I grew up to this. My father used to love his music loud. My parents fell in love because of their shared interest in music. Jazz was big with that generation's music. I remember how much it meant to them. Dance and jazz.
May it be so once again .. although I don’t remember hearing it around our house, I know this music was of their sensibilities. I’ve grown so enamoured of this style over the decades, I’m finally getting around 2 studying it .. dream of being a Freddie Green type 🎸🎶🎵
This is my favourite album and Have a Nice Day is my absolutely number one tune. Basie playing piano proves that often less is more. I've had this album for well over 40 years. There is a paper coaster attached to it with Basie's autograph. I got it when Basie band was playing at Crossroads in Moira, NY.
hI ERIC For starters listen to ( ! ) The Sound Of Jazz ( this Album is choker block with talent ) ( 2 ) 16 Men Swinging (3 ) Count Plays Duke (4) Basie Picks The Winners ( 5 ) Farmers Market Barbecue Cheers Jed '
Count Basie is one of Jahovah's wonderful creations! 🔥🔥🔥💕💓 Believe 👉 1 Cor 15:1-4 and be saved. Count Basie Will perform in the 'Theatre of the Stars' in Heaven. 👍🔥💕💓 Be there or stay here...your choice! Oh...yes and Have a Nice Day! Hebrews 12:14 (KJV) “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:”
Thank you for posting. Have a Nice Day has always been one of my favorite albums. The Basie sound coupled with Nestico’s arranging is fantastic. I always enjoyed the mix with plenty of a strong trumpet section, trombones in support, clean sax section with the bari sax as an anchor and Harold Jones’ drumming is perfect for the style. Nestico really captured that cool jazz sound of the time by employing the flutes and muted trumpets. Thanks again.
This is a brilliant album in so many ways, Sammy Nestico's charts perhaps being top among them. But I want to specifically call out the flawless and thoroughly enjoyable drumming of the award-winning Harold Jones on each and every tune! He brings the band to an entirely different level of artisty. If you haven't noticed this, I recommend you relisten and focus your ears on the drums! His fills leading into the downbeat of the next measure with the band reacting on either the "and" of said downbeat, or right on top of beat two, are classic big band techniques that Jones is a world-class master of! (for example, this happens repeatedly during the awesome climax of the title song, starting around 2:00 up to around 2:30). We can also thank Nestico for leaving beat one open for the drummer to do just this trick on so many of these charts - again, especially in the title tune) OK, he also leaves beat one open for Basie to do his thing (plunking a single note on the keyboard on beat one that the rest of the band has a rest on... but on this album he smartly allows Jones to take most of those downbeat kicks). I've had this album since ~'76 and it still packs quite a punch all these decades later! Great stuff!
Totally agree. Jones would set it up so there was no choice but to put it where it should go when you came in. One of my favorites. Dennis Mackrel w/ the Basie Orchestra on I Just Found Out About Love reminds me so much of Jones. Lays it down.
Have been looking for this... for about as long as internet exist...;-).... excellent quality by the way...Thanx a lot... Just by listening to this... it really made my day....:-)))
What a great time period for the feel of this band. The line-up and arrangements were a great match. You could look at the arrangements as simplistic, but it’s the space and room given to the band that allowed these tunes to swing so hard. It’s too bad that the watered down high school arrangements would cause this and Basie Straight Ahead to be pushed to the back of Basie’s albums due to over-saturation. They still deserve to be up towards the front to showcase what “feel” is. So in the pocket… Jones & Freddie. So on it. Can’t forget Sonny Cohn… such a strong lead with feel for days. Also, kinda funny when people say “we played that in high school”. No… no you didn’t. They were rewritten… like putting hazelnut creamer in first rate coffee or having a great scotch on the rocks. Not the same. The other one is “we played Tiger of San Pedro in high school.” No… no you didn’t.
Done right around the time of the Bing n Basie album also on Daybreak. Here's the vocal version of the title track: th-cam.com/video/Wb44PD0ZLoA/w-d-xo.html
This album is lightweight stuff and certainly beneath Basie's capabilities. I think I'll go get my jazz battery recharged with some '30's & 40's Basie.
This album is less than what I am used to also but not terrible. I do like his 40's and 50's eras the best though. This original album/LP still sounds sweet on my Paradigm Mini Monitor speakers no doubt.

Hi Anakin. I've got the LP but I would like to get de CD. Do you know if and where the CD is available?
The best band of the galaxy
Wonderful. The incomparable Count; and the Orchestra continues to keep his music alive.

Erick, thank you so much. We can see and feel the great respect you have for this wonderful music and these genius musicians.

💯 flute work! Uncredited, apparently

Yes you are right, but don't forget that simple rhythm - machine called Freddie Green!
with the great Harold Jones on drums !!
The one and only Harold Jones : such a wonderful musician !!
Gérard DEL GRANDE Agree completely. How are things Gérard? Cheers!
Harold Jones! Unsung, perhaps.
The two best Basie drummers were 1) Harold Jones and 2) Sonny Payne, the others don't even come close (possible exception pre WW II Jo Jones)!
@@saxophonenut Uhmm, Butch Miles? Rufus Speedy Jones? At least two others that came more than close, with due respect to Harold
Now that ladies and gentlemen is how the swing gets swung!
audio quality is super great!!
Part of the xlnt audio quality is the instrument balance, imo.

Genial e inigualable Basie!!!
Aw man .. so smoooooth & hip👌
Thanks!!!
One thing I have to say: This album is simply so much fun! (Apart from the superb musicianship of this great band. Basie and the Duke are still "it").
Basie!!! Perfectamente Perfecto. Saludos.
