Regardless of which veteran character was more important for the fans to return, the fact that Pichu is shown right after Snake is a direct message from Sakurai after the initial stun "Everyone is here!" "Everyone???" "Yes!!! Everyone!!!"

Haven't played Smash since Melee back when i was a kid and i don't have big feelings for it but i low key cried when i saw all these people so happy that one of their favorite games is now fully realized. Much love to all the Smash fans out there
