My wife makes this for herself several times a year and loves it. It makes her very happy and I like her to be happy. Thank you for sharing this video with us. Have a great day.
My Mom made these in the '70's and '80's. I still buy them for "Pizza Thursday", and will continue as long as they are around. You can buy the cans of sauce separately, as well.
This is the only pizza we had as kids. Mom put hamburger and mushrooms on it. It was a Friday night treat! A pizza king came to our town in the 1970s, but we still had boxed pizza most of the time.😊
I used to eat those as a kid all of the time. My mom always doctored them up with mozzarella and sometimes pepperoni. I remember the sauce being really great. We also used to make little individual pizzas with Thomas' English Muffins, pizza sauce, mozzarella and whatever toppings each kid wanted to add.
Wow! That came out in the year of my birth. In the winter, I'd make that on weekends. It helped to add heat to our home, and my daughter's were little at the time, and they called it "daddy pizza." Even today, they still do.😂
I have never seen one of those pizza kits. I remember my Dad making pizza from scratch, including the dough and pizza sauce, that was an all day project, but it was friggen out of this World pizza!
I have not had a Chef Boyardee pizza since I was a kid! This video brings back a lot of good memories. I gotta get a kit! I would love to see more cooking videos! Thanks!!
This is the first "Poor Man's Cookbook" episode I've seen. I like how what you are presenting has obtainable results. Your process is grounded in reality and looks like what I would expect to see if I were to try.
Hmmm....I'm going to try and find a way to adapt your recipe to make it work in a Dutch oven so we can make these on our Boy Scout campouts. This would be a big hit with the troop
Oh man, they would love it! Cooking meals in scouts was always such a fun time. Trying out new stuff, and trying to make it all work in the rough. Enjoy it my friend!
The buttering the pans trick was the best!! Thanks for sharing. We used to have this all the time growing up. My Dad mentioned it a few times lately, I didn't think they made the kits anymore, then I stumbled across them in Walmart and picked up a couple. Good thing I watched a couple videos because I didn't realize they didn't include any toppings anymore.
Yeah I used to work for a pizza place. Still friendly with the owner...I get the ingredients to make a whole pie for $5..I do not need to spend extra $ on cheese. And its delicious
Best & sharpest pizza cutter I've ever bought was from Walmart with a black plastic handle. Still perfect after a couple years,, still sharp as hell & tight. Hasn't loosened at all. Highly recommend
I swear the smoke detectors always go off when broiler is used. 😂. When we use that feature at home we put a fan aimed at the ceiling to circulate the heat. Lol 😂. Fun video again. Watched all the way through. 73
It was so funny. I'm cooking and I hear my wife's car pulling up the drive and pow, the alarm goes off right as she's walking up the steps. She was laughing so hard and made me promise to leave it in.
Hi Erik and Jen. While I enjoy all of your video here and on Far Point Farms Restorations, it was the Yugo and the Poor Man's Cookbook videos that made me hit the 'subscribe' button! This was great. The pizza are gorgeous. I would love to see more cooking videos from you BOTH. Happy 4th of July! Be safe.
@FarpointFarms I am going to the grocery store in around 45 minutes and I am going to look for it then. We love making homemade strombolis using refrigerated or frozen bread dough so this will probably be a hit with everyone here. Sometimes in place of butter I use bacon grease on the pans. It gives it a good smokey flavor, and it doesn't brown like butter can, although I like browned butter too. Bacon and ranch dressing can make tastey pizza toppings also.
We (my wife and I) have always used "Boboli Pizza" on a Wendsday by using the "leftover" Taco Meat from Tuesday along with some crushed "Spicy Nacho Dorito chips" topped with some shredded lettuce for Taco Pizza! There is NEVER leftovers...
Dude ,I tried the bowl in sink trick today. Nice. Great tip. I as well choose this over others. Plus the time with family making it gives me brownie points.
