I am still enjoying my two leather belts (one black, one brown) four years after receiving them from Mr Rogers. They are wearing very nicely and hold just as tight.
I’m a blacksmith in Australia, recently I’ve started making belts that are more or less fully engraved with floral patterns & accompanied with hand forged hardware in this case it’s a leaf heal bar buckle, I find the information given by makers of your caliber to be valuable & I thank you for the time you’ve spent to help others like myself to excel in the craft
Thank You. was looking to see how to replace a broken buckle on my favorite belt. Must be most relaxing informative video ever. I checked my normal high blood pressure for the heck of it and was the lowest reading I had in years. thanks
What a fantastic walk through Harry, im completely new to leathercraft so found this video to be very informative. Many thanks for taking the time to share this ~Peace~
very professional product sir! Brings back memories way back in the stone age when I did some leather work. I had a round wwod disc about 4" dimeter by 1/2? thick set up on a motor. I had a "V" cut in the center and that's what I used to burnish the edges of my leather. It just kinds of burns it in and leaves a smooth finish. I'll be taking a visit to check out the website. I think you are doing a top knotch job and presentation!
Wonderful film Harry, Thank-you for posting. I bet I'm not on my own when I say that I never realised how much work went in to making a leather belt, I enjoy seeing your leatherworking videos even though I know nothing of the craft. You produce a really beautiful product. I shall leave now and check out Bucklehurst leather's website. N.
I was sent a link to your channel this evening by a friend and I've really enjoyed looking at your videos. I can see this is going to be a late night. I'll be buying at least one of your belts because they are really wonderful. I need to have a good look at the buckles and styles on your website to decide which I want. I'll be getting back to you. Best Wishes, Brendan.
+baconsoda Thank you for showing me this man's work Brendan! Nice call! These belts have such great details and won't curl or hike or become bothersome. They'll only get better with age and use. Great design in these and the details are common sense quality that is hard to find. I could purchase a Ralph Lauren for an overpriced sum or something but I don't like the idea of supporting someone's yachting lifestyle for something with no soul! These belts have character and are so refined! Going to buy a few. The videos are quite nice to watch too. I can't wait to get to the website!
+Lemon Squishy Brilliant! I get nothing from sales, just the satisfaction of knowing I put some business Harry's way. A lot of people have told me they are going to buy his stuff.
Loved this video and all the attention to detail. I do hope your shop opens up soon as I know my husband would absolutely love one of your handmade belts for his suits.
wow, can't possibly be improved :) i think i am getting one for my granddad on christmas, he loves leather belts, and he will probably apreciate a good quality handmade one :)
Very nice sir. I agree with all the details making the item. I do leatherwork that same way because I feel the customer will see the care put into the item and return for other goods and refer their friends to me. It's just good business, especially when they're paying a good amount for that quality.
Great videos Harry, thanks for posting and showing some great techniques and tips. I'll be ordering both your tool-rolls in about 2 weeks. Cheers from sweden
Hello Harry , would it be worthy to use the patcher for making the keepers on some of the wider belts .... thank you for your videos I have watched all of them , you are quite a dyverse artist , nice to see .... your chair there with the stained glass is unique as well ....
I absolutely love watching you work on these! These are beautiful and the quality is excellent. I can tell by the detail and care you take in making them. You are making me want to learn make some! :) I love the idea about the oval holes and the skiveing, will definitely make a difference for the better! Thanks for sharing! Chris
had a go myself after watching this video, not the greatest but i can only get better, never thinned the leather and used the screw type brass fasteners and a double pronged buckle.brilliant informative video
Aussie saddle maker here. That creasing iron looks like a Dixon creaser. I have one identical which I bought in 1984. Pity that Joseph Dixon closed and no longer make saddlers tools anymore.
That is a nice edge beveler where did you get it? Mine is a cheap Tandy one and if worn out and will hardly cut anymore. Is it an Osborne by any chance? And good video with good advice for beginners. You didn't miss a thing.
I have an idea of a simplish clamp could be made foot operated that is clamped to table to make the job of rounding over the edges of the belt, it looks sort of wobbly . thats if you already have something like that.
