In highschool I wanted a les paul but couldn’t afford it, so I ended up spending every penny I saved on a custom Carvin CS6 instead. Single best purchase I ever made. With all the options I got (flamed Koa top, gold hardware, abalone inlays, etc) a custom les Paul with similar specs would have cost $5k easily. Carvin/kiesel built me my dream guitar for about $2200. When it comes to custom shop guitars, no one has better bang-for-your-buck than kiesel

Take some DI’s and really do a deep dive with an EQ on which one sounds better on the di. Keep the one that sounds best, even if its a little bit. Or keep the one that you can play better on, the fret size might make me keep the red girl. But thats me 🤙

I have Carvin (Keisel) DC 600 that I bought from their "guitars in stock". I call it my Strat Paul. Mahogany body, maple neck, ebony fingerboard with ss frets, and a Wilkinson tremolo. It's neck through. Plays incredible and built to perfection.
I dropped some Dunable P90 humbuckers into it as it never really grabbed me with its tone. After the pickup change, it became a different guitar. It really brightened up and sounds much more airy now. It's my 3rd guitar behind a Tele and a Les Paul, but it's a great guitar and I wouldn't part with it now.

I bought a Kiesel Vader 7 on Reverb. It was exactly what I wanted... just by chance. The other guy had it custom built and by the time he got it, he had something else already and just flipped it to try and get most of his money back. I bought a used Kiesel Osiris Fretless five string bass off of Reverb.
Bought a used Carvin LB75 with LB90 electronic layout off of Reverb a few months prior.
For the Osiris bass, it's my first bolt on in over thirty years. And my first Kiesel.
Fretless basses get my attention rather easy.
Put the order in after negotiation of the price.
    I got a great deal.
Three piece maple neck with a walnut stripe.
    Standard alder body.
Hard as nails fingerboard. (No lines or dots)
Split pickup in front, single coil soapbar in the rear.
    Active-passive electronics (volume-pan-bass-mid-mid sweep-treble).
    Full 18 volt power package.
Operates in passive electronic mode in case of battery failure (it sounds cool in the passive mode as well).
Lightweight, very balanced. Tunes very easy.
    And it plays great!
A lot of growl, but keeps its own personality.
Played great right out of the box.
May upgrade the electronics to EMGs. I like those in my fretless basses.
    Other than that, no complaints.
Just have to get used to the string changes. Not that I do them everyday, but the time will come.

I just found this video by searching for Kiesel guitars, as one does. I just ordered a Zeus that looks nearly identical to the red one. Trans crimson red, one piece swamp ash body, five piece maple and walnut laminated neck. I did get a gloss finish instead of raw tone, and also Beryllium pickups instead of the Lithiums because I haven't heard them in person and I think the Berylliums will be the safer (but maybe more boring?) choice. Really looking forward to October now! Or November. Whatever. Cheers!

I've contacted Kiesel with the serial to find out what year it is, pickups, woods.. This guitar is killer, and I personally think it's miles better than any Strandberg (I've owned and sold 4 of them). Mainly because I like the heftier weight and straight frets. Get the red one. You're playing definitely sounds better on the red one. But of course by the time that I am posting this remark you've already probably made your decision. I hope it was the red one. The blue one definitely looks better but I've never chosen a guitar based on looks. Playability first, and then tone. You can always change pickups to change the sound but great playability is a tough nut to crack.

..But then I heard the other one. Dude, the aqua one sounds way better! They both sound good, but the aqua one sounds special. Really...it makes a no contest..🤨
It's aqua for the win....and I love the red one. Everything about it is what I would choose....but the aqua ones got the tones, so....you gotta give it to the tone - that should be number priority.

How is the tuning stability compared to a Floyd? Cuz I'm getting kinda sick of dealing with Floyd...changing strings, tuning, etc. I love the look and sound of those guitars, but wondering about fixed bridge vs trem. I have a Charvel and a LP-type and I prefer the feel and tone of the LP with the fixed bridge and tailpiece. I like using a trem now and then, but the tradeoff in tuning stability and just being a pain to deal with just aren't worth it. So if I end up going with a Kiesel...I need to figure that out. Which Kiesel is most like a PRS Custom 22 or 24?

    • @jimmyfranklin
      @jimmyfranklin  3 ปีที่แล้ว

The tuning stability is amazing compared to a Floyd. Floyd’s are great but can also be inconvenient to lock and unlock. This never has to be locked and unlocked with the headless guitars. ALSO major element of tuning stability with headless guitars is that there are less points of friction. No tuning pegs, string trees, or break angle to deal with over the nut. So that’s a major factor in how well headless guitars IN GENERAL stay in tune. The kiesel options MOST LIKE a PRS are the C6 and CT6. Neither of those come in a headless option however. So I can’t comment on their tuning stability. But they do use a hipshot trem and Hipshot makes wonderful stuff.