I have literally been making these pizzas since I was about 11 or 12 years old. That's 37 years, and I am still buying them. My mom used to buy them, and me and my brother would make them when we got home from school in the afternoon. They still are good pizza mixes. I really like the pepperoni mixes. Chef Boyardee did away with including the Parmesan cheese in the mixes about 10 years ago, probably to say money. No worries, as you can always buy the Parmesan cheese.
I make one huge sheet pan square pizza from one kit. I add the usual, mozzarella cheese, pepperoni and Sprinkle Italian seasoning, garlic powder and onion powder and it comes out delicious!! Paid $4.65 for the kit at my local grocerr with the cheese and pepperoni comes out under $10 .
This is the first time I have ever seen this kit by Chef Boyardee I definitely would like to try it . I grew up in an Italian neighborhood in Brooklyn so I guess maybe that's why it wasn't available in my neighborhood
I don't recall ever even having a frozen pizza in the 60's or 70's it was always the Boyardee boxed pizza. I'm going to save a lot tomorrow to get a few of these.
Cooking your own pizza is much more cost efficient then buying a prepared pizza. Prices of everything are still ludicrous either way. The food looked great! Thanks for sharing, Erik and Jen!
Thank you- you are right, the last time my wife picked up a pizza from a restaurant- we could have bought 4-5 of these kits. It was good, but maybe not that good
Thanks Eric. I enjoy this part of the channel. Which I remember Jennifer doing some homemade cooking videos as well. I think cooking videos is something we all can relate to. (We all need to eat). Also think some fella’s out there struggle in the kitchen. So maybe this kind of info helps them out. Wouldn’t mind seeing some of your family favorite recipes in the future. Either way thanks. I don’t think I’ve seen this product up by me. But I’ll definitely look and see and try your method. 73, and congratulations on all your new projects and accomplishments.
I once put bologna, American cheese, onion and yellow mustard on the pizza. Didn’t have any “real” pizza stuff. It was one of the best pizzas ever, in my 10 year old mind!
I didn't know the Chef Boyardee pizza kit was still sold. When I was growing up these were the only pizza we got. Mom always made hamburger - mushroom pizza. Restaurants were, and are, just too expensive.
In the late 60s I was in Boston attending trade school, living with student room mates and working to pay expenses. To save on food expense now and then I bought this pizza mix in a variety store for I believe around 65 cents, and you are right on the sauce being VERY good. It’s been about 5 decades since I made my last one, and I have seen it in my local Food Lion here in N.C. . After watching your vid it looks like I am going to relive my past and buy this along with the extras.
Manga Bono ! I can remember those pizza's and many other meals from Chef B' , good times and memories . If you want a good source for "poor man's " cook book , find a cook book from a rural church , lots of good ideas hidden in those pages .
These have been around a lot longer than you think, as my folks were making them when I was a kid in the '50s. We didn't have much either, so no chips and sodas, it was Kool-Aid to drink and make into frozen pops. Halloween was a big deal back then as kids didn't have the unlimited candy they have today. We played outside until it was dark and had a blast. Wish I could go back.
I hear you and feel you 100% If it wasn't pouring rain, I was out after breakfast and in at dusk. I built a lot of forts, dug a lot of holes just because, and rode 1000's of miles on my bike *with no helmet*. Somehow I survived off of garden hose water, and all our meals were homemade so I never had fast food until I was 12. We didn't miss out on anything my friend!
@@FarpointFarms Amen brother, and now that I think about it, what was it with us boys and digging? I usually buy the pepperoni chef Boyardee pizza kit. I always add extra pepperoni plus mozzarella and grated cheese. The sauce is so good that I end up buying extra cans of the sauce which I get from the grocery store.

This makes me happy to hear, this is such a great kit. I know the waiting the 20 minutes on the dough makes it lighter. I love a add more stuff to it to make it more like a pizza joint.

we had this pizza all the time! loved it!!! first time was when i was 15 and im 65 . Im gonna get it again!

I was sitting down to eat my Chef Boyardee pizza and found this video. My childhood and early teen years were awesome because of this pizzza.
We tend to make there more- A cheap red barron pizza is now almost $10- This kit is about $4 and makes 2