Great video Harry, I would love to try and make my own belt, but I cannot find a supplier in the uk? I have looked on eBay but not sure what to buy! Can you help please Many Thanks Steve
Very good Video Harry. Very good of you to share how you do this. Do you mind if I ask about the tools you use, did you make some of them yourself ? The French Cobbler's hammer is nice.Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for the reply Harry, very difficult to find good car boot sales here in Ireland. Have you done a review video of the sewing kit you have for sale on your website. I'm trying to get going on some of the older crafts, I find your vid's very useful and informative. Thanks
hasdrubal121 Thats good ....I assembled that sewing kit because its difficult for people to get started in leathercraft with the high cost of tools etc....take a look at Tandy Leather and you will see what I mean...so its a starter so that people can give it a go to make an axe cover or similar and then if they get on with it, to buy more tools down the line - thanks for your comments. Harry
If you don't have any leather dye for the edges you can use a black Sharpie (felt-tip marker). In 1991 when I was 16 I got a new black leather belt that was too long so I cut it shorter. The factory black finish was only on the surface, so when I cut it the new natural leather color edge stuck out like a sore thumb. I blackened the edge with a Sharpie and 32 years later you still can't tell the difference in color between the factory blackened edge and my Sharpie blackened edge (the belt finally broke a few weeks ago so it's retired now).
Hi Harry, I have been watching many of your videos, bought some supplies and really want to start with belt making. I have some questions if you don't mind. What size oval punch is needed, can't find that out myself. And also the rivets? What size rivets do you use, and what size punch is needed for them, is see you use a really small punch? Are the rivets the same on the belt as on the belt keeper? Both single caps right? And if i use 3mm leather, do i need rivets 4 of 5 mm long? thanks you Harry !
Hi, i'm thinking of getting into leather craft as a little hobby but don't have the first clue about the best place to get tools and the actual leather. Was hoping you could direct me to a website or store here in the UK?. Thanks.
Hi Harry! Love the quality you put in your leatherwork 😍🤩. I don’t know if the question was already asked but what the reference of your skiving tool? I’m searching such a tool but can’t find a good one. Thx for your videos, learning a lot 🙏🏻
Hi, thank you very much for the videos and for you time. Please, could you tell me where do you buy the knive to reduce the leather? Sorry for my English and again thanks.
Harry Rogers Hey, thanks for this useful video it's well done work. Thanks also for sharing your knowledge with us for free. I have a suggestion is : could you please put the names of tools that you are using on the description of the video it will be helpful for every newbie like me. Otherwise keep going :)
what brand of hand tools to punch the holes and the end of the belt do you use? mine are so dull i could never chop off the end of thick veg tan with one swipe like you did.
a very nice belt, i really like the crease lines and you're quite humorous hahaha, i just had one question, what size of rivet did you use (post and cap size) thanks Harry!
Excuse me for asking, sir. I haven't found an answer among your videos, could you please tell how do you finish the opposite side of a belt, so it looks more "polished", if I can call it that way?
Question. I have some students with special needs in a leather working class to give them some hobbies and be able to work with their hands. A few of them understandably thought a copper sibgle post roller buckle would be cool. Do you know where to find something like that? Ive found a few solid ones but obviously we dont need to spend $40, just need a copper plated one or something. thoughts? thanks for your time! the kids loved your video!
I have a question my friend has a 60 inch waist line and currently has no belts he is wanting someone to make him a leather belt and is wanting to know what size of leather would be needed from tip to tip total in inches long?
Good luck on your web site, and thanks for the tip on the oval holes. Do you need to dampen the belt before putting the side grooves in (like when tooling), or is that why you heated the tool first?
Hi Joseph a Dixon 39...but it does depend on the leather thickness, and the buckle body thickness so it's best to wrap the skived leather around the buckle and test.
Nice to see someone who cares about quality in this modern era. Well done Harry!
Thanks Bob.
It's always enjoyable to witness simple and essential objects being made by hand. They are beautiful and will last longer too.
I am still enjoying my two leather belts (one black, one brown) four years after receiving them from Mr Rogers. They are wearing very nicely and hold just as tight.

