For those concerned about Sand and Sea, she exited the race fine. Veterinarians watch these horses the entirety of the process: in the morning, in the paddock, in the warm-ups, at the gate, and post race. Her poor result was just a matter of getting burnt out too quick. The veterinarian did not believe anything was wrong and she has already come back healthy and returned to the work tab at Keeneland June 10 (the normal 2 weeks later you’d expect) with a half mile in :48 4/5.
My absolute favourite kind of racehorse, a grey turf route mare. Be she Winter Memories, Joyful Victory, Alpinista, and all the others. She is heavenly.
I understand about the practice of using a horse as a "Rabbitt". However, this was cruel and spirit breaking for the Sand and Sea. She ran so hard and led so long just to burn out and finish last? What was the point? I can't believe this was a "She wouldn't rate" problem. If I was the owner I would be so angry. Run her shorter distances so that glorious burst of speed achieves something.
Why would that hockey let that horse #6 have her head like that? Must be his first graded race too. How dispirited that poor mare must feel. He should have held her back and then at the end let he have her head. Sad.
In all fairness, this was Sand and Seas first graded race. Plus, you don't quit like that unless something is wrong. The winner Atomic Blonde, is from Italy. Have to watch the Europeans. I believe her last graded win was in 2022. I don't know if it was her first start back, but this was definitely a quality group of horses.
What was wrong was the jockey pushing her too hard, too soon. Maybe that was the trainers intention to see how she would do in that scenario...who knows.
Prior to the race, i thought she had been kinda limping and favoring that one hind leg. Go to 4:20 and watch her hind end. She looks very choppy and favoring that left hind. Had to go back and find the time stamp.
A horse will quit when they don't pace them correctly. She should have been held back. She had nothing left at the end. She had a bad jockey. That was the problem.
Great little mare!! She had more power left to give at the end of the race than any of them. I love the way they take care of her, really nice to see them sponge her at the end. Great job to her and her 2 legged family.

Another gorgeous grey wins.

I was rooting for her, and she got cut off 😪. Then at the end when I saw her coming up I got excited 😊 🤗 🤪 😃 😄
Grey's are my favorite 😍 💓 💙 💕 ❤️
They should breed her to the Preakness winner , he is a beautiful gray stallion they would make a beautiful foal!
Goodness! SO athletic and TALL, these beautiful mares.
Commending the production people! Keeping the horses tagged accurately even as they walked in front of each other.
I have to agree, these are some quality horses.
All these mares are just beautiful ❤️❤️❤️

bwtawny, agreed! Sure hope that Sand n Sea mare is okay!
I didn’t know they used a horse as a tease! Is this common practice?
They went into that last turn and the matrix reset!
Jockey should have kept #6 with the pace of the other horses not to tire her out. Then let her loose at the end!
I totally agree, gave her her head far too soon and she simply ran herself out. But an impressive lead she had though.
The same thing they did to Seabiscuit until he had a jockey and owner that appreciated him.
I help my breath the entire time. I was betting on atomic blonde in my head....😂
Gorgeous mares. I watched twice and slowly noticed Sand & Sea was slightly limping… thoughts?
I noticed thatbtoo. I am surprised no one around them didn't say something. I thought it quite obvious.
Sand and Sea appeared to be limping before the race.
Forgot Hard Not to Like, my darling!
💐💐💐
Haha a giant lead but didn't win. What's with the click bait? 😅
What was the Jockey on #6 thinking?
Probably doing what the trainer told him to do.
This Was Some Kind Of Race!! Very Impressive Of This Stunning Grey Horse!!❤😊
I wish you would quit giving it away, I like to pick them too.

Poor jockey should have been disbarred

You can see where he asks her to run, and she does!
