I like seeing the PBS Digital presenters have a sleepover, it'd be fun to see it more often (doesnt have to be a sleepover)! but really perfect for this spooky season!
Underrated Sleepover Sequence in a movie has to be ‘Addams Family Values’ where Wednesday Addams takes over the relatively PG Ghost Storytelling Session.
Telling ghost stories at parties was apparently popular during the Edo period in Japan. But it was supposedly started by samurai as a test of bravery. It was called Hyakumonogatari Kaidankai, because they would tell 100 ghost stories in a night. That sounds like a loooooong night.
The ao andon ritual was always an interesting version of storytelling. Doesn't have to be long stories, but 100 scary tales of every length, as long as 100 candles go out
@@barkingmonkee more of a stretch of imagination to hit at least 99 and lie about the 100th. Which the rumor of the blue ghost is one such story in the lineup

Yes, but is that intentional? Some claim it is, but there's no proof of that, it could just be a coincidence, especially since there's no reason that would be the name, any connection between its function and the word "yes" or those two specific words.
@@I.____.....__...__Your skepticism is warranted. That story is popular but ultimately a common misconception of the origins of the name. Muscle memory & blood flow can have a ghostly feeling. Push out in a doorway then walk away from the door & yours arms rise. Hold a person a few inches from the ground suspended by holding their arms. Let them "sink" into the floor & they'll feel the flow of the carpet surround them as if melting into the floor.
Very informative. I'd like to have been a fly on the wall at a sleepover with so many doctors. Maybe look into scouting rituals like the dreaded snipe hunt.
2:46 disappointed to see Monstrum moving to Midjourney images, especially without mentioning/disclosing it in the credits. I respect the work a lot and I prefer the illustrations from older episodes.

well, ouija board is kinda fucked up if you play it on a place that's haunted or you never realised it before then after the ouija board fun, the house turns fun by itself. cupboard door open and slams by itself, garage door gets knocks like someone is stuck on the other side and wanting to be let in. yeah, it is fun when you play it not at your house. so beware, believe it or not as it is my personal experience. fortunately the one that get haunted is not my home. stay chill n cheers
I'm a practicing witch, but ironically I've never done any of these games or little silly rituals. I remember once when I was a kid that my mom was going to host a Halloween seance for a bit of fun, but my goodness, some of the family members freaked out. You could tell it was just after the Satanic Panic.
I find it ironic both that you never played these games and that I was introduced to them at a sleepover in church. My parents, both very religious, only trusted events sponsored by the church.

In a darkened room, lit only by a single small candle, set far away from the lone mirror, I repeated once times three, to bring the spirit to me, "Beetlejuice, BEEtlejuice, BEETLEJUICE!". Nothing happened. Disappointed, I went to bed, only to be beset by a tortured sleep, visions of the mirror and flickering candle flame wafting in and out of my dreams. In the darkest dark of night, I awoke to a strange sensation, something in the bed with me, the glass on the bed table shattered on the floor. And all over myself was the ancient forbidden spirit, Beetlejuice.

It was through a Ouija board at a sleepover in the late 90s that I found out one of my friends was adopted. Actually, no one present knew. She wasn’t touching the planchette when it spelled out her birth mother’s name, which wasn’t a very common name. To this day, I can’t explain that. (And what a way to tell your friends you’re adopted.) We messed around with the board at a few more sleepovers before my friend who owned the board got too creeped out by it and burned it in her fireplace.
Beginning in the 1990s, commentators wrote about perceived new trend of parents endorsing sleepovers for teenagers, with both boys and girls staying overnight together. While some writers decried the trend, others defended it as a safer alternative to teenage dating outside the house.
While I understand parents being worried with everything that might happen to their kids when they are not present, today's over-protectionism will create very "childish" and dumb adults that did not explore the world around them at the correct age.
