Wow. This director is very promising. This is the first time I have heard of his name but his project is such a stand-out. We need more guy like him. We need more films like this. This kind of endeavor will awaken the nation, will awaken the young generation. Kudos for coming up with a huge project that will be much appreciated by people who appreciates history, art, artistic performance, music, technical development and film making in general. I look forward to more Tarog films in the future.

heneral luna is an eye opener- ang kalaban natin ay hindi mga dayuhan, kundi kapwa filipino- tagos sa puso ng bawat pilipinong nagmamahal sa inang bayan! kudos to the director n producers

+kaiplue Well to be fair, this movie had a P100 million budget, so at the very least you expect it to be decent. Good thing it turned out nicely. Definitely one of the best Filipino movies of all time.

+Joseph Sanchez It not just about the budget man, it's also the great people who work on the film. It has an well rounded director, an amazing crew, and a stellar cast that acted well. They needed that much money yes, but what's the point of that if they are just going use it to make something like another mistress film. There are many talented Filipinos that can and want to create masterpieces like this, it just so happens that no one wants to invest such amount of cash on a movie like this because they're scared it wouldn't sell, they would rather fund a movie with a repetitive and trite concept like mistress films because they know it would sell.
I'm really happy that the final product is amazing and that our people gave it so much support. It restored my faith in my fellow Filipinos :)))
That's right. Ronnel Panciles is right. It's not really about the budget. Lets put it in comparison to Bonifacio Ang Unang Pangulo (2014) which almost had the same amount of budget as Heneral Luna did. Bonifacio was a good movie, but not as stellar or clever or smartly written as Heneral Luna's script was. But don't get me wrong, Bonifacio was a decent film, that's why it won the best picture category. Though it's dragging in comparison to Hen. Luna and there aren't enough action scenes, special effects and what not. Even the acting was cardboard like and some of the lines were simplified/not updated.
The truth of the matter is, most of approved filipino scripts, no matter how good they might be written initially, get dumbbed down for mainstream consumption. They underestimate the taong masa mentality para lang kumita. Which is the sad truth about the Philippine movie industry.
If the Bonifacio project was given to passionate, smart and talented people like Jerrold Tarrog and his team (and there are many capable Filipinos like them I assure you), I'm pretty sure with the same budget Bonifacio had, would've been executed better and would have been the same hit.

John Arcilla is the best actor to ever portray Heneral Luna. No other actors can be cast as Heneral Luna ever! Actors that will be cast in the future Heneral Luna movies will never ever top him.

yung mga pelikulang ginawa nila yung nagpamulat talaga sa'kin (at ng marami) about sa filipino history. I only heard Heneral Luna once before. Nung elementary pa ako ata (actually dapat sana sa highschool tinuturo pa rin yan dahil masyado pa kaming bata nun para maintindihan kung sino talaga sila) but this movie was an eye opener to a teenager like me. People like Heneral Luna should be known all through out the country and that's what this movie actually did and I'm just so happy. This helped a lot of students especially me. I hope they will also be the one to make the adaption of I love you since 1892 too. I know this just came from wattpad but it also opened the eyes of a lot of us na halos nabubuhay nalng sa internet and such.
Nung una tinatamad pa ako panuorin ito sa sine. Walang pake, ganon. Pero nung nakita ko na sa TH-cam yung full movie, na amazed ako! Ang galing ni John Arcilla. Pinanuod ko din ang interviews. Ibang iba sya sa ugali nya sa movie. Wow. Ang galing nila lahat. Alam nyo? Ito dapat ang pinapalabas sa sinehan hindi ang katulad nang "My Bebe Love", "My Little Bossing". Ano matutunan namin dun? Buti pa kung ipapalabas eh yung historical at tungkol sa mga bayani. Para maalala natin ang nangyayari sa unang panahon. Itong movie na 'to may aral. Eh yung mga pinapalabas ngayon? Psh. Mr. Tarog, I saw your film today and would really like to see it again. We were quite engaged, we (and others around us) went through all the emotions, we left controlling tears and rushing to the nearest bookstore for more about Hen. Luna (there was nothing). We loved everything about it. The cast (John Arcilla carried this film! Nonie Buencamino, great! everyone else too), production design, screenplay..the music... This film is just very tight. So very well-made. People around us applauded. Bravo!
Jkhvo I've seen it 4 times already and still hindi pa ako nagsawa but the more i grasp what the movie is trying to imply sa sangbayanang pilipino..and that is - ang mas malaki nating kaaway ay walang iba kundi ang mga sarili natin. We have to CHANGE for ourselves and for the country. Also I agree with derik jerrold that john arcilla was an instinctual actor, that scene where bing pimentel as the mother sits him down at the start of that one shot monologue, John's rounded eyes perfectly conveyed the respect, love,and fondness one naturally give to a mother.. Perfect. How did he do that?! I think it's instinctual acting. Superb!

Ito yung movies na pinanuod ko talaga ng paulit ulit. Napaka ganda. Salute sa lahat ng actors at Director at staff. More na ganitong Movies Sir.

Yung sinabi niya na naka detalye lahat? Anong pinagsasabi mo direct? Sobrang detalye kaya!! Napaka detalye simula sa pag pili ng mga gumanap, mga artista, mula sa mga gamit, setting ng lugar, costume, background music, script lines, etc... Lahat yun puro at naka detalye. Ito lang ang first Philippine historical movie na lahat planado at pinag isipan. Yung makikita mo ng dugo at pawis na pinag hirapan sa lahat ng bumuo nito. Talaga na pa mangha ako sa with this beautifully made work of art. Ang huhusay ng mga taong nasa likod nito. Sana mas dadami pang manggagawa na katulad niyo. Saludong saludo ako.
This is truly beautiful! At the end of the film, when Heneral Luna was having his monologue, I was captured of the words spoken as if he was telling it today. Suddenly tears from my eyes. Even today, personal ambitions triumphs over patriotism. I agree with the director, its the tragedy that is gets to you. I have encountered "panghihinayang" too often in our history.

I would really much appreciate that history is being made into a movie like this. This the only time when I watched the movie that I knew what really happened to General Luna coz we did not discuss this during philippine history in my school days. I loved how they made the movie. It's awesome.
