    One of my all time favourite songs. “Life is what happens to you when you’re busy making other plans”. This song made me cry thinking about my own beautiful boy who just turned 18 and last week moved all the way across the country to attend university on a football 🏈 scholarship. Neither of us quite realized exactly how much we would miss each other.

    I had recently purchased the “Double Fantasy” album and was extremely excited about John Lennon’s emergence after his retreat from the limelight (a well deserved break from the madness)! Then the unthinkable happened and he was murdered. I can only say I was paralyzed for several days and, to this day, feel as though he was deprived of what would surely have been his happiest years. What we all have lost, should never overshadow what was taken from John and Yoko and Julian and Sean. For my own selfish reasons, I will never be over this! The rest is even more tragic. ❤️🥰🌺🌺🌺✌️

    I've always loved this song but, had mixed feelings about it also. I always wonder how Julian felt when he heard this. The father Sean had, was very different than the father he had. My heart always aches for Julian more than Sean when I think of John's death.

    • @ajogg
      @ajogg 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Same. I think it's a beautiful song, but it's too bad he didn't treat Julian with the same respect as Sean. Heck, John had his lost weekend where he left Yoko and was cheating on her etc. Glad he changed his ways and actually cared about taking care of Sean. But when he had Julian was a different time and place.

    • @stephanieo2509
      @stephanieo2509 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      John wrote 'Goodnight" for Julian. He says "Happy Xmas Julian" on Happy Xmas, he used Julian's painting to write "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds." Julian plays drums on one of his albums. On one of his TV appearances, he made sure to say "Hello Julian" during an instrumental break. Julian has lots of REAL tangible memories of John. Many more than Sean does.

    • @Fatty.D.McButterpants

    The "Double Fantasy" album came out in November 1980 and I immediately bought it. It was so beautiful because things had turned around for him. This song and "(Just Like) Starting Over" hit me personally and then 3 weeks later the unthinkable happened and he was murdered. I was living in San Francisco at the time and a spontaneous vigil for him grew in the Marina park. We were there crying and needing community. I will never forget it. The songs went from happy, so glad he's back songs to heart-wretchedly sad. It took awhile before I could listen to them again, which is sad because it is a wonderful album.

    I love this song. It's beautiful but I can't help but hurt for Julian. This is what he longed for from his father. John wrote a song for Julian at bedtime. It was nothing like this.
    That famous line "Life is What happens to you while your busy making other plans" it's harder for Julian. Nothing's worse then someone passing away with loose ends that can't be fixed. Sean knew his father adored him. Unfortunately I know how Julian feels.

    The Goldman book on Lennon is one of the most hated books in the world of Beatles fans. Paul, George, and Ringo refused interviews for Goldman's research. They knew what kind of writer he was because of his recent hit piece on Elvis. It was a character assassination. The Lennon book is of the same ilk, from segments I have read and according to those who have read the entire book.

    John also wrote a poignant melody for his wife Yoko on the album ("Double Fantasy") that featured this song. It is called 'Woman". It seems he was allowed to give something for both of them to remember him by before he died. The line "every day in every way it's getting better and better" is a nod to Paul McCartney's "Getting Better". John had provided the 'negative' lines in that song from "Sgt. Pepper's." This line is John is acknowledging to Paul that he was right all along.

    After many long years John had come out of house husband "retirement" and he put out this LP as John Lennon, not John Lennon - The Beatle or John Lennon who used to be a Beatle, but simply as John (& Yoko). It is a mature, honest work that gave a lot of us hope and direction. The news of his death cut across the World - it was even announced during a game on the Monday Night Football television show - with only 3 seconds left in the game because the sports commentators knew it was more important than who won the game. His killer is still jail to this day.

    The sad fact of the matter is that John never really probably got to know his first son Julian you know Cynthia that was his first wife because of the height of The Beatles being so famous he didn't really have time for his first song and he even admitted this later on in interviews😊

    A beautiful & poignant song...the ending sounds of children's laughter & the ocean reminisce about their sailing trip to Bermuda. Please throw away that Goldman "biography."..Goldman was a horrible person for such a hatchet job. Lennon wasn't a perfect man, but far from the monster Goldman portrayed. Thanks.

    I think this was probably a hard song for his older son Julian Lennon. This had to be very hurtful song for him and then his father is gone with no chance of fixing there relationship.

