a LOT of Korean wordplay and cultural references so a good explanation would be way too long for me to comment, but essentially they are talking about anger as a concept, how important of an emotion it is and how it is misused in society especially nowadays.
*Pied Piper* is a look into fan culture. BTS are addressing their fans and playfully telling them to stop spending too much time watching and idolizing them, but at the same time asking them to keep doing it because bts needs them. BTS are the Pied Piper in this song.
I recommend reading the lyrics for all their songs/the entire songs when you watch them, bts are especially known for their lyricism :D
Of course not every song will be a deep look into our society like *Strange* or explores psychological concepts like *Persona* for example, they do write just fun songs sometimes. And often a lot gets lost in translation, but it's still worth it.

This was a brief compilation of intentionally light, fun songs from throughout their career (except UGH, that's not exactly light). If you want deeper meaning you have to actually listen to their albums. Some personal favourites are Wings, 7, and Love Yourself: Tear. They actually have relatively few songs about romance (not that there's anything wrong with writing about romance, their songs Trivia: Love and 134340 are good examples of deeper songs about romantic relationships). Here's a suggestion for music videos - try the trilogy they made based on the theories of Carl Jung:
    Persona
    Shadow
    Ego
But seriously, they have so, so many songs with extremely deep lyrics. I've had transformative experiences reading their lyrics. They've helped me to process some of my personal trauma (I have complex PTSD). Some of their songs I can only listen to very rarely because they're so powerful. The song 'First Love' (not about romance) has made me sob every one of the handful of times I've put it on. Stigma and Singularity are haunting. Blue & Grey sat with me for a long time after I listened to it. One of their most popular songs, Spring Day, is about grief, and another, Black Swan, is about burnout and depression. I could go on and on listing 100s of songs (they have about 500 between them). They have songs about self-hatred, trauma, suicide etc.
They also have a lot of songs which aren't about dark and tragic subject matter, but just explore complex thoughts and emotions... musing on the nature of respect (Respect), questioning the existence of god (God Rap), criticising the structure of capitalism (Haegeum) and the competitive nature of modern society (Paradise). They also have a lot of songs which just tell their story, which are like narrative pieces. Overall their discography is best experienced by listening to their albums in context and reading quality lyric translations.

@@djlivvy46 That's true, a lot of the songs in the compilation actually do have a deeper meaning, but I feel like they intentionally chose verses which seem light out of context because it was for a fun FESTA video. I was just generalising because I figured that would be too hard to explain to these guys, but I can see now the other commenter did a good job of explaining it!

So this performance was a medley performed on their anniversary. It had 7 songs. You have to look deeper. For example, Pied Piper is poking fun that they are pied piper pulling girls in and also telling their fans not to get sucked into the fantasy of famous people. Often there are double entendres, play on words and some is cultural so you may need an explanation video to understand why we love these guys and their lyricism.

As others have already said, there were multiple songs here. If you look at the bottom as they change to each song, it says the song title and what album it's from. The earlier songs were from when they were kids, so it is a bit of school/young romance. (Which was not all they wrote about at the time. No More Dream and N.O. from those early days had heavy meanings.) But of the other songs I'll just give you a brief summary that you can dig deeper into if you ever decided to react to the songs.
    Save Me -
It's about the yearning for love and support before falling deeper into despair. They plead over and over for someone to save them before they're swallowed up by despair. In a later song, "I'm fine" that is the direct mirror of this song, they discover they they need to save themselves instead of relaying on someone else.
    Outro: Wings -
Talks about struggles and perseverance. Their personal journey on the path they've chosen and how despite their wings being bloodied and their feet and bodies being bruised, they choose to let the hardships go and continue to fly.
    Pied Piper- (Vocal Line)
This one is actually for ARMY (BTS's fans) and is them playfully teasing us while using the comparison of the pied piper. They say that they know they're distracting and that we often put things aside to indulge in supporting them. But not to neglect things like school and work for them.
    UGH! - (Rap Line)
This one I recommend not only reacting to the full song but also the "explained by a korean" video about it because it's not only extremely deep, but filled with Korean cultural context and mean. They talk about their anger at harmful anger. And how everyone these days gets so caught up being angry over everything that causes that actually require anger to change the world for the better, often lose steam and don't reach their potential. They also directly address haters who think just because someone is famous, it's okay to be vile and bully them.
    Telepathy-
This one is actually super sweet and comforting. This is one of their songs of BE, which was released during the pandemic and contains a lot of their feelings about that time. It's really another some where they address ARMY (they have many songs to, for or about us). It's almost like a conversation to us. Asking how we're doing, talking about how they are happiest when we're together.

Please react to Taylor's guide to the Bangtan 7 to learn more about them before you react to any more of their music. It will give you a better appreciation and understanding when you react to their videos. .
Their albums tell stories so the actual love songs are there for a reason, weather it be describing the flush and confusion of young love or bitterness of heart break and the realisation that we need to love ourselves first.
A lot of their other "love" songs are actually written to ARMY....
They do have some songs just for fun too.... it's a great mix... but most will have an underlying meaning even if it doesn't seem like it at first glance.
They like to get us thinking.
If you do all of those songs individually you will have ARMY give you each of the deeper meanings 😅