Fantastic! What amazing talent you have. Thank you!!
+Diane Can Thanks Diane
Beautifully made belt
Great video and very helpful... although - wouldn't veg tanned leather soak in water immediately instead of creating a drop on the surface?
If russet yes unless treated, this is heavily waxed veg bridle leather so have to rub water in.
I really do enjoy watching your videos, can you point me in the right direction to find a skiving knife like the one you use in this video.
Robert Aftanas Thanks...perhaps Tandy leather or Ebay?
Love to watch you work. You love what you do. Where did you obtain the oblong punch for the buckle slot.
It's an old Dixon, but you can get Osborne now.
Aussie saddle maker here. That creasing iron looks like a Dixon creaser. I have one identical which I bought in 1984. Pity that Joseph Dixon closed and no longer make saddlers tools anymore.
Yes absolutely
Very classy work mate! Thanks for sharing the info.

So beautiful! Excellent quality :)

Hi Its a Joseph Dixon.
Very nice work! Informative video as well 👍👍
Great vid - what do you call that grid cutting board please?
I have an idea of a simplish clamp could be made foot operated that is clamped to table to make the job of rounding over the edges of the belt, it looks sort of wobbly . thats if you already have something like that.

Very good Video Harry. Very good of you to share how you do this. Do you mind if I ask about the tools you use, did you make some of them yourself ? The French Cobbler's hammer is nice.Thank you for sharing.
Hi most of my tools are second or third hand! Online auctions, wood fairs and sales are a good place to find them.

+Keith Hodgson U must be the easiest person to entertain in the world!!!!
Nice video! I love those old school creasers.
Brilliant work and nice tools. how can i get your kinds of tools?
Some from Ebay

Hi - there is quite a lot on Tandy (google it) and Ebay......unless you look for trade suppliers for quantity.
Hi Harry! Love the quality you put in your leatherwork 😍🤩. I don’t know if the question was already asked but what the reference of your skiving tool? I’m searching such a tool but can’t find a good one. Thx for your videos, learning a lot 🙏🏻
hello .. well done and asking how to choose the right leather sheets sizes for making belts? thanks
ahmed shokr hi bridle back is best
Great vid, I really enjoyed it and you explain things very well.
I can probably provide you best quality Leather Belts
Hi, thank you very much for the videos and for you time. Please, could you tell me where do you buy the knive to reduce the leather? Sorry for my English and again thanks.
Tandy Leather or Ebay should have skiving knives.
Harry Rogers thanks for you quick answer
Lovely work.
oh I meant to ask Harry, if you make belts that one can change a buckle. my hubby has a collection of buckles.
I use Chicago screws and you can change the buckle at will.
Harry Rogers Hey, thanks for this useful video it's well done work.
Thanks also for sharing your knowledge with us for free.
I have a suggestion is : could you please put the names of tools that you are using on the description of the video it will be helpful for every newbie like me.
Otherwise keep going :)
Just been on to your online store but the store is closed 😟☹️ excellent & informative video
Thanks ...It will reopen soon!
what brand of hand tools to punch the holes and the end of the belt do you use? mine are so dull i could never chop off the end of thick veg tan with one swipe like you did.
+Donna Wiedeman Hi Donna - they are by Dixons but they have now closed down, which is a great loss.
a very nice belt, i really like the crease lines and you're quite humorous hahaha, i just had one question, what size of rivet did you use (post and cap size) thanks Harry!
Excuse me for asking, sir. I haven't found an answer among your videos, could you please tell how do you finish the opposite side of a belt, so it looks more "polished", if I can call it that way?
Hello, I leave the inside as it comes from the tannery less the wax, it's premium leather so is pretty good.
Fritjof Svensen Hello...sorry but I do not know...just been looking at EBay but not a great help.. .perhaps someone here can help.
Fritjof Svensen alliespress. Search up solid brass buckles
I have a question my friend has a 60 inch waist line and currently has no belts he is wanting someone to make him a leather belt and is wanting to know what size of leather would be needed from tip to tip total in inches long?
Hi probably around 74 inches, so best option is a piece of bridle back leather, of join two pieces of leather with a skive....I hope that helps.
@@harryrogers is there any longer leather straps to make it without trying to combine 2 pieces together?
@@carlrockaway1696 hi yes use a bridle back..it's around 90 inches in length. Rgds Harry
@@harryrogers ok
If I get a belt from you could you make shure it has a replaceable buckle section
Sorry Josh but I do not do that kind of belt...Thanks for asking though. Regards Harry
Hi Harry where do you source your buckles
Do you buy your leather pre-dyed? also what thickness of leather are the belts?
War size edge beveler are you using in this video? What size would you recommend for belts made from 8-9 OZ leather? Thanks! Great video btw!
8-9oz would be a craft tool 3. The thicker the leather the higher # beveler you use to remove more material.
Good luck on your web site, and thanks for the tip on the oval holes. Do you need to dampen the belt before putting the side grooves in (like when tooling), or is that why you heated the tool first?
Hola bb cuatas pulgadas se dejan a partir de la punta de la correa para aser el primer agujero
Would you please provide the oblong punch size for the belt eye holes?
Hi Joseph a Dixon 39...but it does depend on the leather thickness, and the buckle body thickness so it's best to wrap the skived leather around the buckle and test.
Thanks for the video.
May I ask where the buckles and rivets are from?
Cheers.
Shane Fullwood Various trade outlets Shane....if you google for your area something should come up.
Harry Rogers OK! Cheers.