    Beautiful song. Love you John. As far as the Albert Goldman book, do yourself a favor Harri, and don't read the book. It was all negative trash about John. it is a trash book. If you have a fireplace, use it as firewood this winter.

    THAT book has a very strong tendency towards representing things in a worst case scenario perspective. Paul and Yoko were both adamantly critical of it.

      @@HarriBestReactions Whom to believe. A fair question. Eventually, you settle....but where? John has never denied his own issues and is frequently, perhaps, too honest even if it put him in a bad light. He made significant efforts to destroy the 'Beatle myth' both during and, most notably, after the break up. Meanwhile, Paul has nothing to gain or lose either way necessarily. He could just let the book stand and allow John to be diminished while raising his own street cred. He didn't. Yoko would have a personal stake, but Paul joins her on this front. After this, all you have are second and third hand accounts, many discredited, by people who have a favorite Beatle. Even the author suggest that Paul was the only talented member of the group. From there, my God, Goldman even suggests that Lennon was anti-Semitic, dyslexic, schizophrenic, and having sex with children. Even ex-wife, Cynthia, noted that the material he extracted from her book put an extra and unneeded negative spin on everything. The list is endless but let's face it. The only one to benefit from this book was the author.
      Author Goldman also did a hatchet job on Elvis Presley as well. See also 'yellow journalism'.

    I love the song but, John was always so good to point out the hypocrisy of others but couldn't see his own. Did he write a song for his older son, Julian? Nope. Left him very little money that Cynthia had to fight for. Yoko sold off memorabilia and Julian has used his own money to go round and try to buy it back. Should have been his and Seans to split/share. It is a lovely song, sang it to my boy 100 x's! Thank's Harri!

      He wrote Good Night for Julian, Julian's painting was a huge inspiration for Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, he told Julian "Happy Christmas" on Happy Xmas in the beginning, and another example I can't think of at the moment.
      He loved Julian, and before he passed he was trying to reconnect with him and make up for the all the times he wasn't there for him, then that asshole shot him.
      It's quite possible that Yoko fucked him over with the will as well, more than likely.

    You should listen to Sean Lennon's album, "Friendly Fire." It's brilliant! Big critical success but no air play in the USA. But some single hits in France. "Parachute" was on of my favs from that LP. I got to talk to Sean both before a concert here in San Diego. He was very sweet. Posed for a pic w me & my friend. He said I was the 1st from his online fan site to show up. He took time afterwards to give everyone autographs. Everyone at the concert knew the album & was singing along. At one point he said, "I'm so glad you're all singing & know the words, it helps when I forget my own lyrics." Lol! He did another concert later with another artist. It was heavier rock. th-cam.com/video/JuYKC28H-x0/w-d-xo.html

    Hey there! SOOOO....this is really tough. I've made the same requests over and over and over, but to no avail. I'm going to try once more, but if nothing comes of my requests, I'll just take it as my cue that my suggestions don't matter, & will unsubscribe and quit bothering you.
    Ok......months & months ago, you said you were right then going to do George Harrison "All Things Must Pass", but it never happened. Also with George, I mentioned "Beware of Darkness", &"Isn't it a Pity."
    I've also mentioned the Kennedy Center Honors performances...first, Heart performing "Stairway to Heaven" for Led Zeppelin. Also, Adam Lambert performed "Believe" for Cher. Seeing Jason Bonham playing drums w/Heart... amazing. Seeing Robert Plant tear up, & Jimmy Page was particularly happy. JPJ also loved it. And Cher teared up hearing Adam....
    Finally, I had suggested Il Divo. It's 4 men from different countries (I.S., France, Switzerland and Spain), and Simon Cowell actually put them together initially. They cover TONS of incredible songs, but often not in English. I suggest "Nights in White Satin", "Unbreak my Heart", Wicked Game", "Time to say Goodbye", and "Angels". They're classically trained, and are completely PHENOMENAL.
    SOOOO...If I just end up getting ignored again, I will take that as my cue that my suggestions don't matter, & I'll just go ahead and unsubscribe. Then I won't be a bother to you any longer. It will be your loss to not experience Il Divo in particular, but that's not my concern. Take care, & I'll wait a bit to see what comes of my message...

    Beautiful song - so poignant. 'Live is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans' is a great line, but not a Lennon original. This phrase was apparently used in 1957 by an author in Readers Digest. Fantastic line all the same. Hearing this song is indeed heartbreaking.
